Also, why no measurements of the brain neurotransmitters levels are made before prescribing neuroleptics ? That won't help. Psychiatrists generally do not examine any neuroimaging data in order to make a diagnosis. A psychiatric evaluation is based on the perceptions of the symptoms discussed by the patient. Claiming the cause of the disorder is a "chemical imbalance" without evidences of neurotransmitter dysfunction in order to pharmacologicaly regulate dopamine/serotonin levels with atypical antipsychotics is a risky business for the patient.
