When their bias extends to organizing and promoting anti-Democrat protests, making them effectively a political action committee no different from MoveOn.org, they cease to be a news organization. I feel like I keep repeating the fact that Fox News is organizing anti-government protests but the people defending Fox keep ignoring that and complaining people don't treat them like a news organization because they're conservative. If those of you defending Fox can at least acknowledge that they're organizing politically-oriented events like the 9.12 Protests, that'd be swell. It's a lot different covering protests when your employees thought of them, picked the date and created the encompassing "project", then used your mass medium to tell everyone to be there. At that point you're not covering the news, you're creating the news, and at that point you cease to be a news organization.

After another warm weekend, it's snowing again

The article does not ever state that children waiting across the street for the bus saw him naked.

Depends where you live. If they're trespassing, I have absolutely no sympathy.

I think you're missing the point of the Constitution there guy. It's a free country. Anything which isn't explicitly against the law we're allowed to do. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tenth_Amendment_to_the_United_States_Constitution I like walking around the house naked. That's freedom

Their public statement on the matter is that they don't think Fox News is a news organization, they think it's a political organization. News agencies report the news. They don't make the news. Fox News is a pro-Republican TV channel which has orchestrated multiple anti-Democratic protests. That's not a news channel. It's a political organization. It's no different from MoveOn.org having their own TV channel. If nothing I've said illustrates to you why Fox News isn't a news channel, it's either because of your own bias or because you aren't paying enough attention. Is this something you think a news organization should be behind: http://www.the912project.com/

C++ is not a proper superset of C (in the way Objective C is, for example). There are valid C programs which are not valid C++. For example, in C, you can typedef a struct and give both the same name. This isn't valid C++, since in C++ a struct is just a class with everything public by default. The dangerous semantics of C involve pointers. C has an inherently unsafe memory model. Subtle errors, buffer overruns, miscalculated pointer arithmetic, etc can corrupt your program's memory and lead to nondeterministic behavior.

I think you're missing the point here. Do you know about the 9.12 Project? http://www.the912project.com/ Fox News isn't just covering the protests. They aren't just saying good things about them. They're saying "we're organizing a protest. Show up to Washington on 9/12 and protest the government" Did CNN ever orchestrate an "Impeach Bush" rally and tell the protesters when and where to show up?

I believe there's a "normal" range for the ratio of body size versus brain volume. Smaller animals need smaller brains because they have smaller bodies. That said, animals high brain volume-to-body size ratio are typically more intelligent. Humans and dolphins are two examples.

You can find many examples of CNN, ABC News, MSNBC, etc organizing and promoting anti-government protests in Washington?

Haha wow I just reread this thread again, and marveled at my own carefully worded optimism that Franken might be seated, but.. wow! This is awesome in retrospect. Especially reading my own incorrectly-worded thread title. Yes everyone, I was wrong, the Democrats have 60 seats now, hooray!

padren is right though, their reach is voluntary, not just because they have a better distribution infrastructure. Fox's key demo is geriatrics sitting around either at home or in nursing homes, with nothing better to watch but Fox News. They don't usually win out among viewers aged 25 to 54, despite the fact that their ratings otherwise are disproportionately huge. Why do they win out if they aren't popular in the 25 to 54 demographic? Because Fox News appeals to old people who have nothing better to do but sit around and watch TV all day, and this gives it disproportionately high ratings. Young people have better things to do with their lives than to sit around and watch TV.

Formal spec can mean a lot of things. It almost sounds like you want a C++ model checker: http://www.cprover.org/cbmc/ Aside from that, you cannot formally specify C++ programs, because C++ is a quasi-superset of C, and C has "dangerous" semantics. Perhaps if your program used a subset of C++ which involved no pointers and used references exclusively you could formally specify it. Is this for a class?

On the contrary, I would say we would certainly see everything 10x faster

Video lectures on computer science and engineering
bascule replied to seouldavid's topic in Computer Science
Well, that said, I can't help but link to what I think are the greatest source of video lectures on computer programming: The Sussman/Abelson SICP lectures While this course is intended for freshmen, I wouldn't recommend it for beginners. If you are a well seasoned imperative programmer who's wondering what all this functional stuff is about, these are a great series of lectures I would love for you to watch. -
I didn't see this until now. WTF? Perhaps you'd care to opine as to why Fox "News" should be considered a news network in this thread. Regular viewers of Bill O'Reilly might catch the reference to his program in the preceding statement. I honestly wonder if you do.

For the record, this is retarded

There's also their recurring problem with mislabeling misbehaving Republicans as Democrats

Yes, the same goes for nanotechnology -
Perhaps it'd be helpful to review what the White House actually said: http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/10/12/white-house-escalates-war-words-fox-news/

There's nothing wrong with that, but if they're an organization that promotes anti-government protests do you have an issue with the president refusing them interviews as if they were a news organization?

I think this is really central to the debate surrounding Fox News. Several people are suggesting that there is no need to distinguish Fox News from other TV news organizations like ABC News, MSNBC, CNN, etc. Members of ABC News, for example, have argued that Fox News should be considered a news organization and given the same access to the White House as any other news organization. Others think Fox News cannot be considered a news organization. What do you think?
-
I think what you're missing is they're not a news channel, even if they refer to themselves as one. Fox is actively organizing and promoting anti-government protests. This is not a function an impartial news organization should be performing.

The brain is a physical system, and we can make models of physical systems. So long as the model effectively reproduces the behavior of the physical system they should have the same properties.
