well all ice is is the solid form of water (and there are several different types of ice depending on crystal structure). so yes, something compressed to the point of being a solid is an ice. a fork is made of iron ice(fair enough with some carbon impurity, but still.). with the hydrothermal vents you have super critical water. the phases of gas and liquid are no longer distinct and hence have no meaning. it is a super critical fluod then. the same phenomenon has not been observed between solids and liquids. and for the record, its not a dumb question. it's actually quite a good one as it doesn't follow everyday experience.

no its not possible. it is true that it would repel the earths field(and they do that already) but there is one major problem. super condctors don't float. if it were possible for them to float on the earths magnetic field then they'd do so already. we do know why the don't float though. the earths magnetic field is weak. very very weak. effectively what you are asking is that we build a boat made from solid lead(no hollow hull). sure, when you put it in water there will be just as much buoyant force as there would be with any other material, but its too heavy to be supported by it and it'll sink like a brick. faster than a brick even. it also wouldn't repel other objects in space unless they had a very strong magnetic field. and the super conductor will be repelled just as much as the other object is.

mokele, it is precisely because we are the only example of 'intelligence' that the machine intelligence would strive to better itself. since all we have to go on is ourselves then it is very likely that a lot of the processes that need to happen for there to be an intelligence of some kind will be copied from us. and hence give the computer monkey like qualities. however, this is not to say that the monkey parts won't be discarded in the process of the intelligence improving itself. but initially it would not surprise me if it was human/monkey like.

i hope you realise that there are different levels of technology. it wasn't so many thousands of years ago that stripping bark off sticks and chucking rocks at each other was our frontier of technology. just because technology is less advanced than our own does not mean that it is not technology.
