  1. maybe im wrong actually, 3C2 is not 6 LOL
  2. Hello everyone I had a thought of 3 rose problem (red violet and yellow), what is the combinations possible? initially what I did was 3C3 (combinations operation) but it didnt work is the correct solution 3C1 + 3C2 + 3C3? becuz when I gave it a thought, possiblities were: 1) 3 redundant roses (3 red or 3 yellow or 3 Violet): TOtal of 3 choices 2) 2 redundant roses and one not: Total of 6 choices (2 red 1 Violet 2 red 1 yellow 2 Violet 1 red 2 violet 1 yellow 2 yellow 1 red 2 yellow 1 violet) 3) 1 choice of 3 different colours (1 red 1 yellwo 1 violet) have I solved it the shortest way? do I have to do it like 3C1 + 3C2 + 3C3? or is there shorter path? thanks!
  3. LOL I thought of that, but that means I am not going to do my job properly if I am reading xD or am I wrong?
  4. This is not what I mean. I meant a job in which I can read whatever I want. as proof reader someone would select the material I read. What I had in mind was a job that is not too intensive and that is not a field job that requires you to stay for certain time of the day but does not necessarily keep you busy all of that period, if you know what I mean. Lets say, something like internet chat helper for the internet company/or for the bank. You might not need to be at service all the time, but rather only when someone comes to the website and needs help. This might not be the perfect example (as I have not tried that job and it could be very intensive) though.
  5. Hello guys, Not sure which forum is best to post this, but I have a question in mind: as a student, what would be the best job in which you can read book? not necessarily study, but reading is enough. what do you think? intuitively I thought of working for uni library, but what would be needed in there? its either putting back books to the shelves or being in the IT team for trouble shooting, which doesnt fit lol I havent tried working at uni lib though, so I cant judge
  6. Hello guys, If we have a flow with Temperature distribution. There is a hot object around which there is flow. to find if the flow is laminar or turbulent, should we consider an average viscosity or should we consider the viscosity around the object? I feel it is safer to assume the lowest viscosity because it can tell us if the flow around the object is laminar or turbulent. what do you think? should this be done? does the low temperature away from the object matter? (lets say viscosity is 10^-3 away from the object and 4X10^-4 neaer the hot object)
  7. yea xD Lets move this problem to the next level Lets say we are writing name consisting of 3 letters, XXX and lets say we can only use Red or Blue colour, we will mainly use Blue, but sometimes red here are the chances/restrictions 25% Red, 75% Blue, If First letter (capital letter) was Red, the next 2 letters are Blue If one of the small letters is Red, the capital letter of next name is Blue So we can end up with something like RBB BBB BBR BBB BBR BRB BBB BBR BBR BRB BRB BBB BRB BBR BRB BRB BBB etc etc or something like this How would we break this down? I am having trouble because this is becoming sort of a loop where I cant end it :| Edit, actually it is starting to make sense. I have done a bit of math, I will post it later when I have time, It is generally consist of finding blocks used to construct series, and that one of the blocks is recursively defined Block 1 RBB Block 2 ... Bbb anything that ends with BBB but doesnt start with RBB it could be BRB BBB BRB BBR BBB BBR BBR BBB etc etc actually not exactly if the restriction is 2 W after any B, or N W after any B the general solution will be [latex]\frac{p}{N p+1}[/latex]
  8. intuitively? *_* yea I think i kind of get it. here is my thought every B W is followed by ither B or W half of them will be will be B W W the other half will be B W B and every W will be folowed by B or W so half will be W W and half will be W B all of the elemst we have now are 6 X W + 3 B is that the solution? did I get it correctly? there is one confusing part is that the elemnt W B cannot be followed by BWW nor by BWB :S so I am not sure my solution is absolutely correct, will this not have side effect? what I meant is "what is the ratio we are getting closer and closer to but not quite" so yes almost EDIT: actually never mind, i think i get it we dont have a B element, we only have a BW element. Chance of BW = Chance of W so BW W BW W BW W W BW something like this, such that the chance of BW = chance of W I get it, thanks! Number of B = 0.5, Number of W = 0.5 (from BW) + 0.5 (from W element)=1.0 Ratio B = 0.5/1.5 = 1/3 Ive done the math xD Thanks mate EDIT: about the 25% so basically we do the same logic as previous one? every W followed by either BW or W W BW W W and every BW is followed by either BW or by W Chance of BW = 25%, chance of W = 75% Total Number of W = 100, Number of B = 25 ratio B = 25/125 = 1/5 = 20% Problem Solved! Thanks xD For the last case, it will be 2 elements B W W and W so it will B/Total = 25/150 = 1/6 = 16.6%
  9. Hello will the solution be different if we choose the people all together or 1 by 1? I think it wouldnt
  10. Hello guys, I created problem that I couldnt solve: lets say we have WHITE OR BLACK balls are randomly put in series (or line, or queue). when we put them, chance will be 50% white or 50% black ball will be put. However, we cannot put 2 black balls consecutively, we can only put 2 white consecutively so, if we tried this 4 times putting 2 in series, we will end up with 4 probabilities W W W B B W B B but forth one will be ommitted and reduce to B W because we restricted that no 2 consecutive black balls, so we will end up with W W W B B W B W The problem is, if we keep putting balls following these rules, how much will be ratio of B/Total converging to? Also, lets say that drawing Black is lets say 25% and not 50% How would we solve this convergence problem? also, lets say that we put another restriction, that whenever we draw a BLACK ball, the next 2 balls must be white I.e. anything like this ( B B B B) will be reduced to (B W W B) Again, How will it converge in this case? when we keep putting the balls, what is this fraction getting closer to? This isnt really my homework, I just wanna solve this problem I find it intresting xD what I did so far is I started the series (for case when restriction is: when black ball is drawn, next ball cannot be black, 75%chance for what, 25% for black (but 0% if previous ball is balck ): if 1 ball is there, there is no restriction so for 4 trials we will get 1 black ball (25%) For 2 elements in the series and for 16 trials we will ommit BB probability and make it BW, so we lost 1 black ball (1/8 difference) B B > BW B W W B W W i.e. in 16 trials we ended up with 7 balls (instead of 8 balls if there was no restriction) and for 3 elements, we try 64 times, and we ommit the following results B B B will become B W B and B B W will become B W W and W B B will become W B W instead of ending up with 48 black balls we ended up with 41 black balls, losing 7 black ones (7/48 ) and for 4 elements in the series, we will ommit B B B B will become B W B W W B B B will become W B W B etc etc fo all values, and we will end up 216 black balls instead of 256 if we use common denominator for amount of lost black balls because of restriction compared to theoritical amount if there were no restrictions, it wil be 1 series 0/ 96 2 series 12 / 96 3 series 14 / 96 4 series 15/96 clearly to me it is converging somewhere, I just cant get there :S
  11. 1.1 I accept that it may be possible for number of chromosomes change in one offspring of the creatures. However, if the creature consisted of 2 separate genders, what are the chances that this new creature will find a nearby other creature with the same number of chromosome changes? As far as I know, it is usually 1 more chromosome, resulting an ODD number of chromosomes. What are the possibilities of such creatures reproducing? I heard this has been experimented before: that two humans of 1 less chromosomes married and bigot a child, but the result was a disaster. (though I cannot completely validate this as I heard it from one of my friends in school days) 1.2 is it possible for the number of chromosomes to increase or decrease by 2? (i.e. from monkeys to humans or vice versa) 1.3 First time I hear that gemets could double *____* anyway, assuming this is correct, the same question rises 1.1: what are the chances that 2 creatures on the same environment have this exact mutation simultaneously and then married. It can be done experimentally, but it feels impossible to be nature on the first glance. One way I imagine could make this possible is if the creature frequently produce offsprings with such mutations. Please note that all of the above applies only to creature that can only reproduce in pairs, i.e. 2 genders. 1.1 I believe you meant to say " it is not a guarantee of infertility" instead? 1.2 I believe the issue is the start. once abnormality spreads, then it is a straight forward issue. 1.3 I have read in wiki that one example of this is mule. mules usually are not able to reproduce. However, it claimed that one female mule have reproduced from donkey. Is this true? If yes, then how many chromosomes did the off spring have? is it capable of reproducing as well? 2.1 hmmm, but why would this no longer be the case in humans? most humans today only have one gender organs. There are rare cases in which a born baby can have organs for both male and female. However, I am not sure if both organs can be fertile and capable of reproduction: are there humans who are able to do both female and male rule in reproduction? 2.2 It does make sense that off springs will be specialized just like their parents are (i.e. either more towards male or female). However, this does not mean that the creature will be separated as it has same number of chromosomes, and this specialized can die out. 2.3 what happens if more male married with a more female? which sex would the children be more like? 2.4 I do not see why the two genders would separate in normal circumstances. The only explanation I see is that it could be possible due to social behaviour. for example, I think it is clear a seemingly man human would want to be pregnant even if he could be.
  12. Hello guys. I have watched few videos in Youtube explaining how evolution works. What I understand so far is that DNA gradually change across generations due to: 1-) Genetic mutation (i.e. imperfect copying of parent DNA?) 2-) Recombination if the creature consist of 2 parents. (i.e. because recombining DNA can result in new traits?) Then they stated that: due to these small changes, if you give it a long time, these changes will add up, eventually changing the creature. It does make sense to me so far. However, There are 2 things that I could not find explanation for: 1-) If creatures Had one origin, does evolution explain the integer differences in number of chromosomes? i.e. how did the ancestors of horses and donkeys resulted in a 64-chromosomes horse and 62 chromosomes donkeys? The reason I am asking this is because this is not a small change. This is an integer meaning that it is like a step, or threshold that occurs suddenly. It is not gradual because it is an integer. 2-) If The original creatures had only one gender, how did the first separation between male and female occur? i.e. lets say there has been a mutation making a certain creature a male that cannot produce by itself; if all the creatures around it are genderless and can reproduce by themselves then how would that male reproduce? Similarly, if a certain creature became a female due to mutation, then how would it be impregnated by other gender-less creatures? If they can reproduce by themselves then they would not need to reproduce with the female. I feel this question is a bit easier to tackle. If I remember correctly from school days, do some creatures reproduce from both one parent and 2 parents? I think I have came accross some kind of bacteria or other creatures that can reproduce both from one parent and 2. However, I want to hear your thoughts regarding this. I hope this is the correct forum to ask. Please feel free to point out any inaccurate or incorrect information. Edit: while I am at it, please do link any other topics that tackle evolution and how it works. I have just came in and I will be lurking around this forum for a while and see if there is anything intresting in regards to evolution. Yours faithfully, ConvinceMePlease
