    magnet question

    what about copper?
  2. Yup. It was pretty fun, and fast to build. the best part is definitely the remote, so I can turn it on from outside my dorm - hehehe. we also added a toggle to the computer power supply - since it didnt come with one originally.
  3. First, whats it called when your brakes fail from too much heat? Second, how does this happen? Why does excessive heat cause the brakes to fail to put enough pressure on the disks? thanks

    water level

ah ok. I was just thinking, since ice forms crystals and creates little air pockets, that the amount put in the glass wouldnt be the same when it melts. but its so little that its not even measurable, I suppose
  5. I figure this would be the place to share it. We didnt actually build the table, I bought it from Ikea. Its green plastic top with clear legs. and this is what we did. green cold cathode tubs. the the circular ones came on a computer fan power supply we used first we tried the 12v 1amp, didnt work too well after a while. so we just used this computer one. haha we added in a remote the underside the underside turned on. I'll be taking it up to my dorm this Fall

    water level

wont the water level go up- when the cube is put in, and then when it melts, go down slightly?
  7. hmm, thank you. and sorry for the misunderstanding, but: you dont swirl the tube, you put a stationary object in the begining of the tube to swirl the air. I should have made that more clear. maybe this would help with some difficulties.
  8. hmm. Im not sure myself! im trying to picture it, and it would seem as though that the vortex tube's air would flow easier. maybe not faster, but easier. (?)
  9. Just a simple question. Say we have 2 tubes. Air goes through a normal tube at a certain rate. Then we have another one, with a device to create a vortex - and the air goes through it at the same rate. Will air in the one with the vortex go faster [in the tube]? and Will it go through more smoothly? thank you
  10. ^ thanks to all the computer parts collecters: do you have any pictures, or could you, by any chance, get some? thx
  11. it sure does. But thats what you DONT want people to think, however cool it is.
  12. hah, yeah, but it would give people an idea of what it looks like. Ya dont want people thinking mad scientist with a bunch of colorful bubbling chemicals. Maybe i can do something with the chem lab. - get some pics there. but yeah, no problem, i understand - and good luck with your [soon to be(?)] move.
  13. wow, thanks alot guys. i was wondering if some of you would be willing to post pictures? In particular YT for his chemicals and Mokele for his preserved specimens. thanks. ~Mag
  14. hey there. Im doing a project about collecting and psychology. So i had a few questions to ask that would help. What do you collect? Why do you collect (how did it start)? What makes you keep adding to your collection? (the big question is WHy and How - so if you could answer those in more detail that'd be great) thanks much
  15. ah, thank you very much - very informative
  16. is it also possible to have a constant growth rate, and then a jump? just wondering ~Mag
  17. Whats the word when two tree limbs fuse together? And why does it happen? A small tree in front of my house has this, where it seems two tree limbs got too close together and became sort of one. Both are fully grown, but where they touch there is a lump of wood surrounding it. I can get a pic if you need. thanks

    License

That's right kiddies, i finally got my driver's license. Ah *relieved* after 14 months of a driver's permit, i now have my license. (Got my license Aug 01) In case you were wondering, i drive a 1995 Buick Park Avenue (beige).
  19. well, you could go out in a storm, or when its cloudy out and such. I bet it would only take a few times go out in such weather, until you "realized" that there was nothing to be scared of. Also, when i was talking to my psychology teacher last year, i told him i wa scared of bee's and wasps and other things that fly and sting. He said it wasnt really a fear, because it can cause pain. But similarly, my fright of bees is exaggerated. I would say the same thing about yours - except that in this case it seems to be very exaggerated, Anyways, good luck, i hope you find something that works.
  20. i just saw a commercial for one of these... pretty nifty. you should definitely do it
