Is there any difference between uniform motion and rest? Can you please explain the answer?
-
It's obviously not a black hole and actually a Dyson sphere encompassing this star. Scientist have a tendency to go where evidence suggests and overlook the truth. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dyson_sphere
-
I think these are not the right points/enough evidence to suggest a black hole. Was "black hole" mentioned in this feed?

Speed of light independent of the source ?
Silvestru replied to Roger Dynamic Motion's topic in Classical Physics
Ahaha made my day. "The Astronauts" -
Hello guys, I was hoping to start a topic where we could friendly insult each other in a scientific way just for laughs. Stuff like: "You got into the gene pool while the lifeguard wasn't watching." or "Your wheel is turning, but the hamster is dead." "You are so dense that light bends around you." etc

What evidence is there that parallel universes exist?
Silvestru replied to mad_scientist's topic in The Lounge
Roger, I see that your Keyboard and your sense of logic suffered the same fate. -
Today I learned that you only need 39 digits of π to calculate the circumference of the observable universe with a precision of one atom.

Today I learned that people who smile the most in public also cry the most at home.

Proton, the ultimate dragster?
Silvestru replied to 36grit's topic in Modern and Theoretical Physics
Apologies, for weighing in but I thought that we have passed this concept. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wave%E2%80%93particle_duality Protons don't vibrate, and electrons don't move around the nucleus. But I treat physics like a religion just trying to read from the right people and believing in them blindly without the ability to test for myself so please have mercy on my soul. Edit: By the way I'm pretty sure the OP meant Photon not Proton and we are just really of course but this is more interesting I think. -

Protons don't vibrate. Are you thinking about the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle? -
Just meet people and be sociable. That's very important later in life.

We would like to apologize for not adding more jokes but we only update them.... periodically

Sensei I chose 1000$ to be able to give simple examples. My friend grows bonsai-like trees in his living room. Investment is less than 1000$ and trust me profits can be very big. Another friend goes to second hand clothing shops one day a week and sells hipster sweaters on her website making 50bucks profit for each with minimum effort. I can give many examples. I was hoping to hear more also

Yeah but the goal in this investment question is monetary profit. Which lets face it...Science is not a hot environment for this for the individual. For the company/nation yes.

I was also making chemistry jokes but there was no reaction

Hello guys, I know this is a science forum but it's also where many smart people gather. I was just curious whats your idea about investing if you had lets say a small amount of 1000$. For example I heard that most Cocoa producers are switching to other fruits as it is really not profitable so chocolate prices will surely increase. One option would be to invest in a long shelf life cocoa product.

Today I learned that a sheep, a duck and a rooster were the first passengers in a hot air balloon.

What about genetic meddling? Could we somehow stimulate or introduce genes that increase brain size for primates? I'm sorry for insisting but I really want to have a chat and a cup of tea with Bubbles during my lifetime.

I wanted to avoid bringing up selective breeding but it's something that has already been done. Many dog breeds are artificially created and not a natural occurrence. We can say that a Golden Retriever or a German Shepard is smarter than a Dachshund (sorry for offending any hot dog owners). This is because we were looking for different traits for each of these dog breeds.

Aside from being taller, the Cave troll has the added advantage of not being able to type on a keyboard. Also it has no opinion on religion and does not persecute or contradict valid arguments. Be like the Cave Troll folks. Many people asked how you propose to Tax religion. Should we also tax grammar mistakes, accents and people who believe in fields rather than particles while we're there?

Tolkien and the Norse mythology together could not come up with a bigger troll than Handy Andy. The sad part after reading this thread is that everyone is still trying to convince a troll to think rationally.

Effect of collisions while travelling at relativistic speeds?
Silvestru replied to Fanghur's topic in Astronomy and Cosmology
Why was the bartender in "Passengers" the most advanced piece of technology on board. Like really, every piece of equipment that these guys were interacting with was horrible, worse than present day equipment and much less user friendly. Food machines spitting cookies, Telephone charging you 1 000 000$ to deliver SOS message. I know it's for comedic effect but.... It was just bad.
