  1. I realized that although certain ecological niches were dominated by Dinosaurs on the continents, the numerous small islands, no doubt many due to the increase volcanism, could open up those ecological niches to mammals. It could have been possible that for the 175MY reign of the Dinosaurs could have hosted many large mammals such as those of the Pleistocene after they went extinct.
  2. I wish there were a way to calculate the odds of an world in the Habitable Zone. Compared to exo systems known are solar system is tranquil and stable. If say, things turned out different and Earth was farther than Mars and Mars was were Earth is, we wouldn't have a habitable system.
  3. What I've realized, is that due to the small habitable zone around a red star, the chances of a world with liquid water around it would be equally small. Due to the size of an A or F class star, they would be mostly likely to host a world with liquid water; however, the shear number of red stars in space, means that most likely, more water worlds orbit a red star than any other type.
  4. I for one, hope Iran builds many nuclear reactors and gets them going in power plants. That would free up there other power sources, like oil, for export and give them a long-term power sources. Are they buildings a nuke, probably, will they use it? Probably not. They know what will happen if they do.
  5. It's all about ratings.
  6. The OP wants power to control is world. The best form of power is social power. The ability to lead and manipulate groups of people to your will. Take a public speaking class and read critical thinking books, Machiavelli and Sun Tzu. Then practice working with people. You mean you can't move objects with your mind? I thought everyone could.
  7. Astronomy is far out!!! Actually, Pluto is not the edge of our solar system. Beyond it is the Kepler belt, then the heliotrope and then the Oort sphere.
  8. It's possible. Blast debris from the KT impact could have ejected a Dinosaur Era Virus; only to have it hit Earth millions of years later. Permian bacteria have been brought back to life. An ancient Viruses would probably fall victim to more advance immune systems and the lack of a good host (after all, most of their hosts are extinct). Worried about Alien Viruses? Well, good news, material(besides light and radiation) from another star system running into earth is rare. You have a better chance of winning the lottery a hundred times in a row than that happening. Even if it did and it actually had alien microbes, most of which would die in our oxygen rich atmosphere or find their silicone base is not compatible with our carbon base.
  9. Jupiter needs a lot more mass to be close to being a Dwarf Star.
  10. What? No, "Slave-Labour Power" option? It built the Roman Empire. Solar is the best. Although Solar power is a finite resource*, it still has more potential than the others, which are also finite. *The Sun will burn out in about 5 billion years from now. Humans probably won't be using it then.
  11. Well look at the bright side. The Microwave Beam could also be used as a weapon; so any nation that operated it, would have more political weight along with energy...!!! Ok, I want to move past science fiction and concept, to reality. I've been thinking of starting a solar power company, but what if, what if I could actually build solar power plants on the Moon? I'm sure the costs are astronomical*, but, if the technology's there, or may be available at a time when I have the proper funding, this might be possible. *Literally
  12. Telekinesis is not mind control or being able to "Charm" people. It's simply moving physical objects with your mind. Like moving a chair or a person (yourself). Like so in the movie, Push.
  13. I watched a show on the NGC about colonizing the Moon last night. Then I realized before the mentioned it, if you networked solar power stations in a circle around the Moon, you could have a power grid that's always receiving solar energy and can be beamed back to Earth. The Moon does have the raw materials to construct solar panels. Now, do we currently have the technology to do this and can anyone guestimate cost vs. other energies?
  14. Then there's also the amount of resources need to travel to another star system and even more to attack it. It would be easier for them to "Alien-Form"(terraform) their uninhabitable worlds than to try to go to another star system to take another planet; even a planet that has microbes and environment similar to their own by some miracle of chance.
  15. Well, your planet sounds more like a Yin / Yang type world than a Gemini. I imagine a Gemini planet to be two plants of similar mass orbiting each other as that would appear more like a twin rather they night / day, black / white type of world. There's a few TV shows that depict life on a world tidally locked to a Red Dwarf star.
  16. I'm plagued by snow!!!
  17. Only one degree at best? One day, when I'm a famous science fiction writer, I'd hate to have that nitpicked out of my books.
  18. Darn, well, this should help. I just found it. http://www.stopforumspam.com/
  19. We're more likely to be genetically enhanced cyborgs than anything else.
  20. Hey, I just got back from biking when I posted that. I didn't proof read. My bike I got mail order from Acme products. Buy Acme products. I suspect the majority of spam bots are foreign. An IP check could confirm. But when you have to ban 100 a week. Soon, it will be 100 a day. And zombie computers are the worst. There's nothing like a virus that makes your computer a spamming machine. Back in the day, when I first started going to forums, there were less people with high-speed internet and more with dial-up internet. Also, forums were more popular before Myspace & Facebook came around. Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the US have control over the internet? That is, the US serves and a nexus hub for the world? If so, then the US could control the internet and end spamming.
  21. The only idea that sucks is one that hasn't been examined yet.
  22. I've noticed that too. Whoever wrote those spambot programs, doesn't have a good understanding of American English conversation. I read lots of newbie introductions; I can usually tell if it's a bot. Also, if you Google their screennames, you'll see them posting in several forums at about the same time. The war against Spam is an Arm's Race. The smarter a forum gets, so then the bots have to get smarter and so on. Sites like Craigslist, is plagued by bots. I can't post anything without getting a ton of fake replies that redirect me to sites. It's really hard to sell anything there. I'm also seeing the potential for spambots in marketing and politics. If one likes candidate X, then they can program spambots to mimic posters and post on forums, blogs, news sites etc., a few comments, but then steer them towards a favorable opinion of candidate X.
  23. Back in the late '90s, I read an article that you'd need to annihilate the mass of Jupiter to get enough energy to create a 3' worm hole.
  24. I came across this when I was reading, The Devil's Dictionary, which defined "Logic" as interpretations through misunderstanding or something similar to that. That human logic is not prefect. We are a species. Our understanding of the universe may be through our own mind's ability. That is, out brains, which evolved to problem solve on the plains of Southern Africa, are now analyzing logic and events, in which we have not evolved to do so. We may have to realize that there will be secrets to the universe, we will never be able to understand, like how the Big Bang occurred; how something came from nothing. Likewise, given my background in Anthropology, God seems to be a human invention. To answer the question, "What caused God", is simple. Humans created God to answer the questions in which they can not.

    iPad

IPad? That just doesn't sound right. I predict sales of this device will be disappointing for Apple.
