Black holes and the Big Bang: A Theory
insane_alien replied to jablan's topic in Modern and Theoretical Physics
or maybe you should realise that an analogy is never intended to explain a whole theory. just get the jist across with minimal technicalities. there is no need for space to be flat either. although it does actually appear to be so as determined by experimentation. of course, due to intrinsic errors in the measurements there is also the possibility that it is curved either positively or negatively too but either way its not going to be a severe curvature and for all intents and purposes would be condsidered flat. -
the colours(if there are any on the particular camera) are artificial. usually they correspond to temperature. has bugger all to do with emotions or telepathy though.

not everybody is created equal(regardless of what the huggy-feely crowd want you to think) is how. some people naturally have a higher tolerance for pain than others and some will have built up a tolerance for pain over time. they'll still feel pain, their brain is just able to override the signal and function unperturbed until the pain signal is higher. regardless of this, somethings will hurt everyone equaly, such as stubbing your toe, standing on lego and paper cuts.

what's the fastest method to heat water?
insane_alien replied to olweiser's topic in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
that isn't going to do 0.25l/s from 6-70*C unless it is over 100m^2 though. probably close to 180-200m^2 and even then only when in direct nearly perpendicular sunlight. not really something you can have in your back yard. -
typically if someone has something to say on a subject they will open a thread on it. it is not the most challenging of things to do and is pretty much the bare minimum effort required to post on a forum. they don't need someone with no interest in the topic opening it for them.

Are Poincare and Lorentz the originators of relativity...
insane_alien replied to dr.syntax's topic in The Lounge
he gets credit because neither poincare or lorentz discovered special and general relativity. the discovered the precursors that allowed einstein to formulate relativity. just because the person who invented the brick made the precursor to all brick buildings does not mean he built all brick buildings. it just means he invented the brick. the people who actually built the buildings built the buildings. -
why does fox news seem to be pumping out more raw sewage as 'news' than usual? seriously, it sounds as if someone up the line has decided to use some guy on a REALLY bad acid trip as a filter between them and the actual story. maybe its just because i'm in the UK and hence distanced from the crap they call 'news'

Are Poincare and Lorentz the originators of relativity...
insane_alien replied to dr.syntax's topic in The Lounge
so to sum up... einstein, like EVERY other scientist was building upon the work of others before him. the only reason he is famous is that he had the precursors available to make a relatively(no pun intended) large change to the physics landscape with a relatively simple jump in understanding. much the same thing as gallileo realising all objects fall at the same speed regardless of mass. -
shadow, take your web cam, bring up the screen to display the cameras output, point camera at screen, ????, profit!

a corridor same as you would if you just used the one camera.

How can ATP release energy when converted to ADP?
insane_alien replied to mahela007's topic in Biology
umm, skye are you sure? breaking bonds typically uses up energy and forming bonds releases energy. this is because the bound stat is at a lower energy level than the unbound state. -
you could do it with a magnetic field in theory. but the magnetic field needs to be tremendously huge. on a scale so far only observed around neutron stars and pulsars. you'd have to put in many many many many many orders of magnitude more energy in than you'd possibly be able to get out of it so using it to store energy is a crap idea.

the atmosphere doesn't trick us. it scatters blue light more than red light so we see blue. the matter you claim isn't there is called 'air' you may have heard of this substance. perhaps even come into direct contact with it. it is also observable that if you increase your altitude the sky will get less blue as there is less air above you. the blue colour is real, you need to be a moron who doesn't count evidence as having much relevance either way to say otherwise.

the force involved in pushing someone is the electromagnetic force. specifically electrostatic repulsion of the electrons in your respective bodies. as the force is electromagentic, the force carrier exchanged is a photon(or rather lots of photons unless it was a particularly feeble push ).

Is color one wave of light or many waves together?

well, iNow has posted links for me. if you don't trust wikipedia too much then look at the references on those pages. -
Is color one wave of light or many waves together?
insane_alien replied to seriously disabled's topic in Physics
actually whit would need to be composed of red green and blue. this evidenced by the screen you're looking at right now. one that used yellow instead of red would not be able to display red or even orange. magenta would also be out of the question. this is due to the fact that humans have only three different types of colour detecting cells(okay, some people have a mutation which gives them a 4th that does yellow but they're few and far between) one for red one for green and one for blue. this is why you can make the whole visible spectrum(more or less) with only three colours. otherwise we'd need some sort of variable wavelength emitter for tv screens -
not to mention the horrendous signal to noise ratio. beyond a few centimeters from the skull the signal would be lost to interference. this is why with EEG and MEG scans they need to shave your head and put the sensorstight against the skin.

what's the fastest method to heat water?
insane_alien replied to olweiser's topic in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
none of those would be practical. and getting 67kW out of your mains isn't hopeful either. you're going to have to use some sort of combustion reaction to generate the heat. this means either coal, oil, gas or wood. and you'll definitely need more than 10cm of rubber hose to do it. a coil of copper pipe would be good. -
no it is not. anhydrous alchol means an alcohol without any water in it. isopropyl alcohol is a specific isomer of an alcohol wit three carbon atoms.

The Black Hole Theory has a couple holes...

wo siad blackholes were a portal? this isn't accepted scientific theory. -

thats going to be roughly 67kW you need. you'll need more than 10cm of hose to do that. and what are you wanting to heat it up with if not electricity or gas? is coal or oil a possibility? -
bascule, wouldn't like that either. it still has direct access to my mind.

so you have 0.25 litres per second. and a surface area of ~31cm^2 what temperature does it start off at roughly? and remember degrees by itself is a unit of angle, not temperature. i wouldn't go on about it but it can be confusing for people whos first language isn't english. try using *C its explicit and easily understandable.
