because it is expected that you would at least have performed a cursory google search for simple questions. either google or wikipedia would be more than adequate for 99% of the posts you have made.

yeah, i get bouts of insomnia from time to time and it is difficult. you can't tell whats what and if you've been up for long enough you can hallucinate. there is nothing good about it. no we can't train ourselves not to need sleep.

do you not have a manual for it? i got one the last time i bought a premade PC (okay, that was 1998 things may have changed) try looking in the BIOS. if its not listed there then your computer must be the most generic 'el cheapo' brand motherboard ever produced.

who makes your motherboard? go to that company. CPU's don't need drivers(otherwise it would be impossible to start up a computer) so the AMD driver pack would be looking for other components produced by AMD, which you evidently have none of.

Particle physics - why bother?
insane_alien replied to Kaeroll's topic in Modern and Theoretical Physics
we don't know what possible applications could be. using your gps example, how long after relativity was discovered did applications spring up? just because we can't find applications immediately does not mean that there will never be applications. who knows, we might find out what makes gravity taick and a way to produce artificial gravity for long space missions(i'll admit thats a bit far out) or a cheap way of creating antimatter for energy storage(less far out). we'll need to wait a few decades to find applications of current high energy particle physics but i doubt there will be absolutely none. -
you'll be unbanned at 8.45pm BST when i've bugered off to go watch the episode of lost you spoiled for me. and then the third part of reddwarf.

the lowest one i can think of is mercury oxide which is done at 500*C. this will result in copious amounts of gaseous mercury so probably isn't the best home experiment even with proper ventilation. so your probably going to be looking at either lead or tin for the lower temperature smelting. if you own an oxy-acetylene welding(or cutting) torch then it is possible to reach 1200*C easily.

there isn't one as darkness is not an entity but the absence of an entity.

lol. so is sugar. so is bleach. so is fertiliser. so is well, pretty much any substance can be transformed into an explosive material when comined with the right substances. sulphur is also a very very useful chemical in terms of home chemistry. making sulphuric acid from scratch is a good experiment to try. sounds like you have a bad case of chemophobia.

waters relationship to life
insane_alien replied to wade.daniel.w's topic in Evolution, Morphology and Exobiology
1/ swansont already linked you to a thread containing that explanation and you chose to ignore. 2/ you said you still thought they were closer to plants 3/ i fail to see how my comment was ignorant. it was an observation on how thoughts do not influence the reality of a situation. -
waters relationship to life
insane_alien replied to wade.daniel.w's topic in Evolution, Morphology and Exobiology
why your being human or not affect reality? the reality is fungi branched of from proto animals after plants went their own way. hence, fungi are closer to animals than plants as the common ancestor is not so far back down the line. whether you think this is wrong or not does not affect the truth. just like if you think the sky is made of solid gold doesn't change the fact that it is not solid gold. -

waters relationship to life
insane_alien replied to wade.daniel.w's topic in Evolution, Morphology and Exobiology
It doesn't matter what you think. Reality has habit of not caring what people think is right. -
Not to mention that english is not the native language of a significant number of our users. What this means is that they will have an incredibly difficult time understanding you. English is my native language and even I find it hard to decipher what you mean. Oh and Acronyms are not 'txt spk' which is a whole different thing.

well, we never turn anyone away if they have a genuine interest in learning. infact, compared to most forums is astonishingly hard to get kicked out of here, yet some still manage it. always good to know that a nations army isn't full of gun toting meatheads although i suppose that would prefferable to gun toting robots controlled by an AI called skynet

Past life... Plz Read im doing an experiment
insane_alien replied to A Childs Mind's topic in The Lounge
the only references we have a re history books and that is the same for people claiming to have had past lives. it isn't hard to study up on one person and then invent some details not recorded in the books. -
please, do not use non-scientific prefixes in a science forum it will only cause misunderstandings and confusion. k (for kilo) is the SI prefix for 1000 and would be the preffered one m as a prefix in SI would be milli or thousandth M (mega) is million

ah i remember this from a few weeks ago. someone in my group looked into this a s a possible reaction for a conceptual design of a methanol plant(we needed hydrogen and lots of it) turns out it doesn't scale very well(yet) and a medium scale plant(say 1000 tonnes per day) would cost a few trillion and its operating costs would be on a similar scale. its possible with advances in other areas that it could become a viable industrial process but for now it is a lab scale curiosity.

and if we don't remember any past lives? remember, you'll have to count the misses as well as the hits.
