  1. please don't use blue text and a crap font, it makes your post hard to read. if vaccinations caused cancer in any significant amount we would have seen it by now, and also the diseases the vaccines prevent would also cause cancer. a vaccine is just a weakened version of the disease in saline with some preservatives. there is nothing special about it and it has all undergone intensive studies to make sure it doesn't cause harm. what you have probably heard is FUD(fear, uncertainty and doubt) from anti-vaccine proponents who have claimed everything from vaccines being nazi mind control schemes to space lizards attempts to sterilize the population of earth to allow for a bloodless invasion.
  2. i'm not sure, i've done that experiment and x-rays were not used at all. the charge came from friction with the atomizer like how you can charge a plastic rod using a cloth. i have never actually heard of it being done with x-rays.
  3. seems a crap armageddon virus, you'd want an airborne highly virulent virus that doesn't show any significant symptoms for perhaps aweek or two THEN kills you quickly. this gives it plenty of time to spread unnoticed and by the time it is, its too late.
  4. simple, they hit the other molecule. specifically the electrons of said molecule/atom. the xray photon has sufficient energy to eject the electron from its orbital, much like if i stuck a cattleprod into you you'd jump out of your comfy chair. this is ionization.
  5. higher wave ratio? you do realise that everything is generally treated as waves in QM right? there isn't really a distinction when you get to the nitty gritty so it's alreaady 100% wave. not sure how you can increase the ratio when it is already 1:0 or infinity to 1 if you want to think of it that way.

  7. as long as you aren't eating them or covering yourself in them when you go to sleep you'll be fine. yes, methanol is toxic, but it still requires a fair amount to do any damage. you could probably ingest all the methanol in the pack and not suffer any illness. not saying i recommending doing it though. if you did that on a regular basis it probably would lead to some symptoms.
  8. dude, its a film. a few bullets going awry is the least of the physical impossibilities represented in it. every movie has plot holes, inconsistencies and stuff that would never happen in real life.
  9. that still requires a physical standard which is what we want to avoid. we want to get away from defining units on a certain amount of a particular substance under certain conditions. and your definition only applies at 2 specific temperatures, anything other than these and it is wrong.
  10. assuming it is standard for a super nova, the total energy recieved will be approximately equal to 10 minutes of noon sunshine. however, the even will last much longer than 10 minutes so that'll be spread over a few weeks. this is counting energy carried by particle radiation as well which will probably take a few centuries more to hit.
  11. Martin deemed you posts to be offtopic enough to warrant their own thread. your posts start off the thread and are the sole reason for this threads existance, not that it matters as within 24 hours it will no longer be active and as such, slightly more useful.
  12. your early days maybe.
  13. it tells us that dark matter can produce results similar to what we observe. as for prrof of its existance, they used gravitational lensing to map out the distribution of mass in a volume of space and seen how it corresponded to visible matter in that volume. it didn't correspond at all and the map gives a big cloudy appearance like it would be if it was darkmatter.
  14. only if enough mass was added to turn the earth into degenerate matter. unless you're adding a neutron star or blackhole your not going to make the earth smaller.
  15. yeah, thats a good analogy. although the ar molecules aren't as ordered as a traffic jam. perhaps if you relplace the traffic jam with a crowd you're trying to run through it would be a bit closer. then again, its an analogy isn't really meant to be an accurate representation.
  16. the earth was lighter before the formation of the moon(assuming the impactor theory is correct) so the gravitational field would have been less not more. but the difference is small enough that it wouldn't have made much difference. if the gravitational field was stronger, atmospheric pressure would be slightly greater and mountains wouldn't be quite as tall and the opposite would be true if the gravitational field was less. thats about it.
  17. from personal experience, 99.99% of the time sticking something up your nose doesn't help. the only known exception is nasal sprays.
  18. from the wikipedia page on the ampere http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ampere a columb is the electric charge that passes through a wire in one second with a current of 1 amp. edit: dammit got ninja'd
  19. you could always dig a well in your garden if you don't want fluorinated water.
  20. the anti fluoride proponents often remind me of this: http://www.todaysbigthing.com/2008/08/04
  21. you are not everyone, and while i doubt the veracity of your claim my point still stands that you are not everyone. just because you find a subject comes naturally does not mean that this is the same for everyone. i have a love of chemistry and the subject comes easily to me but i know this is not true for many people even those who pick chemistry to study in university. so you would deny people knowledge because they do not know the precursors necessary to understand a subject? i personally find this incredibly distasteful. everyone has a right to knowledge. if they do not possess the knowledge to fully understand the concept i will simplify it down to a level where they can understand the basics behind it and point them in the direction of resources where they can learn the precursors necessary to fully appreciate the concept. should we ban those who cannot paint masterpieces from art galleries? should we ban those who cannot play an instrument from musical concerts and buying CD's? should we ban those who cannot write novels from reading? everyone has a right to know.
  22. possible? yes. likely? about as likely as osama bin laden being found hiding out as oprah
  23. the whole point o f speculation is to come up with an idea and explore the implications of that idea and do preliminary testing(internal consistency, rough scrutinization against preexisting data etc.) if its good we get a hypothesis and further exploration and testing can begin, if not it is discarded.
