I don't think biologists are qualified enough to speculate without any information, i mean, we don't even have an exampe of a planet that could support life by OUR standards, how would any respectable person make ANY assumption without looking like a quack?

I think the main problem with the debate on life is arrogance. For many people, especially christians, they cannot grasp the concept that saying "only humans have a soul" is a very arrogant, very stupid thing to say considering there is nothing that seperates us from other life forms. Another problem is that we place life on a giant pedestal. Life is just a term referring to specific proceses that occur in the body, nothing to do with a spirit or soul or anything that we can't create.

It's true. Religion would completely collapse if alien life was encountered, much much faster if the alien race is intelligent. Or the Christians could do what they've always done: Interpret the bible a different way to make themselves look less wrong after each scientific discovery...

Some weirdos choose to be anorexic. They have disgusting p2p websites for such a purpose. I'm not lashing out at those who woke up with this disorder. They don't go on low carb diets. I'm lashing out at those who have willingly decided to ruin their lives for "beauty". And in my mind, those people should (and eventually will) suffer a punishment far worse than ridicule. If you happen to be one of those people, I'm sorry. Not because I offended you, but because of the grief you cause yourself and others. If you are anorexic and do not wish to live that lifestyle but feel compelled to do it because of a mental illness, I am deeply sorry for my post, know that it was not directed at you. If you are neither, I hope this serves as a clarification and that I would appreciate if such "corrections" would be inserted in a PM.

I use the "lesser of two ignorances" argument. It annoys me that christians use detailed scientific explanations to hack away at evolution via the macroevolution arguement, but end up saying we should believe a theory that is 100 times more primitive and unbelieveable.

Why is it that every time a christian gets upset over evolution, they argue in this exact format: 1. Argue extremely scientific details and provide technical, deliberate information against evolution in the form of attacking the macro/microevolution achilles heel. 2. Act cocky and arrogant because yes, evolution has it's flaws 3. After using more and more science to attack evolution, Come to the conclusion that just because evolution isn't 100% foolproof, everyone should go and believe that a nebulous being with indistinct powers plopped every living thing on earth in a couple days and they are all the exact same way as they used to be, and end it all with a quote from the bible, which to them is as accurate as any scientific text. Despite the fact that the bible, religion, and god, were all created by humans.

Yeah, defining what is "bad" for your body is also a controversial issue, who gets to make the call? In terms of intervening on suicide, I think that rights aren't being bypassed. The state can alsways say that they are stepping on your rights because you are mentally ill, and say that they aren't intervening with your rights to do whatever with yourself.

Heres a question. If the animal is 1/2 human, should we dissect it? what about 3/4 human? and on and on? when would we NOT dissect the resultant offspring?

I think the only person that should be able to get that information is the child after reaching a certain age.
