I'd like to add, that the few jobs I applied for after travelling, was to memorize a few numbers to fill in the application form. The logistics involved to make this effective are huge. None.

Not really... It's not so much of being afraid, it's a pointless scheme. If you're referring to lack of privacy, and perhaps 'big brother' et.c, that's already there, and it's a pretty weak argument, so why bother raising it. I think the whole thing is ridiculous, it's a complete waste of money, and has no power of stopping anything national id cards are trying to stop. I know, I'm just a bit skint at the moment.
-
I'm more concerned as to the reasons why they're implementing ID cards. Plus, I think they should be free.
-
I fail to see much difference between the ID card, and a passport...how long will it be until ID cards are faked. I can't see what difference it will make, there's plenty of ways of getting into a country, and there's plenty of ways of becoming part of the society. There's been several uncoverings of false documents being used just a few miles from where I live, being handed out at language schools. I don't see why I should fork out more money, just to prove who I am...the problem should be tackled at the source.

Herme3, my only advice is that don't judge the future on your present situation, you have no idea how life can change, so try not to dwell on that fact. Also success is really subjective, don't get too hung up that your past mini enterprises have failed...I've had plenty of times where I thought, hmm this could be it, and it amounted to nothing. The trick is, to not think that's how it's always going to be, there's no force dishing out bad luck to certain individuals. It's really a matter of perspective, I don't have much more in the way of money, than I did 5 years ago, (in fact less because I'm paying for a degree) I've been single for a while, but I couldn't be happier...I feel I'm succesfull because I've got a positive outlook. Even if after 4 years of working hard to get a degree, and I still end up with a lame job...I couldn't care less. We all have low points, I beat myself up over my shortcomings sometimes, but it certainly doesn't last...and hopefully the way you feel won't last either.

burn4free, it does the job...actually listening to a cd I compiled last night. The problem was I've got a Nero file lurking somewhere, so I couldn't reinstall Nero on my pc (tried different versions) and to be honest it's a bit naff. Wavelab is handy because you can use VST plug-ins, and you can really go to town on rendering the files. As I listen to music at work, and have files from a number of sources with varying quality, wavelab was pretty good. Because I produce music, I'm a bit picky when it comes to quality...but I'll have to make do for now, ho hum.

Aaarrrgghh !!!!! I give up, just wasted a couple of hours when I should be concentrating on an assignment...guess I'll just have to stick to the forum.

Doh, I do that all the time...ME is renowned for DLL problems, cheers Klaynos, followed your steps...just get 'undefined string' and nobody online. I'm gonna give Xchat another go.

Not to worry, I found something.

Right, I get this when I try to install... Unable to execute file: C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\is-IAVTQ.tmp\update-modules.bat CreateProcess failed;code 31. A device attached to the sytem is not functioning Then a DLL error when I try to run X-chat... Xchat has caused an error in LIBPANGO-1.0-0.DLL Xchat will now close Any ideas ?

I bought a new CDRW a while ago, and wavelab fails to recognize it, I'm pretty good with wavelab, and I've tried everything. So I'm having to burn my cd's through media player, which is ridiculously slow, and a pain in the butt. So does anybody know of any half decent free cd burning software...I tried one called burrrrrn, but as soon as all the tracks are queued up and ready to put on cd, it comes up with an error and shuts down...meh.

I'll let you know tonight, I'm using another a pc at the moment.

Anybody know why the IRC Java times out ? With X chat, and MIRC I get errors when I try to install them (should of said this earlier) so I'm restricted to using IRC. EDIT: I've got Windows ME Ops (yes I know it's rubbish) and I think this is why I'm getting problems.
-
I've been on IRC chat once, and then my Java applet came up with some error. I've tried Mirc, X chat which both come up with errors. I sorted out my Java console, and now times out everytime I try to log in...like mike90. I've tried blackcobalt but I get a load of ads, and I can't see where you get into the SFN# chat room ? I'm pretty new to using domains et.c so probably me just being stupid. The one time I did get on there, I really enjoyed it...so getting a bit frustrated.

The proper definition is anyone who supports the preservation of the environment. So by merely turning the lights out at night, if I do it to save myself money (personal gain), I'm not an environmentalist. If I do it through the endeavour of decreasing energy consumption, I'm an environmentalist. Basically any beneficial act for the environment could be classed as environmentalism, so long as preservation of the environment is what the person had in mind when doing said act.

Granted, but you are now married to Camilla Parker Bowells. I wish I could teleport to anywhere in the world.

Granted, but you'll dress like it's 1996. I wish I could undress people just by looking at them.

Electroweak Force and Unification
Royston replied to Deified's topic in Modern and Theoretical Physics
So even if the Higgs field is discovered to be correct, does that not change anything ? EDIT: Forget I said that, I'm not thinking straight. -
Granted, but your license is limited to an Ornithopter. I wish everybody obeyed my command.

Perhaps, but a couple of women I've asked about said pooing, have, putting it frankly, mouths like toilets. As in they have no hang ups about filth of any description or context (unshockable if you like), except for having a poo at work. This is really what prompted me to ask the question.

I know everyone has been posting funny retorts, but this opening quote from David does make me chuckle.

I'm not sure if it matters if they're sure or unsure...a women with relatively high status in the workplace has probably more to loose. The uncertainty of how bad it's going to smell is definetly something to be unsure about. So I guess it could be either prissiness, or possible embarrassment. It is rather daft, it's almost insinuating that nobody else around you does smelly ones, which is obviously rubbish. You could also just wait until everyone has vacated, then nobody would know who was the perpetrator. Surely it's not healthy to hold it in ? EDIT: gcol, flippant responses...jokes are all welcome on my threads, but obviously they'd have to adhere to SFN policy et.c

I've been speaking to a few women at work, and I've also heard from friends that their female colleagues refuse to have a poo at work. Obviously there's probably plenty of women who are quite comforable with this, but from my own gathering of data, not one will have a poo at work. I just find this really irrational, we're all human, why are the women I've spoken to and heard about, feel uncomfortable doing their business at work. (no pun intended) The only response I've had is...'no, it just doesn't feel right' and 'I don't know, I think a lot of women are the same.'

Right, thanks for the response Severian, though I must admit I havn't covered natural or unnatural units, and I'm clueless with the use of a matrix in QED, I've bookmarked this page for future reference though. I can just about follow the first bit EDIT: Ok, atleast I know what is meant by a natural unit now...it just wasn't mentioned in the book.
