  1. its actually more of a kinase signalling system. its called mTOR (mammalian homolog: Tor2). its supposed to activate/modulate autophagosome formation in autophagy. I wanna see the effects of some stuff on this "pathway" or i dunno if its even a gene. you can check some background info on it (paper: Klionsky D. Emr J. Autophagy as a Regulated Pathway of Cellular Degradation Science 2000 Volume???) Say its a gene, can you test the effect of gene activation? Thankyou.
  2. say if you used a cytokine or a gas to test its effect on the kinase.
  3. I was supposed to attend the AP Chem one but I didn't go and it covers the first 4 chapters, the teacher's giving me the notes for independent study. Do you think it's too tough to "self-teach"?
  4. oh wow. this is like a total phenomenon. i used to wish i was an empath
  5. i dunno about these sports boosting height.. i think its that tall people play these sports
  6. Yea thats true, but nowaday teenagers think like that too.. so not much difference. umm.. was Kinsey the same?
  7. oh wow, i'm not an empath but how do u "sense" or "feel" other's emotions? does it just come naturally after seeing someone without knowing who they are at all?
  8. My teacher told me that all he did was relate things to sex.
  9. bloodhound is right this thread kicks major ass some wrong syllables...
  10. if so, how many years of foreign language? I know Yale has a new foreign language requirement thing for undergrads. What are the "minimum" SAT and GPA's needed to get in? And is sports and extra-curricular SUCH a big deal?
  11. yea kinda.. its a project i'm doing ok? and we need to make up questions and answer them.
  12. btw, Tor2 induces autophagosome formation and induces autophagy in cells
  13. ok, would you need something like a flow cytometer and use fluorescence staining or use ELISA?
  14. how does osmoregulation (the process) function in living osmoregulators and osmoconformers, and why is it important to these organisms? What factors affect osmoregulation other than salt/ solute concentration? oh.. and how does osmoregulation affect body volume? THANNKS!
  15. ok then. if i wanted to detect the activation of for example the Tor2 kinase by some kind of gas (eg./ H2O2) or a cytokine (eg./ IL-4) in yeast cells then what kind of protocol/assay method would I need to use to find out?
  16. thanks for the thorough explanation but why does it say "gene" and then "mammalian homolog" then? wouldn't they just put "signalling protein" or something else?
  17. lol. you don't need to be too worried, girls don't really care THAT much about height, i mean as long as they are average and not too short its alright. there are other things that we pay much more attention to.
  18. and what do they have to do with genes? are they gene activators? because i came upon an article that had a format similar to this. or could you just decode the meaning of this table. are the things listed (such as Tor2, mTor etc..) genes or kinases? thanks!!!! Table 1. Genes required for the autophagy and Cvt pathways Gene Mammalian homolog Characteristics Induction of autophagy and formation of autophagosome Kinase signaling system Tor2 mTor Rapamycin-sensitive protein kinase APG1 ULK1 SER or THR protein kinase APG6 BECN1 63-kD peripheral membrane protein etc.. or, if you would like to see the article for yourself, it is: Klionsky D, Emr S, Autophagy as a Regulated Pathway of Cellular Degradation Science, Dec 1, 2000 v290 15497, p1717
  19. they don't, its a thought experiment
  20. ok, i've never taken a physics class before and have NO basic knowledge, so i was reading a book that mentioned maxwell's demon and how he just made up that thought experiment. well how can ppl just make up an experiment when they have no experimental evidence to support it?
  21. anyone taken human geography? i signed up for it and have no idea what its about
  22. and is it THAT hard to get a 5? cuz the teachers @ my skool r always saying that if u just miss a couple questions it will drop u down 2 a 4.
  23. did u just enter in or did you enter in ISEF or some other kinda science fair that bought you in. cuz i know a guy that went there last year.
  24. whats the hardest AP course? i've heard chemistry was pretty hard. whats the easiest?
  25. Does anyone know some well characterized autophagy activation proteins? or any genes that activate/induce autophagy?
