I don't know... under what authority did we snatch up foreign civilians in the first place?
-
Al Qaeda is a civilian organization. If you claim they are not, then by definition they are not terrorists; they're soldiers of a foreign military. I don't see how that changes the fact that these people are civilians and not part of a foreign military. While trying civilians in a military tribunal isn't unprecedented, most of the examples form a rather dark part of America's history.
-
Since there's no conclusive evidence they're working for a foreign military, wouldn't the logical place to start be a civilian trial, and if sufficient evidence is presented that they are, in fact, working directly for a foreign military or government, to change venue and hold a military tribunal?
-
I don't know, but to my knowledge none of them were ever hired by a foreign military. Am I wrong about that? Merged post follows: Consecutive posts mergedOn another note, I liked the Onion's take on these trials: U.S. Finally Gets Around To Prosecuting Mastermind Behind 9/11

If they are hired directly by a foreign military then yes, I'd say they qualify as soldiers. Does that apply to any of the individuals being tried in New York?
-
Perhaps let me restate my question then: do you recognize the IPCC's position that anthropogenic CO2 is the foremost radiative forcing affecting the climate system as a scientifically valid one?
-
A group of civilians receiving money under the table from a foreign government is still a group of civilians. It doesn't magically turn them into soldiers for no apparent reason, especially if they aren't even citizens of Iran.
-
That makes them part of Iran's military all of the sudden?
-
So they're civilians, not military. It also seems jackson33 was colluding the term "enemy combatant" into "military combatant".

Wow, that's a difficult question. Two of my favorites are definitely Neuromancer from William Gibson and Snow Crash by Neil Stephenson. My avatar happens to be the cover of Feersum Endjinn by Iain M. Banks (from which "bascule" is taken)

That's certainly a component of it. Solar output is unexpectedly low.
-
What nation's military are they a part of? If they're military combatants then by definition they cannot be "terrorists", right? They're enemy soldiers. I keep asking these questions and not getting a response. Terrorist = Civilian Military Combatant = Soldier of a Foreign Military Correct or not?

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/health/article6954603.ece Perhaps it's time to re-examine the US's sugar tariffs, which lead to widespread use of high fructose corn syrup (which is in turn bolstered by corn subsidies). Though this may seem strange to the rest of the world, it's quite difficult to locate products in the US which are sweetened with sugar. HFCS is ubiquitous as a sweetener.

Romandy is the only part of Switzerland I've ever been to, so perhaps I'm a little biased
-
Just noticed these posters are in French, et tu Romandy?
-
But wouldn't that only apply if they were civilians (i.e. "terrorists"), not soldiers of a foreign military acting at their behest?
-
Yes, however the adverse effects of land use manifest themselves in the form of climate change. They provide yet another anthropogenic radiative forcing (i.e. changes to surface albedo)
-
What do you think is the biggest man-made environmental problem? What do you think about water vulnerability as it relates to climate change?

Well there we have it. Quantum physics is a lie designed to fit the political agenda of the UN so the scientific conspiracy can secure international funding for BS projects like LHC. Quantum physicists don't have a clue what they're actually talking about. They intentionally fabricate data so they can continue to secure grants and push their own agendas. I'm just glad you're one of the few who can come out and admit it.

Medicare is not a sustainable system and will need reform very soon in the coming years or the costs of the program are going to skyrocket. I say this as a bleeding heart liberal.

This drives me nuts, but it's a systemic problem throughout journalists in general. TARP and the Recovery Act are referred to as "the bailouts" everywhere, even though that makes about as much sense as "the Internets"

As someone working on Internet video distribution, I find the locked-in geographical rights mentality appalling. Rest assured this is a feature I will fight against tooth and nail in any distribution system I design. And as a bizarre turn of events, I work for a Swiss company, and cannot send them this video due to the geographical restrictions.

Well as you are not an atmospheric scientist, can you actually claim authority beyond your personal beliefs regarding perhaps the most complex dynamical system that science has ever attempted to study? Or are you, like myself, an atmospheric science layman? I don't think it's the "biggest problem facing humanity" either. I'm also curious who in these forums are making that claim. AIDS, cancer, these are far bigger concerns than global warming. However as humans we can address multiple problems simultaneously. As an aside: I find your ad hominems regarding belief/religiosity for climate science rather out of place. I am curious how you would feel if I said the standard model is a lie to hide the truth that the balance of forces in this universe, which can all be reduced to Qi/Chi, should be based around the structure of the Platonic Solids. Why do you religiously defend your belief in the standard model?
