yes thats true but unless the people reading are chat room regulars they likely haven't had much contact with gilded.

NSFW warning on that link btw

no, a divided cell is where the electrodes would be in different vessels or buckets in your case with an ion bridge between them.

try sticking to accepted science in the non speculation forums then.

exactly. i'm pretty sure thats who ghost sightings develop over time. i've had something of a similar experience myself but on analyse the experience myself, it is more probable that it was a simple hallucination followed by my brain retroactively modify the memory. i was half asleep at the time it occured which makes hallucination/residual dreaming likely. i was going to the kitchen, glanced along the hall and thought i seen a skeleton just standing there. obviously there wasn't and there was a door with glass at the end with reflections so its possible my brain just recognized thereflections as being similar to a skeletal figure and my brain changed the memory so it was a full skeleton. needless to say i was wide awake after that.

that and we are also primed to see what we expect to see under certain circumstances. not only that but we're good a retroactively editing our memories. say someone is staying in a hotel and sees a 'ghost'. this person then learns that a woman died in that hotel near the location where he saw the ghost a century ago. now the ghost is in his memory as female and wearing outdated clothes. there are many cases of a ghost story progressing like this over time.

the knife crime is really just a symptom of deeper social problems. the government seems to recognise this but doesn't seem to be doing anything to treat the cause. they are handling it wrong and i suspect that they know they're handling it wrong but they aren't doing anything to rectify it.

what's the fastest method to heat water?
insane_alien replied to olweiser's topic in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
well, theoretically you can put 67kW into 0.25l of water through ~30cm^2 of hose but it is impossible to do practically. the energy requirements alone really are too big to do domestically, especially with renewable energy sources. we need all the information you can give us about this before we can say if it is posible or not. -
sisyphus, its not about kitcken utensils being weilded as such, its about the neds and chavs carrying around everything from kitchen knifes to machetes and stabbing each other with it. personall, i see nothing wrong with scouts having a knife since they tend to be responsible about it and not go around using it to threaten people. but knife crime is a big problem. in glasgow and paisely there is definitely large problem. you can't really go out a night and NOT see two idiots threatening each other with bladed weaponry.

Black holes and the Big Bang: A Theory
insane_alien replied to jablan's topic in Modern and Theoretical Physics
we aren't talking about two dimensional flat. but talking about a similar scenario for higher geometries. this is common in mathematical constructs as it prevents you having to invent a new word for flat for every dimension. by calling the universe flat we mean that there is no large scale distortion of it. -
iNow, well, it is an unprecedented change in biology. we have no idea what sort of mutation it would take. so the timescale to pick up that particular trait may indeed be larger than the time our species has been around.

you mean the 4-vector for velocity? its always constant in magnitude, it can only change direction. handled nicely by general relativity. input the data into its equations and you'll get your answer.

i suppose thats the one goot thing about the reputation system. only those with good reputation can have any real effect and are less likely to abuse the system.

what's the fastest method to heat water?
insane_alien replied to olweiser's topic in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
well, the ones you linked to would be more than adequate for keeping an insulated tank of water hot. so assuming that you don't need a constant flow of 0.25l/s for an extended period of time then you can do it in batches with those. again, we'd need more information on the usage scenaro to know if this is appropriate though. -
Quasars show range of Luminosities ?
insane_alien replied to Widdekind's topic in Astronomy and Cosmology
so your conlusion is that different quasars have different luminosities? well who'd have thunk it. i'd be far more astounded if they had identical luminosities because thats something you wouldn't expect. -
Michael Moore's New Movie Concludes: "Capitalism is Evil"
insane_alien replied to Pangloss's topic in Politics
i wouldn't call it evil, but pure capitalism or pure communism are not good situations to be in and will be unstable. a little mix of both works better than either. -
Are Poincare and Lorentz the originators of relativity...
insane_alien replied to dr.syntax's topic in The Lounge
einstein wasn't perfect, we know this. einstein used the work of others, we know this also. einstein was glorified by the media more than his contempories, yep we know. there were others at the time who were arguably more deserving of such attention, also known. this does not mean he was a plagiarist. or that he didn't discover anything. or even that he wasn't deserving of praise. when is it going to get through to you? -
no, i constantly do that to your claim that you are being targeted by highly experimental weaponry and based on this claim that you may suffer from paranoia which can be indicative of a deeper problem. i suggested that you seek proffesional advice about that as it really will help. there is a difference between skepticism and closed mindedness

no, it won't cause static buildup. and they are not common otherwise we'd have found them long ago. it is incredibly unlikely that you have magnetic monopoles in your house(unless your air conditioning goes down below 2K)

you're obviously missing a few receptors around your humour gland.

they cannot detect lying. they can detect changes in bloodflow to your face, this could be caused by lying, or you getting a hot flush. the pattern will be the same. as the blood vessels do not change position depending on what your thinking about. i don't know what the hell your links have got to do with this. but i do like that the second one is based on a peer reviewed journal and then you tell us not to look there. contradict yourself much?

your drive sounds like its failed(partially if you can still read) i'm not sure how easy it is to replace a cddrive on a mac.

so... where does the extra 4600km^3 per year come from? and this is 2.53*10^16 kg we're talking about here. no insignificant amount of material. infact, this is ~4.23*10^-9 of the earths mass. PER YEAR. like it or not this would have a HUGE effect on sattelites. on the good side, it means space junk is not an issue. it also means that the earth had a size of zero ~240 million years ago. this is at odds with well, all known data. seriously, stop bringing up the kooks. we're tired of it. everytime we shoot it down you bring up another idiot claiming to be a professional(with no reputable published works) and they come at it from a slightly different angle. the earth is not expanding the way it is presented there. earth should be buried in debris stuff from 1000 years ago should be 18 meters underground. thats another point, all these earth expansion nutjobs seem to think the earth is expanding FROM THE INSIDE. how. how does the mass get through the crust without us knowing? sure, if the earth was impacted by a 10km diameter asteroid each year that penetrated the crust while causing negligble damage to the surface fine. but this is not a likely, nor real, scenario. face it. these guys are lying and almost universally trying to sell a book 'that reveals the hidden conspiracy in science' seriously. its a crock. its fiction peddled as fact.
