  1. Sure, look up fsdisk. You can make a bootable floppy disk to partition.

    Or, you can download knoppix linux, the live cd, which has a GUI partitioner called "

    QTPARTED". Its awesome. and lets you create partiions.

  2. There is absolutely no scientific evidence for atheism' date=' let alone proof.

    Of course there is plenty of logical, observational, scientific and historical support for the theory of evolution.

    Please [b']do not[/b] confuse creationism with theism:

    • Theism is a religious belief that science really has nothing to do with.
    • Creationism is a rejection of science.

    Religion and science can co-exist they are not mutually exclusive.

    A sad thing is, that many theist, aka many christians, are creationist. Wether it be called science or not, they still like to argue. My father being one.

    I am not mixing the two, rather the people who are theist are. And in order to be a creationist, you MUST be a theist.

    Therfore, if I can show my father in particular, that the bible that he bases he beliefs on, and the bible that he *trys* to reconciliate with scince are eroneuos, he will either do one of the following: recognize that his religion (CHRISITANITY) is erroneous and based of a erroneous book. And creationism, based on his religion, is indeed false and completley goes against science.

  3. You cannot force people to think in a way that pleases you. You have to accept that some people will always disagree.

    I was not trying to "force" anyone. I was trying to show them through science, biblical contradictions, how god does not exist, and how there beloved book is erroneous, therefore crumbling their beliefs in a god.

  4. Me and dave on irc got together and decide to try and start holding LIVE debates on irc. Today we held our first. It wasnt the greatest, it happned on the spot, and didnt really have strong points/counterpoints.

    But bear with us, it is very exciting as their can be feedback, and audience questions!

    *Please not that the debate is Herme3 VS schrodngr's_cat (schrodngr's_cat used the alias "reverened fagel"

    The topic was : Windows better than *nix O/S'es

    Debaters: herme3 VS

    Here is the first one:

    <herme3> Ok, well I've used Microsoft Windows for many years. I've watched it improve over the years, and I can't think of anything bad to say about Windows XP. I admit it had a few bugs, but all of them seem to have been fixed from Windows update. Linux, however, has so many compatibility issues with almost all the software and hardware that I have. All of that works perfectly on Windows XP.

    * JPQuiceno : You have 8 minutes. If you wish to finish early, please let me know.

    <herme3> I would like another operating system if I thought it was better than Windows. However, I have tried other operating systems and had many problems. Even before I started posting on the Linux thread, I had used Linux and UNIX. Both of them seemed to have bugs. Meanwhile, Windows XP always seems to run smoothly.

    <herme3> Even though I know how to work around many of these bugs, I don't understand why I would waste the time. I could accomplish more by using Windows XP.

    <herme3> I have used Windows XP on a HP Celeron processor. If that had been my only experience with Windows XP, I would delete it and install the first other operating system I could find.

    <herme3> After using Windows XP on some more high-quality computers, I realized that the problem wasn't Windows XP. It was the computer.

    <herme3> Linux may not require as much computer power, but that doesn't make it better. Windows XP might be more high-tech and therefore require more computer power.

    * d1337rev is now known as super1337reverendpimpguy

    * JPQuiceno : You have 2 minutes.

    <herme3> I really like Windows XP. It just seems more stable than anything I used. I never had it freeze on my best computer.

    <herme3> I've used FreeBSD and Windows XP on my best computer. Windows XP ran much more smoothly.

    * JPQuiceno sets mode: -v herme3

    <JPQuiceno> Great round.

    <JPQuiceno> I would like to remind the audience and debaters again

    <JPQuiceno> that this is our FIRST debate

    <JPQuiceno> and was a tad bit unorganized

    <JPQuiceno> next debates will have threads

    <JPQuiceno> and the accepters will meet here

    <JPQuiceno> and debate

    <JPQuiceno> ok

    <JPQuiceno> now it is fagels turn

    * JPQuiceno sets mode: +v Reverend_Fagel

    <Reverend_Fagel> ok

    <JPQuiceno> you will start in 2 minutes

    <JPQuiceno> at 10:05

    <JPQuiceno> 1 mintute

    <Reverend_Fagel> can i say somthing first

    <JPQuiceno> sorry no

    * JPQuiceno sets mode: -v Reverend_Fagel

    <JPQuiceno> in 1 minute

    <JPQuiceno> you can speak

    * JPQuiceno sets mode: +v Reverend_Fagel

    <Reverend_Fagel> i am sorry for any spelling errors i may type

    <JPQuiceno> Begin. You have the floor.

    <Reverend_Fagel> Ok first of all I would like to mention that windows XP a froze about 15 times scince i bought it in late 2003 yat knoppix hd_install)

    <Reverend_Fagel> has froze 1 time in the 3 months i have had it

    * dave is now known as dave|zzz

    <Reverend_Fagel> now also linux will run on just about any computer you can possiblly find therefore making it cheaper to use than a like-windows box

    <Reverend_Fagel> and while linux may not have all of the bells and whistles that windows has it runs faster than windows does with the EXACT same hardware

    <Reverend_Fagel> and the "linux user explosion" has only recently occured you could compare Linux develompent -wise to a early windows 98

    <Reverend_Fagel> and best of all linux is FREE

    <Reverend_Fagel> thats it im done

    * JPQuiceno sets mode: -v Reverend_Fagel

    <JPQuiceno> Great run.

    <JPQuiceno> Ok thats the end of round 2.

    * Capn_Refsmmat has quit IRC (Quit: Have fun debating)

    <JPQuiceno> I will give each debater a 5 minute break to prepare their speeches.

    <JPQuiceno> Use it wisely and attack the others weakness :P

    <JPQuiceno> at 10:15

    <JPQuiceno> in 4 mins

    <JPQuiceno> get ready!

    <JPQuiceno> :P

    <JPQuiceno> 1 minutue

    <JPQuiceno> then its herme3's turn

    <JPQuiceno> each will have a 10 minute time then the other

    <JPQuiceno> then after a 5 minute closing speech

    * JPQuiceno sets mode: +v herme3

    <JPQuiceno> You have the floor. proceed.

    <herme3> Windows XP froze about 5 times on me in one hour. I was using a HP Celeron computer. That isn2019t a very good computer. My computer is a top-of-the-line Compaq. I2019ve had it for about a year, and it never

    froze on me. Not one time! I had some programs stop responding, but the task manager terminated them. No problem.

    <herme3> Yes, I know that Compaq is owned by HP. However, the Compaq products are much higher-quality...

    <herme3> Anyway, I also have an old Compaq from 1999.

    * JPQuiceno : Please stay on topic.

    <herme3> When I first installed Windows XP, it was slow and unstable.

    <herme3> However, instead of giving up my compatibility, I upgraded it.

    <herme3> After $300.00 I have a fast computer with Windows XP.

    <herme3> It also has never frozen.

    * super1337reverendpimpguy is now known as pimpschizzle

    <herme3> I mean, since I upgraded everything...

    <herme3> I'm also happy to say ALL of my software is working with Windows XP. I couldn't say the same about FreeBSD, or any other Operating System.

    <herme3> I can also enjoy the Windows Media Player. I just downloaded 3 CDs worth of songs from the MSN store. That is something that I couldn't do with FreeBSD.

    <herme3> I've never had any problems with IE. However Firefox would not let me file complaints at StormPay.

    <herme3> Netscape wouldn't let me into certain chat rooms.

    <herme3> I haven't had ANY of those problems with IE.

    <herme3> I am a computer specialist, and I have used Windows XP a lot. I know what I am talking about when I said it was a good operating system.

    <herme3> I've setup networks with Windows XP at major companies. They are all very happy with Windows XP.

    <herme3> Windows XP is also very easy to repair. With system restore, you can fix almost any operating system error, and not lose any of your documents, pictures, etc.

    * JPQuiceno : 2 minutes remain.

    <herme3> It is organized. Even if you are a computer-genius, who wants to waste time finding something that is easy to find in Windows XP?

    <herme3> Just because you can do something the difficult way, doesn't mean you should. Windows isn't made for unintelligent people. It is made for people who want to accomplish more in less time.

    <herme3> When Windows XP freezes, I'm sure it is a computer problem. Not a Windows XP problem.

    * JPQuiceno sets mode: -v herme3

    <JPQuiceno> Good run.

    <JPQuiceno> Now it is fagels turn.

    * JPQuiceno sets mode: +v Reverend_Fagel

    <JPQuiceno> You have 10 minutes

    <JPQuiceno> at 10:26 your time is up

    <JPQuiceno> Proceed.

    * JPQuiceno sets mode: -o dave|zzz

    * quartz sets mode: +o dave|zzz

    <Reverend_Fagel> the problems with the other browsers u had

    * pimpschizzle is now known as herme4

    <Reverend_Fagel> are from the fact that 90% of the internet is written for IE and most likely does not meet the standards set forth by the W3C

    <Reverend_Fagel> the widly regnoigzed authority on web standards

    <Reverend_Fagel> now for your "media" issues buying the cds themselves would have been cheaper and you can rip the on just about ANY media player

    <Reverend_Fagel> you are right about 1 thing widows wasnt made for "unintelligent " people just people who like everything to be but in a confusing order

    <Reverend_Fagel> thats it im done

    * JPQuiceno sets mode: -v Reverend_Fagel

    <JPQuiceno> Ok

    <JPQuiceno> Finishing arguements.

    <JPQuiceno> Herm3

    * JPQuiceno sets mode: +v herme3

    <JPQuiceno> 5 minutes

    <JPQuiceno> until 10:35

    <JPQuiceno> proceed.

    <herme3> Well, about the music. It might be cheaper to buy an entire CD than to buy each song by the band.

    <herme3> But my CDs had different bands on it. It was a lot cheaper to just download my favorite songs, than to buy each CD from each band.

    <herme3> And why would the browser standards mean anything to the average user? If you want to use StormPay, and Firefox isn't working with it, you are still going to wish you had IE.

    <herme3> You can't just go find a version of the site that follows the standards. The average user will just need to find a browser that works with what they need.

    * Retrieving #debate modes...

    <herme3> It would be great if sites followed the standards. The truth is that they don't, so you need a browser that works with the sites.

    * JPQuiceno sets mode: -v herme3

    * JPQuiceno sets mode: +o Reverend_Fagel

    * Reverend_Fagel slaps herme4 a few times

    <JPQuiceno> You have until 10:41

    <JPQuiceno> proceed

    * JPQuiceno sets mode: +v Reverend_Fagel

    * JPQuiceno sets mode: -o Reverend_Fagel

    <Reverend_Fagel> no i would not wish to have IE because i performed an experiment

    <Reverend_Fagel> I used IE for 3 Months doing my normal surfing, (finding cd-keys, program cracks and reading news online) and and 14 viriuses

    <Reverend_Fagel> same thing w/ firefox 2 viruses both from dowloaded materals not gerneral surfing

    <Reverend_Fagel> and the cracks and cd-keys were for RESEARCH purposes only

    <Reverend_Fagel> if all web sites followed standards the internet would be a better place

    <Reverend_Fagel> im finishede

    * JPQuiceno sets mode: -v Reverend_Fagel

    <JPQuiceno> Good run.

    <JPQuiceno> I would like to congratualte both debaters.

    <JPQuiceno> The log will be posted on the forums

    <JPQuiceno> Good day to you.

    <JPQuiceno> Congratulations

    Look forward to more live debates!

  5. Dude, seriously. I swear on my life. I used to be a christian boy growing up. Most of my family is christian. I am only 16, but I belive I am very mature, and have a pretty good understanding of sciences/life/religion.

    I have had multiple VERBAL FIGHTS with my mother particulary, where she says that I shouldnt dare say god doenst exist, and that one day, every knee will bow, and that I will say that she was right.

    I WOULD GIVE ANYTHING, I MEAN ANYTHING, TO FREE MY FAMILY FROM THIS RELIGIOUS MIND PRISON AND WAY OF THINKING.

    I am currently working on a book/manual on how to get friends and close relatives to realize that religion isnt true. Im trying to do it through many ways.

    Scienctific proofs.

    Physcology.

    Contradictions in the bible.

    Im using this book as a guideline to help me.

    http://www.ffrf.org/shop/books/details.php?cat=fbooks&ID=FB5

    I know I cant reach all of them, and I cant liberate them all, because some wont give up.

    But as long as I can ahieve the following, I will be happy:

    The realize the scientific proofs, contradictions. If they still say that im full of shit, then I know there is no hope, and that they are lying to themselves.

    Again, Heres the book im using as a guidline:

    http://www.ffrf.org/shop/books/details.php?cat=fbooks&ID=FB5

    It was a preacher who did missions for like 15 years and turned atheist. Good Stuff.

    It even has some excerpts from the book!

    P.S: if anyone is interested in helping me in my project, let me know. Thanks.

  6. Dammit hellbender! I wish I would of said that to my creationist friend!

    He always says that I don't look at both sides of the story, and that im being brainwashed by evil scientist who fornicate, dont love god, and rip babies arms off and murder.

    Then I tell him, that facts are facts, which science provide, I have no need to look at fairy tales!

    He still blabbers on. Im going to tell him that whole "democratic process" thing next time. Thanks!

  7. http://www.icr.org/

    I as an atheist have seen this website and heard a lot about this institue.

    Supposedly, I heard they have some "scientist" that have Ph.D's in biology.

    Now, the thing is, (me not being an expert in biology) I have heard from a close and reliable friend, that evolution is a foundation of Biology. Now if this is true, then how the heck does a "christion" become a biologist and try to disprove us using what he learned in biology, if its foundation is evolution?

    Please answer. Thanks.

  8. Real Hacking, Real Hackers, not script kiddies with names to hide, but people who are network and computer security enthuisiats. Want to learn to really hack, and become a hacker? Here, this will tell you EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW. Thats, if you are really up to it. Thats if you don't want to be a little cyber punk, downloading Sub7, typing in leetspeak, learning to respect peoples copyrighted work, learn to write correctly, learn to be a tad bit more mature, dedication to learn languages and protocols, and etc.

    Here is the link:

    http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/hacker-howto.html

    BTW, most of those so called hacking sites are little 8 year old kids with names such as "The ElitEz0r" who can't learn squat and are wanna be black hat crackers.

    Good Luck.

  9. /on offtopic

    It has come to my attention that the fact that many atheist and scientist like me are seeing in the arguemnet in creationist. The whole "God Of The Gaps" arguement logic.

    Us scientist have no personal vendetta against religion, people, or such.

    We see the world, use scientific methods, and rational thinking and logic, to come to the best conlclusion that us as a whole scientific communtiy agree that is the best explanation for a certain phenomenom.

    Now, in my opinion, I see that most creationist have this problem with the "God of the gaps".

    For example, I say that God doesnt exist, and that we don't need religion or the bible to explain anything around us.

    Then a creationist say, "Jeez, can you actually tell me that you think all of this came out of nowhere, that little sally's toes move and that your eyes are so perfectly tuned! Or that the earth is perfectly far away from the sun, and if it were closer, it would not allow human life on earth."

    Then, I proceed to explain how these things are possible. Then he proceeds to change the subject, and for example, says, "well what about gravity, and how its perfectly balanced." As before, I proceed to answer his question, and he proceeds to switch subjects.

    Creationist see the world around them, and instead of trying to use scientifc method, to actually see how things work, they proceed to try to explain the universe through the "Biblical Lens", or in other words, using gods explanation of the universes creation.

    This was kinda off topic, put just wanted to point it out.

    /off offtopic

    Now to say this. I know that analogies and rhetorics and things of such, dont prove anything, but for the fun of it I will give an example.

    I have heard a lot of creationist say this old analogy. Im modifying it a bit and turning and using it against them. :P

    Here it goes:

    If I invite you to my home. And you come over and see a beautiful painting hanging on the wall, and I am also suprised, because I had never seen it there before.

    We walk up to the painting, and see its beauty, intricate workings of detail, color, texture, vividness. Now, we look down and see 2 notes. Each has a word on it. One says, Creation, the other says science. I look at you and say, "How the heck did this painting get here?", you proceed to say, "Beats me". We pick up the creation note, and it says the following " You are seeing this painting on this wall. It lays here, because, Micaelangelo, the great paint, 500 years ago, decreed its creation, and it was done. It is here in front of you because he gave the word to have it done, and it is."

    Now, you pick up the Science note, and it reads " You are here in this living room, looking at this painting. It lays here, because while you went to get the door a man came in and hanged it up. He was at home for 1 week painting, spending countless hours painting, giving detail, with colors he bought at the local store, with his credit card, which is based off funds he worked for. When you came back he was gone, and the painting was there".

    Now out of the 2, which would you think is the best and logical eplanation for the painting? The first, the creation note, the one saying that some 1000 year old man said it would appear here, in the year 2005, and that it just happned. No explanation. Defying laws and logic.

    Or the second note, the science note. The one that tell you at what time, and how it was placed in your home. Who created it, how he did, and how he got the materials to create the painting, and with what skills. Not defying laws of physics, logic, or anything. Perfectly normal. Not requiring you to LIE to yourself and say that it magically apeared there.

    It seems to me IMHO, that 2 is the logical choice, for someone that doesnt ignore their logic.

    Now the case is, why when it comes to the bible, people don't see the illogical arguements and statements.

    Please, in all honesty, any creationist tell me its easier to belive, that this earth just was created out of nothing, by something we have never seen, that defys logic (which we use every day to make logical decisions like to eat, sleep, not kill our human mates, to go to work and etc) instead of knowing and beliveing that the explanations given by science, through scientific methods, actual phyiscal proof and evidences, WHICH DONT defy logic and laws, is harder to believe. Even if you are not a scientist with a Ph.D in biology, it seems much more sense to me, to believe that science is the answer, not some bed time story (pun intended).

    Just my opinion, thanks for your time.

  10. Such a philosophical question...

    Most of the arguments against life in the Universe on probabilistic grounds are flawed on two points: (1) they assume life must be "like us"' date=' and (2) they are based on an assumption about the size and population of the Universe.

    Spritually I'd say the Universe IS alive. How else do you explain consciousness?

    More practically, though even if we assumed that the chances of life arising around some star are only 1/1,000,000,000,000,000, there are still more than enough stars to cover the probability.

    I often consider that life exists as a symmetrical complement to entropy.

    Has anyone else ever puzzled over the fact that we can mathematically generate something like Sierpenski's Triangle using at least three different methods: IFS, cellular automata, and discrete fractal iteration of line segments; all of which are iterative (note: DNA is iterative)? Does life describe a fractal shape between 3 and 4 dimensions? Is the existence of information quantitative? Why does DNA have to be present for there to be "life"? Would any self-replicating, iterative process of such fractal dimension result in "life"?

    What is "life" anyway?[/quote']

    That is interesting. You said that there is more than enough stars to cover the chances even if it was 1 out of a trillion. I never heard that before. Thanks for letting me know. :P
