The final split for the Senate: 49/49/2, with 2 Democratic-leaning independents (one of which is Lieberman, who may harbor some obvious resentment) Effectively, the Democrats control the senate majority as well.

The real problem with melting sea ice is the surface albedo of sea ice compared to seawater... something like 90% to 10% respectively. Melting sea ice forms part of a feedback loop in this respect: the more sea ice melts, the more heat the seawater absorbs, and the more earth's albedo shifts
-
Absolutely not, and that was my point
-
Isn't shifting the burden of proof fun...

Are you unfamiliar with the concept of GIGO?
-
Well, that's one way of putting it. I like this one better: I leave it up to you to guess (or Google) who said that

The biggest problem is with glaciers

I guess you don't understand the basic principles of buoyancy, or that ice is less dense than water.

Pointless rant on the Pussification of the American Male

Yes, I certainly must look foolish arguing points compared to your "I don't have a point to argue, so I'll just construct a post full of insults" approach to argumentation. -
Psst, Senators have 6-year terms

As opposed to lying, cheating, rich hypocritical Republicans?

It's all down to Virginia and Montana for the Senate. Both are very close, and both may require a recount. Pretty interesting, because Virginia has been the site of some very, very dirty campaigning, reminiscient of Nixon-era "ratf*cking" A somewhat more reputable URL on the matter: http://www.americanchronicle.com/articles/viewArticle.asp?articleID=16105 Some URLs Pangloss won't like: http://www.dailykos.com/story/2006/11/6/1717/68014 http://thinkprogress.org/2006/11/07/voter-intimidation-virginia/

Talent conceeds! And Amendment 2 is currently on the up and up with 88% of precincts reporting. Hooray!

Just one question: have you ever looked at the scientific evidence used to estimate the age of the universe?
-
Some of them do. The ones in Nevada, made by casino equipment manufacturers, let you see a paper printout of your vote behind bulletproof glass, so you can confirm your vote was recorded properly but you cannot tamper with them. Unfortunately, most e-voting machines (i.e. Diebold, Sequoia) have no paper trails.

I'm certainly not "feminine" by any stretch of the imagination, but ParanoiA, it sounds like you're frustrated because your ideas about social norms are obsolete. Too bad for you. Society evolves and you're angry because it's leaving you behind. -
How can you know that without a paper trail?

It may not come down to surgery. Active devices which don't require being in direct contact with the brain may be developed. Yes, but I don't think it's a problem, just the natural outgrowth of the human condition. Yes, absolutely

Can you judge them in relation to a paper with similar circulation which lacks "insular stupidity" and has "objectivity in news reporting"? While the New York Post certainly has nowhere near their circulation, it certainly trumps them on "insular stupidity" and a lack of "objectivity in news reporting", but then again like Fox News it serves as a mouthpiece for Rupert Murdoch. Regardless, you certainly have disdain for the Gray Lady, Pangloss. What would you suggest as an alternative? (Disclaimer: I hate all newspapers. The Internet is the future. Newsprint is dead to me)

Yes, they've made several in Japan... LCDs with multiple layers. which appear 3D to the person viewing them. http://www.theregister.co.uk/2004/08/11/sharp_lcd/

Speak for yourself. I think the present trend brings us ever closer to Singularity, which I believe represents the ultimate moral good mankind can accomplish. If you're going to try communism you better be in it for the long haul. Parastrokia practically destroyed the Russian economy, and it's been in a long-term lull out of which it may never pull. I think in the types of situations you're describing, any means of pulling the country out of it are justifiable, however making the transition back to capitalism would be very much a painful one. The privitization of communally-owned capital. Somebody gets it. But how do you decide? Hell, I want a f*cking factory...

You get any farther on that yet?

"The more people" arguments all belie a massive, exponential increase in human population as science and technology allow us to sustain larger and larger populations. The number of people as a percentage of the total population is the telling network, and while that number may be millions, a few million as a percentage of the total population is less than 1%. I don't think you can temporarily suspend the rules of capitalism and expect capitalism to continue along present trends after you reinstate them. Capitalism is built out of an emergent network of interrelationships, and suspending the rules of capitalism shatters that structure.
