I have no idea if there is a certain name to this argument/idea. But surely it's been discussed before. Omniscient is used in this context: Knowing everything there is to know about anything and everyone from any point in time in any context. My question is, if you have an omniscient entity, do you have ANY free will whatsoever? If this entity knows what choices I'll make before they are even presented to me, do I really have a choice at all? What do you guys think? Answers, links, and rude comments are all welcome and appreciated.

This is complete, idiotic, unfounded speculation, but maybe a device that would be capable of transmitting those signals forward in time* would have to be bulky? * If that's even possible.

OMFG! It's Master Chief! Oh wait...He can't time travel or warp from discs... It's Doctor Who! Oh wait....

A thread at rationalskepticism.org on gay marriage
A Tripolation replied to Severian's topic in The Lounge
Well said. Even is Severian is some YEC bent on enslaving homosexuals, the posters on the other site behaved in an appalling manner. And to his credit, he tried repeatedly to clarify his position. They just wouldn't listen. -

Yeah. They're all douchebags. It seems like...an odd mix of hatred of religion...and atheist-elitism? at the same time. There are small, practical problems with your idea, but none that warrant such language and ridicule. -
Hijack from Recommended Religious Reading

She's also a scary military person that blinds enemies with her awesome. -
That's excellent news. Conway unleashed a VERY aggressive negative ad challenging Rand Paul's faith that's on the local channels constantly. I wonder if that has anything to do with it? And Ron is much more moderate and progressive than his son is.

I used the past tense because the events of which I spoke occurred in the past. And no, the only hospital around here has and always will be quite expensive. Just today I paid 92 dollars out of pocket for a general physician to see me for ten minutes and tell me what I already knew was wrong. So it's still expensive. And no, I have no way to access any kind of reasonable health insurance whatsoever. I'm just old enough to not be covered by Kentucky's Medicaid program. I'm not lying to young minds.

I feel your pain bascule. In my home state, Rand Paul is set to win by a landslide. And that guy is as crazy as crazy gets. But everybody loves him around here. I just don't understand it... Jack Conway may be an idiot, but he's the lesser of two idiots. It frightens me with what zeal people defend Paul. And they don't even know what he believes. Just that he's not a democrat and is a Christian. Spiraling downward indeed. By the context of your statement, it sounded like you were saying, "The military is a way for the poor to get a job/money and benefits. They should sign up." That's how it appeared to me anyways. And I think (apologies if this is incorrect), that padren was saying, "They shouldn't have to go sign up for a war in a remote desert and get shot at to have medical care, and if they do, they damn well should have continued health care when the return." But yeah...

...No? When did I give the impression that I had lost either of my parents?

It's ok. I was very offended in my first post, but not really in any of the others. My messages may seem to come across as more emotional than they actually are. That is not the case. Thank you though.

I claim to have accomplished nothing. Where anywhere did I say I was anything more than a student in college? Erm, no. Without being too maudlin, my father has probably worked just as hard as any coal miner in those days. Getting two or three hours of sleep every day, working every single day including holidays, walking on a broken leg until it grew back together incorrectly because medical care was too expensive, milking 60 dairy cattle twice a day with no help, growing 11 acres of tobacco with little help, maintaining fences and other farm labor, growing corn and hay with no help, ect ect, all to pay off the debts his parents stupidly incurred. So no thanks Jackson, I already understand what true hard work is. I understand how easy I have it, and how blessed I am. I don't need you to lecture me on what you believe to be truth. Rigney was complaining that there were spanish options on certain phone menus. I told him to get over it, that America has become so diverse that those options make sense for a profit-driven company.

You're right. I'm making it up. It's easy for a child that had never been to school before to go to one that's in a completely different language, with no ESL programs at all, and learn English as if they had been born here. I was being dramatic. Because I enjoy arguing with people. And trolling.

What are the errors in this reasoning?
A Tripolation replied to A Tripolation's topic in Speculations
Ah. I see. Thanks for the excellent article Mr S. -
I was given a link to this article by a professor: http://www.halos.com/ Unfortunately, I do not have the geology/chem background to point out the errors in this. And maybe there aren't any, but the authors are still inferring baseless 'facts'. Does anything pop out that makes this either credible or psuedoscience?

Help with solving a differential equation
A Tripolation replied to A Tripolation's topic in Homework Help
So I've reached Part Three in this problem. By some crazy luck, I've managed to reduce the equations to: [math] \psi (x) = C_1 e^{\xi^2/2} + C_2 e^{-\xi^2/2} [/math] The term, [math] C_1 e^{\xi^2/2} [/math] grows impossibly large as [math] \xi\to\infty [/math] , so it can be thrown out as a physically implausible term, correct? If so, I get, [math] \psi(\xi) \approx C_2 e^{-\xi^2/2} [/math], which is [math] \psi(\xi) = h(\xi)e^{-\xi^2/2} [/math], based on other information given in the problem. But, h is an unknown function. I'm supposed to find it somehow. I'm thinking power series, maybe, but do not know if that's correct or how to get started on that. Ideas? -
Modern American conservatism is simultaneously evil and insane
A Tripolation replied to bascule's topic in Politics
Living where I do, and I hate to say this because it sounds so elitist, but many people around here are TEA-partyists. They believe all the misleading statements fed to them. They do not bother digging up the truths themselves. But like some posters have already states, they were initially against many "socialist" aspects of Obama's agenda to begin with. -
Help with solving a differential equation

Ohhhhhhhhhh. I see now. Thanks to you timo. And you too tree. -
I...wow... Perseverance was all she had. She was dirt poor. Her family couldn't afford a tutor. It was completely her own determination that she mastered English. ...Are you implying my mother wasn't a good citizen because she spoke in Spanish when she was here? I'm from Kentucky. So I already know your type. You hate everything that's different. You hate Spanish because it's not the antiquated country dialect you've known all your life. You hate Mexicans because they're "taking jobs", even though they're some of the hardest workers I've ever met in my life. They work 18 hour days when the most I can handle is 12. Why opening a topic on something you know you're not going to change your mind about? Just leave.

I've lived in America my entire life. However, my mother is from Panama. They didn't have ESL programs or phone options when she first moved to the States when she was 10. Needless to say, she had a very difficult time grasping an entirely new language with no assistance whatsoever. Rigney, I'm having a really hard time figuring out why you find, "Para espanol, prese cinco", to be as torturous and cold as the ninth circle of hell. It's six seconds of your life. Press for English, and move on with your life. He is. He stated that. Being able to read in English as almost as important as being able to speak it, rigney. And by the way, for such a die-hard American patriot, your grammar is appalling. And half of your sentences are either incomplete or suffering from verb-tense disagreements. Just thought you should know.

Help with solving a differential equation
A Tripolation replied to A Tripolation's topic in Homework Help
I'm just trying to figure out how to do it. I don't see how to "introduce the dimensionless variable". -
Ok. I'm having a very difficult time with this problem. I can't even do this first part. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Like what steps I should take, what method to use, whether or not to become a lit. major, ect., ect. Here it is. Part 1. We seek to solve the time-independent Schrodinger equation: [math] \frac{-\hbar^2}{2m} \frac{d^2\psi}{dx^2} + \frac{1}{2}m\omega^2 x^2 \psi = E\psi [/math] First, introduce the dimensionless variable: [math] \xi = \sqrt{ \frac{m \omega}{\hbar}}x, [/math] and show that the Schrodinger equation becomes: [math] \frac{d^2 \psi}{d \xi^2} = (\xi^2 - K) \psi, [/math] where K is the energy in units of [math] \frac{1}{2} \hbar \omega,[/math] say [math] K = \frac{2 \xi}{\hbar \omega} [/math] Sooooo...what about it?

There we freakin' go. Thank you. SHE WENT ALONG WITH IT. I don't care how stupid she is so long as she is above the requirements. She committed a crime. She deserves to be punished.

...damn. How did we do that? Oh. There we go. That's your answer.
