For example, rare though, the laser glass inside a DVD/VCD player which used to read the disc is broken, or the laser glass under the wireless mouse is broken due to heavy drop or accident. First, is it easy to happen? Second, are those chemicals used for laser sources hazardous? I know that laser beam cannot be created without exciting some atoms.

Hi all, I'd like to take this chance here to ask another question about radiation while not starting a new thread. 1. I learnt about frequency and wavelength in school, but I know that there is another common term used when talking about radiation - Dose. I know that it is about quantity, but what is it about from the physics point of view? More waves sent out under the same unit of space? 2. Does radiation of higher energy mean larger amplitude of the wave? 3. I learnt from school, but I forget, so what is the actual particle that is vibrating as a radiation wave? Is it electron? I am pretty sure that it wouldn't be air molecule, but what is that? 4. How man-made radiation is generated from its source?

Is it true that even for the router that emits the strongest signal, radiation emitted is very negligible that one may be exposed to more than that from the natural background? Could it emit a lot more than the safety limit if the router isn't well tested or manufactured by responsible providers?

Is it true that UV will break bonding of many substances which then in turn give out free radical that attack other bonding to create unstable intermediate? Will those free radical end up as a stable product one day or will they just keep colliding and giving more free radical which will never end?

How about the Sun? When will it burn to the end?

Approximately how long will it take for the earth to spin down to an extent that is going to affect human's life? Is there any estimation?
-
I have been looking for answers on Google but it looks like they are mostly personal and different opinions.... From my knowledge and experience, I agree that sunlight will have bleaching effect on clothes and garments but not dryer, but how about strength of the clothes? Does sunlight or heat from dryer weaken clothes more easily? It's said clothes dried by sunlight will last longer because they do not experience heat from dryer, however, I think the energy from sunlight is more damaging to the bonding of the textile of the clothes, isn't it? Which is correct? Last but not least, will clothes of the same textile but with white color last longer or break less easily because they do not absorb sunlight (white color) than that of the dark color (e.g. black absorbs heat)

I find that many toothpaste have expiry date, what is actually the chemical that will expire in a toothpaste?

Everything spinning will spin down if there is friction and no external power injecting to it, right? How about the earth? Is it theoretically spinning down? (Even if it may take a very long time) But there should not be any friction in the space right because there is no air, is it true?

Does sex have any relationship with the function of kidney?
kenny1999 replied to kenny1999's topic in Medical Science
I have reported you, troll. -
In the South East regions of China, there have been a saying or legend for long time that excessive sex or masturbation will cause harm to one's kidney and vice versa, someone with an unhealthy kidney will have sex problems. For many years, there are also all kinds of supplements here sold legally which are advertised to improve men's kidney health or sex health and the terms kidney and sex are often put together and they are not selling badly. For long, I really hope to be clear, if there is any relationship between sex health and kidney's health, from the medicine point of view?

I am not able to spend enough time and effort reading everything but I have read the title of your link. But why "Chinese women" is specified, do Chinese women have significant higher incidence of lung cancer when exposed to cooking oil fume? Can I have some conclusions about the study? I've read the conclusion but it's just a conclusion. By the way, is it useful to protect against cooking oil fumes by wearing medical mask used for COVID19?
-
It's said when cooking oil is heated on a pan and it starts to give fumes or smoke it is going to be toxic, does it apply to all cases (i.e. as soon as you see smoke or fume) or only extreme case when the cooking oil is heated for too long (e.g. when someone does not pay attention to cooking)

1. Are all possible (or common) impurities mixed with gold jewelry magnetic? 2. If the impurities are wrapped by the pure gold, would it still be attracted to the magnet? 3. If the content of impurities isn't really high, (but the jewelry is not as pure as 24K gold) will it still attract to the magnet?
-
Without any professional device, is there any way to have a test or wild guess on whether a piece of gold jewelry is made of pure gold (i.e. 24K) with little or no impurities? And how reliable will that be?

You have full head of hair at your age, then you are not someone who can feel me because you don't have this genetics. I am in my 30 and I have hard time making my life decision whether I should start taking it forever or never take it. I know Finasteride isn't a cure. But how about impotence? If I take it for a few years and experience impotence, can it be cured?
-
Impotence is a known risk of taking 1mg Finasteride for curing male pattern hair loss but it's said chance is low. I asked doctor, he said it's possible, no comment on high or low risk. However, according to the health information provided officially here in my country they use the term "common" side effects for Finasteride. My understanding about "common" is that chance isn't low, at least. According to the instruction, it's about 2% if I do not remember incorrectly. In fact, how risky is 1mg Finasteride daily?

I was a patient of a good doctor and he was in fact a specialist in his area. He told me that if I was worried about x-ray I should not eat anything or go outside because many food was already contaminated by radiation and there is more radiation we are exposed to every day than taking a few x-ray. His comparison made me feel relieved about the x-ray anxiety.

Is breaking of garbage plastic product into microplastics by weathering a physical or chemical process or both? It's said when plastic bottle contains any liquid microplastics will leach into it, what is the reason for this? Isn't plastic usually inert to most substances?

How does a bank usually calculate interest for their customers?
kenny1999 replied to kenny1999's topic in Mathematics
Lowest balance of the day? That sounds make sense. Any other kinds of calculation commonly used by bank? -
Simple interest, compound interest, which are not difficult for most people. It is simple because the principal amount is usually fixed in calculations. In reality, the amount will change over time (i.e. customers may deposit or withdraw money from their account at any time). How does a bank usually calculate interest for their customers when the principal amount changes over time? Is there any such formula?

There are possible up to hundreds of thousand drugs used in medicine, then there are just too many combinations between two drugs. Do they test each new drug with hundreds of thousands of other approved drugs before introducing the new drug to the market? How about three or more drugs? I mean it's not uncommon that a patient may be taking more than one drug because they may have a lot of diseases. How do they know if the new drug will not have problem when it is used together with possibly two or more drugs? For example, drug A + drug B + drug C or even with drug D or more. There are just countless combinations.
