  1. all we know is that i has mass and interacts via gravity and possible the strong and/or weak force althoug hthis is unlikely. anything else is currently speculation.
  2. they can dream. dreams are not entirely pictures. there are sounds and smells and sensations and so on.
  3. yeah, they have those as well. the knife crime over here is actually pretty bad. if you wander through paisley when the clubs are closing(being in paisley is a crap idea even in broad daylight) you'll likely see at least three people who've been stabbed getting loaded into ambulances and another 15 getting arrested with the police confiscating multiple weapons per person.
  4. its just a liquid form of caffeine pills in my mind. more bulky too
  5. yeah i seen that one too. never seen anyone carrying one outside though.
  6. i was reffering to the extensive knife culture in the uk. it isn't uncommon for the groups of people causing hassles like this to be carrying a machete. yes a machete. now, base ball bat or not, i'd be unwilling to go up against a bunch of machete wielding neds. this is not even mentioning the rest of the spectrum of bladed weapons i've seenwhen they decide to have a fight on the streets of glasgow.
  7. Well, if it was dust the we would be able to see it as some light would be refelcted and then there is the absorbtion spectrum it would show. and not forgetting we mapped a field of dark matter which we could see through perfectly well (appart from the gravitational distortions which allowed us to map it in the first place.) if it was dust then the light from the stars we used would be dim andhave an absorbtion spectrum and the space wouldn't appear like empty space.
  8. oh they don't produce very much energy. they just provide stimulants to your brain to make you think you are more awake. its mainly the caffeine and that is proven not to be a placebo.
  9. i'd chuck the taurine and replace it with more caffeine. taurine isn't actually a good or effective stimulant while caffeine is. although a gram of caffeine is going to make you jittery. very very jittery.
  10. At the very least the car would have enough telemetry stored to determine exactly how a traffic accident happened and what was to blame. so it would reduce false convictions at any rate.
  11. you can have those mini mars bars as a prize too. amazing how far a bar of chocolate will encourage a kid to learn. even if that kid is a 21 year old university student (me).
  12. unless you want your crew to survive the trip. taking a few years to get to mars is all fine for a probe but it would be pretty crap for an astronaut especially as conditions aren't going to be much better on mars.
  13. and the cars can have transponders the inform other cars of its intentions so they can plot actions to result in minimal disturbance.
  14. but the force you get isn't exactly spectacular. your looking at a few centimeters per second per hour max.
  15. you haven't seen birmingham have you? or any UK city for that matter.
  16. volcanoes don't work on a schedule like the busses you know.its not 'overdue' its just the next one hasn't happened yet.
  17. I'm in favour of it being banned in public buildings (and that ban is in place in the UK ) but i think it should be optional to maybe provide a smoking room of some sort as the current situation leads to a choking cloud of fumes and coughing smokers at every office doorway. another option is to simply outlaw tobacco. Edit: not that his will stop it. just look at every other illegal drug as a case study
  18. or you can make a giant tinfoil hat for the building
  19. the arrangement is also pants, you'll fint that there are just as many +(north?) magnetic poles on the inside of that container so if one repels it then the other will attract it. there is a magnetic trap called a penn trap or something that CAN contain antimatter and has been proved to do so as well. it does not look anything like this.
  20. that system won't work. a magnetic pole will not repel a charged particle.
  21. 1200rad/s seems an excessive rotational velocity are you sure you didn't mean rpm?
  22. no. it doesn't although if you have a beam with an anergy density of over a megajoule per cubic centimeter you will get blooming which is visible. not what you want though.
  23. another downside is that your fuel consumption will increase due to the power requirements of the computers needed for machine vision.
  24. actually, it can. by releasing the pressure you can cause part of the caldera to collapse violently which send a massive pressure wave into the magma chamber causing another part of the caldera to erupt which could set the whole thing off.
  25. you could just pass it over a copper catalyst. you'll get steam and oxygen off of it, both can just be discharged to the atmosphere.
