HELP ! construction of payload
insane_alien replied to Christiana's topic in Astronomy and Cosmology
not really practical or helpful that. back on topic: i do agree you shouldn't go with the fishing line idea, a small radio beacon(perhaps you could make a set up for an onboard phone to text you GPS coordinates?) or something would be immensly better. -
reflection change direction of a wave front

microwave weaponary cannot be bought at any security site. if you can find a website selling this stuff then point me to it. also, the effect it has is not that of electric shocks. more of like sticking your hand into a a pot of boiling water. again, you are not being targeted by some mysterious person/organisation with microwave weapons. it is more likely you have a neurological issue that isn't very obvious the the neurologists that looked over you. might be worth getting a functional MRI scan done on you so they can see whats happening in your brain when you get these sensations. -
i'm pretty sure a 6 year old could gain 9 pounds in 4 months eating 'health foods' as well. You could probably do it on a diet composed entirely of cabbage too. you are mixing up type of food with over consumption of a type of food.

yes, when you add it to liquid water it does because diluting it is exothermic, concentrating it is necessarily endothermic. by freezing the water it is dissolved in(using snow in this case) you are concentrating the acid which is an endothermic process.
-
are you talking about hydrochloric acid as a solution or the gas itself (or even the liquified form) ? if the former then the water in the solution starts freezing taking the HCl out of solution resulting in an exothermic process which can cool it down. if the later(using liquid form) its simple because liquid HCl is much colder than the snow. if gaseous HCl then you are lying.

Homo Particles.......
insane_alien replied to Xittenn's topic in Modern and Theoretical Physics
well, what are you going to replace the air with? vibrations like this can't travel without a medium and at the scales you are talking about there is no medium. so the principle cannot be the same, nor can any of the mechanics. -
nope, you can think you are acting perfectly sober but in reality your still behaving like a drunken lummox. The movie beerfest has an excelent example of this when they are in the pub and they are playing the drinking game 'asshole'. the guy is obviously completely trounced and it cuts to what he's seeing and he see's himself as being perfectly fine but reality is that he's slurring, can't stand up straight and should probably be passed getting his stomach pumped.

Everything that is wrong with science.
insane_alien replied to Tangointhenight's topic in Speculations
The point of science is to describe reality. And, the reality of the situation is that reality is not always straight forward and intuitive. Anybody COULD understand these theories but they would need to learn the precursors first. Just like anybody COULD understand a book written in french, they would just need to learn the french language first. -
how little you know about this kind of person. you could take them up into space themselves and show them and they would still not accept the earth was round.

What is the most dense material that can exist on Earth?
insane_alien replied to Lan(r)12's topic in Classical Physics
Its an element, naturally occuring and metal. google or wikipedia could have told you this. -
yep, just regular brewers yeast. it has a better yield of glucose to ethanol than the heat resistant strains but even the heat resistant strains are pretty sensitive to heat. there are some bacteria that are best around 50*C but they're crap compared to yeast.
-
not really, i am working on designing a bioethanol plant design and before the yeast get seperated out they undergo heat treatment at 50*C to temporarily stop them producing CO2 but still retain cell viability. 60*C will not kill all of them unless it is for several days.
-
well, they'll die at most temperature but its not like it gets to a certain temperature and then suddenly all the cells die. i think 60*C is sufficient to kill some of them, although to kill a significant fraction in a reasonable time then you are probably looking at 110*C or so. you could use a microscope to measure the size of the yeast, they are a few microns in diameter so should be easily visible. insane_alien replied to Lan(r)12's topic in Classical Physics
they aren't all that dense at all. lead is denser. a quick google reveals estimates of the cores density to be somewhere about 13000kg/m3 http://pubs.usgs.gov/gip/interior/ -
wheres the fun in that though. if you want an element collection you might as well do it so you can say 'yeah, i isolated every one of these myself'
-
Yeah, seems what I remembered was some 'author speculation' in a news article about M-THEL. Seems i was wrong. Sorry bout that

what about nocturnal light intensity?
-
IIRC there is a laser system being designed to target incoming small arms fire and vapourise it before it could do any damage, this could probably be adapted for space use although it would require a LOT of power. also, you would need to be careful in you aim so you don't accidentally hit a sattelite a few thousand miles beyond your target, or someone walking down the street.

reflection change direction of a wave front
insane_alien replied to timetes's topic in Classical Physics
i didn't say we didn't believe something was happening to you, we just don't believe that the cause is what you think it is. I don't know what those pages have to do with this. cctv cameras and reporting diseases to CDC do not cause the feeling of electric shocks. you are not being targeted by any secret organisation. and i'll tell you why, why would they bother? they are still an organization of humans, they have limited and valuable resources. unless you are planning a terrorist uprising or plotting a coup or major drug smuggling then they really aren't going to bother. they have more important people to be watching. -
Yeah, i get this as well. takes temperatures below 0*C for me to consider it cold enough to get a jumper. even then, if i have a jacket i won't be wearing one. holiday in lanzarote was hell for me. for a whole week the temperatures were over 50*C. i spent most of my time in the ocean where it was cooler. took ice packs to bed with me.

the usage of the term 'law' is antequated. it has been replaced with 'theory'

try explaining that to my mother. it was in the paper today and she still doesn't get that most of the things there are only the size of a small car.

reflection change direction of a wave front
insane_alien replied to timetes's topic in Classical Physics
timetes, the transition from analogue signalling to digital signalling has precisely bugger all to do with microwave weaponry. the frequencies are no where near the same and not even in the same regime. you are NOT being targeted with microwave weaponry and your are very likely only experiencing static electricity shocks. try getting a humidifier. -
What is the most dense material that can exist on Earth?
insane_alien replied to Lan(r)12's topic in Classical Physics
yep, it is which is why we think that it couldn't exist on earth without first turning the earth into a neutron star. -

short answer: we don't have a clue. medium answer: we don't have a clue, but its not likely. long answer: we aren't entirely sure why it is stable on an neutron star never mind earth. the matierial is pretty much entirely neutrons as the gravitational pressures have caused the electrons to react with the protons. now, from out experiences in nuclear technology, we know that neutrons aren't stable outside of atoms, the undergo radioacitive decay fairly quickly. so, this leads us to to a few possible scenarios for making neutronium(the name for neutron star stuff) on earth. 1/ it is stable, but so dense it sinks through the earth like a brick through air and ends up at the core of the planet. 2/ its unstable, would be the most radioactive substance ever to arrive on earth. everything for miles around would likely die within a very short time and secondary radioactivity would also be severe. all the evidence points to 2 so far as we don't see small neutrons stars or anything.
