prove it. show us some evidence that the earth is alive. "its structure is similar to that of a tree" does not in anyway constitute evidence.

ionizing radiation in space
insane_alien replied to Astronautical's topic in Astronomy and Cosmology
re-entry is always a good one. lets you mess around with a blowtorch. make a little apollo shaped model and make some bases for it made out of different materials that show the different methods of dealing with the incredible heat. plywood is good for demonstrating ablation which was used on the apollo(not plywood, ablation). fire brick could be used for thermal soak protection(used on the shuttle). -
ionizing radiation in space
insane_alien replied to Astronautical's topic in Astronomy and Cosmology
everything provides some degree of protection against radiation. metals are usually particularly good. a small scale magnetosphere is possible although power requirements make it prohibitively expensive and limited to large craft(to accomodate the equipment) with a nuclear powersource (for power). this would potentially render many experiments undoable though. big electromagnets are needed to generate it. i don't think you should be using proper ionizing radiation at a science fair. you could however use cloudy jelly and a lightbulb to show how that it takes a certain amount to half the radiation going through and that you can never block it all completely. -
you may not be a chemist but the chemistry is sound

it can definitely break you bones, i've seen it happen and it isn't pretty. although if you hold it correctly the worst you have to fear is a 'dead' arm after firing off a lot of shots.

well, for the rifle i've fired most (SA-80) the specs are Rifle Mass: 3.8kg Bullet Mass: 0.004kg Muzzle Velocity: 940m/s single fire would be the best way to do it as multiple shots change the way your body absorbs the shock(it is impossible to keep on target for more than say 3 shots).

jsispat, please not that this does not in itself generate matter, it is the method by which nutrients a gases are fixed into the mass of the plant, the process in itself does not generate any new matter or mass at all.

i concur, why just a few nights ago i was holding onto the ground for dear life when i was caught it one of those alcohol related reversals of gravity.

well, modern rifles(particularly those used in combat eg. by a soldier) tend to be made as light as possible so they are easy to carry. they do indeed deliver a larger kick than older heavier rifles. but either of them, if held wrong can shatter your collar bone or dislocate your shoulder with ease if held in the wrong position.

as it is an organic mixture it won't have a definite freezing point and they're will be a big partially frozen temperature range.

rock salt is sodium chloride formed from evapourating lakes. it typically contains various impurities leading to it looking like a rock of a dirty bit of salt. there is no inferior/superior thing here as that would have to depend on the intended usage. it is generally not used in place of table salt as the impurities can make it inedible.

science is not a democracy and can never be a democracy. it must remain a meritocracy for any progress to be made. new ideas need to have sort of fmerit to get anywhere because if they don't then they are just wrong and useless to science.

tiny cracks disperse and reflect light. if these are present in enough quantity then the glass(or ice) will become opaque as it reflects and scatters most light. in ice the main cause is bubbles rather than cracks.
-
yep. that should be the case. and it should probably work though you would be better off buying 2 of the faster chips. so you'd have 2GB for not much more cost and it would be faster than the 1.5GB and possibly the 1GB on its own depending on your motherboard architecture.
-
well, higher frequency is better but if your motherboard or other RAM chips can't go that fast it should run fine at the lower frequency. as long as you get the right type (DDRvsDDR2)

ducttape. useful and makes an awesome fashion accessorie. you could also try melting plastic onto it. thats worked for me before.

nothing more you need to know. brands are rather irrelevant i've always found but kingston have a good reputation.

and why don't you suddenly fall upwards

phenomenon of 18 degrees for pseudoscalar mesons

translated still seems to be pulling the angles out of his ass. -
the earth is not hollow. seismology pretty much proves this. if the earth was only a shell 800 miles thick vibrations from earthquakes and nuclear bombs and strip mining would propagate much differently. also, many people have flew over the pole. submarines have been under the ice there, we've seen it from space. there is no entrance there.(or anywhere)

i think CPU-Z can tell you what RAM you currently have. just buy some sticks similar to that. PC-xxxx or PC2-xxxx most likely PC means you DDR RAM PC2 means you want DDR2. if you can find the model of your motherboard from there then check the specs for the best speed it can take and get that as it will improve the performance. and as RAM is cheap just now you might consider upping it to 2GB.

DH, isn't there a significant amount of mass carried off by the solar wind as well?
-
gah. i've been doing that a lot lately. think i'll go take a nap.

dude, s=at^2 or, rearranged a=s/t^2 where a = acceleration t=time s= displacement. we do know the acceleration.

well, it is getting less massive. but that doesn't necessarily mean smaller. infact, before it turns into a white dwarf it will get very much larger, so much so it could engulf the earth perhaps even mars. although, the part about the planets slowly drifting is correct. although it would take longer than the life of the sun before it would let go of even the furthest kuiper belt objects.
