  1. read the link. its all about looking at the magnetic field of the mind. the body itself does not have a static magnetic field. only a varying one due to currents in the nervous system which are very very tiny and have a correspondingly tiny magnetic field.
  2. you'd have to find out how much current is in the nerve first. and there will only be a miniscule magnetic field when the nerve is active. according to this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnetoencephalography magnetic fields are on the order of 10^-15 T (1fT) the earths magnetic field is 10 orders of magnitude greater than this.
  3. its not quite. E=mc^2 is a special case of a slightly more complex equation and only applies when an object is at rest. but your definitions are correct.
  4. photons are massless. this odes not mean that are undetectable as they still have energy and momentum.
  5. i wouldn't take any physics advice from sananda s/he has not shown anything resembling even basic knowledge.
  6. i didn't intend to be condesending. by using the word obvious i was meaning 'easily observable' as the tyre typically moves slowly enough to be seen clearly rather than just a blur. as to the top of the wheel moving faster than the vehicle over all, the 'back' part of the wheel has to rotate to the front. in order to do this it must go faster than the vehicle itself. the top rim has to rotate at the same relative velocity to the axle as the bottom rim so the top gets to wice the speed of the axle relative to the ground.
  7. there are problems with writing to a block and technically they have not been addressed but the speed has increased so much that even with a handicap it is still faster than a platter based drive. there are still concerns with the limited number of times you can write to a block before it fails but this is compensated with more advanced wear-levelling algorithms
  8. that site seems to require an application to run. firefox reports it as unknown
  9. yes, that is exactly what it means. how did you think wheels worked? it is very obvious when things are moving slowly(say a bicycle) so why would it be different when it is faster? also, if the wheels were slipping you'd get tyre squeal everytime you went fast and it'd be very very noisy.
  10. i don't think we'll see integrated SSD's (although asus sold a motherboard with a version of linux installed in precisely that manner) appearing in very great numbers. the chips take up quite a bit of space needed for other things. i think they'll continue to be found as discreet drives (maybe with a token amount of storage space on the motherboard)
  11. JohnB does have a point there. the CMB is light and it was the first thing in the universe before there was any matter and hence stellar objects.
  12. red and blue gives you magenta swansont. thought you were one of those physics experts.
  13. seems to me that a the rate they're going down in price they'll overtake conventional disks in price per capacity. although that may be mainly due to lots of prerequisites lying around (small fabrication processes for the circuitry from processors and such) and when they catch up on those it'll slow down.
  14. the only way you can do that is to be massless. this poses a problem as human cannot be massless.
  15. 1/ it'll settle down eventually. when? dnot sure. 2/ hardrives are cheap and tend to have more capacity while being almost equally reliable. you can get a few terabytes for the same price as a 256GB flashdrive.
  16. nope, the only radiation you are going to get is a blackbody emmission spectra of photons. to determine whether this penetrates a barrier or not depends on the barrier.
  17. Melvin, 0.01M would be enough. you don't need something that concentrated. just depends on how quickly you need it to happen. if time isn't an issue then 0 electrolyte is needed.
  18. its hard to implement change when your $11trillion in debt and there is a global recession on.
  19. well if the barrier is hotter than the surroundings then you can be sure there is a heat source beyond it. if there is an area of the barrier that is hotter than the rest then you can localise it somewhat. but thats the best you can do.
  20. i assume you mean algae? as long as there's sunlight and some nutrients it should grow. its actually quite difficult to make it not grow.
  21. well, they're not exactly the same thing but they use the same principles.
  22. sodium hydroxide solution can cause chemical burns but only at high concentrations. you only need a little bit for this and you can always keep the water topped up with distilled water to keep the concentration low. if you get any of the solution on you rinse your hand under the cold tap. if you get some solid sodium hydroxide on you then vinegar will be a better choice to put on yor hand before rinsing. wear gloves and eye protection. if usuing salt you'd want to do it outside and let the chlorine dissipate int othe atmosphere rather than trying to contain it.
  23. sodium hydroxide (lye) is a good one. it does under go electrolysis but oxygen is released where it should be and the sodium immediately reacts with the water to form more sodium hydroxide and hydrogen. you can use table salt, but you'd need to wait till it stopped producing chlorine (ie, when all that is left is sodiun hydroxide and the chlorine has escaped from the system). it all depends on how pure you need it.
  24. its part of the operating system and its a standardised thing. for example(these are not the real codes) if the a key is 01011101 then all keyboards will send 01011101 when it is pressed. the computer will have a character map that tells it that 01011101 is a. however, if you replace the character map so that 01011101 is interpreted as b then the computer thinks that your a key is actualy a b. it doesn't need to see it.
  25. the meta material has a negative refractive index. it also acts as a wave guide. while in the meta material the soundwaves actually travel faster than the waves outside so when the exit the meta material they look exactly the same as when the enter. i don't know the exact physics of it but thats the jist of it.
