  1. No, they certainly do fit that definition. However, history, language, traditions (include those of food), and myths, can all be included in the "religion" category.
  2. AgentChange, thats true, certain sects might lean more towards Jewish Law in that sense, while others might be more... open. and Dr. DNA. I have to say, that although I understand why you and many others may feel that "Jews" are an ethnicity, you must realize that there are Jews born all over the world! You could say that they all started out in the same area: Middle East/Mediterranean, but there have been hundreds, if not thousands of years of splitting apart and migration. So personally, I think that calling "jews" an ethnicity is silly. However, there are plenty of people out there who think otherwise. But I would like to add, the people on this site are very open. and that makes it easy. Ive had this conversation with some other people in my dorm hall last year... and well, most people are quite close-minded. So thank you Dr.DNA, for actually looking up the info *ahem* back to the topic
  3. Yes, very interesting. I'd like to see them put a bunch together, so we can see it,.
  4. Ah, you've destroyed my psychological health by correcting me! Anyways, I didnt know about all those studies. However, that is not to say that girls cannot play with cars - because as I said, they would play with them in a different fashion (well, I said "they may pretend in a different manner"). Instead of racing and crashing, they would be taking mommy to work or something. As far as the tribes people are concerned... where was the story published? Its not that I dont trust you, but I would like to possibly read it, or at least know where it was published.
  5. wow, ok. I dont like when people say this (my parents were Jewish, however, Ive gone the ways of secularism - atheist) (I Know this doesnt answer the OP question) I would just like to say, that view is a Jewish view. In other words, ask someone who is Jewish and they will tell you this is true. Ask someone else, and they might say its true, but only because they've heard it from someone who was Jewish. Judaism is not genetic!!! Just because you mother is Jewish does not automatically make you Jewish! If you are not taught it, then you do not follow it, and thus, are not Jewish. Furthermore, one may decide to convert to Judaism.

    Salt and Water

um, yeah. Why would I use that? thanks I wonder if the size of the salt will matter? using a finer salt, or large crystals?

    Salt and Water

ah gotcha. but would it work in practice? For example, I talked to my friend who works Grounds here at the university. and they use shovel-like tools to get ride of the ice, but they also have a propane torch (more like a flamethrower, lol). And he said that he's melted the ice, only to have it freeze a few minutes later. So I suggested he add salt to the water. But will it really work if its say 15º out? (that is to say, can the salt reduce the freezing temperature by 15º+?) thanks
  8. Dr. Evil, while I can sort of agree with what you said, when you say "boys play with cars and girls play with dolls" realize that almost always has to do with how the child is brought up. If the parents want their boy to be "masculine" then they'll give him GI Joes, Cars, and things like that. Same with girls. However, you can give a girl a car to play with at a young age, and they most likely will. They may pretend in a different manner, but by no means when we are children we say "Well mother, I am a boy, therefore I believe you should give me this car to play with" - its all gender roles.

    Salt and Water

Now, correct me if Im wrong. but I believe salt water freezes at a lower temperature than regular water (fresh water). If this is true, I was wondering why.
  10. ahha, so a grape IS a berry
  11. Thanks for all the replies! So, it seems the general consensus is that no, other animals cannot commit suicide - except for perhaps whales beaching themselves, which, however, could be for a variety of reasons. and someone else mentioned ants... but what they mentioned was more like it was commanded by other ants... hmm. and yes, I dont think Bees count, its not like the bee said "gee, Im glad my stinger will rip off part of my body when I sting something" lol
  12. yup! Ive been on, and am on multiple forums. Including my hobbies. interests. and gaming. I can say, that out of all of them, there have been TWO forums that had more women then men were: 1) 'The Sims' forum 2) Jewelery and Gemstones forum other than that they've all had many more men than women. and remember, this is 2 out of about 9 (including those I no longer visit)
  13. Just some confirmation, but I believe humans are the only animals that can/do commit suicide? I dont believe any other animal or plant for that matter kills it self?
  14. I agree. and it looks like the Risperdal is the suspect.
  15. Random thought I had today, when I purchased a pack of berry gummies; grape wasnt in there! Why not? Isnt it essentially the same thing as any other berry - but I dont believe its considered one.
  16. I dont think thats so weird. We have a hypnotist come to our school every year to put on a show. I havent gone yet, but I've heard its enjoyable (assuming you believe in it, lol).
  17. Currently Im enrolled in college here in AZ. I also went to a private high school. however, I will say that my math skills would not have been adequate had I chosen a math-intensive field. 7-8th grade is what really ruined math (the way it was taught, and how the class was conducted) - then in HS I continued to move up the chain, even though I should not have. Science however, yes luckily though, my major is/are Psychology and Sociology. So I really only needed statistics (which Im good at).
  18. lol wow. I'll be 20 in a week...
  19. I disagree 100%. I dont think Religion is "built in" - however, I do think that it is inevitable at the early stages of evolution because humans cannot comprehend everything, and thus supernatural powers/beings and magic comes into play. For example, if lightning strikes someone, people way back when werent going to say "well this is just a natrual phenomenon and he was unlucky to get hit" no, they would say "he was a bad person and deserved it" or "God (or other being) was angry with him" by no means is religion "built in" to the human brain. Its a learned phenomenon.
  20. as stated before, masturbation and touching at this age is normal - its all about the exploration of their bodies. Also, the fact that she used the world "deepthroat" when discussing toddlers is... odd... I too would be concerned about her mental health as well, lol.
  21. Heh, yes I know. I was saying its a Social Science because it is, and at times it may not be as easy to measure things, as opposed to physics or chemistry.
  22. well, it is a Social Science...
  23. I talked to people who did it as well - in reality it lasts 10+ minutes, but the perception of those who take it say it feels only like 5 minutes or less.
  24. yeah. Salvia will achieve the same results, a short hallucinogenic experience - roughly 20-30 minutes - but this is probably cheaper. edit: according to Wikipedia, its not as mainstream as some might believe it to be (based on the original article)
  25. Interesting. I'd say I have an interest in that as well, but not nearly as much as the 3 I listed earlier.
