the pressures aren't big enough for metallic hydrogen to exist at those temperatures. you would also have a severe deficit of mass for the earth as well. then you need to explain how the hydrogen got down there when all other minerals exhibit stratification due to different densities.(heavy stuff sinks, light stuff floats.) iron is much simpler and conforms to seismic data.

it would appear to be clean. clam av, avg and avast detect no viruses and i'm not noticing any unusual activity on the virtual machine it is installed on. did result in some hefty amounts of errors though. had to restart to get rid of all the 'this program has performed an illegal operation' errors.

neither does the DMCA for the same reason. its completely unrelated to the thing under discussion. boyles law deals with ideal gases. the champagne is neither a gas nor ideal.

no, you still don't get it. you can pressurize a liquid very easily. if i have water sitting in a piston and i place a load on it, i will increase the pressure of the liquid. the liquid will not COMPRESS very much(not even a visible amount usually) but the pressure would rise the same amount as if it were a gas.
-
the liquid will be at the same pressure as the gas above it(well, hydrostatic pressure will result in a higher pressure below the surface but you get the idea). i suspect you were thinking of compression rather than pressure there. you need the equilibrium constant for CO2 solubility.

says the guy who cut the tip of his thumb off not so long ago... but yeah, a little bit out and your not going to be a happy(or breathing) bunny.

simple hydrogenation. you have acetylene(C2H2) and hydrogen(H2) mix them and add a little heat and the hydrogen will add on changing the tripple bond to a double bond or a double bond to a single bond.
-
probably react in the chamber to produce a bid of ethene and ethane, not dangerous(they will behave the same as acetylene in that they'll produce a flame in the right bits and won't in the wrong bits) but they will degrade the lamps performance.

when 'novice at chemistry' and 'make nitrocellulose' come together in a post it is a sign that you shouldn't be making it at all. it runs away very easily. even if you have done the reaction 100 times before it can still run away on you. i think this also comes under the hazmat section of our rules as well.

its YT, so probably something along the lines of world domination would be the likely route.

its definitely edging on a 1984 scenario now. either they make tobacco illegal, or they don't. half measures never work and both sides end up angry about something.

HDDVD uses a blue laser as well, just wait till everyone is chucking those out because there are no movies for it.
-
you still have to explain where the mass came from and why the earth has a decently thick solid crust and why tectonics cannot be happening at all. it is only a good theory if you blindly ignore a whole lot of data.

smae way as a bird with shorter wings. they'll typically be going aboutthe same speed as smaller birds. also, they will be raised when landing.

it can be found directly but the reaction is not always spontaneous and it may not be possible to form the compound just by mixing the elements and seeing if something happens. its easier to take heats of combustion and provides a common framework for getting the heats of formation for all compounds.

well, not all celss have a nucleus. prokaryotes and archaea(sp?) do not have nuclei, or any significant internal structure.

Digestive transit time ?

nope. we were making a functioning model submarine, the lead pellets were being used as ballast, long story short, we had a pellet fight. -
Abstract thought in animals

yes, this tends to be true but 1/ not everyone here is a research scientist and i'd guess a few didn't even do science at school. 2/ when scientists are trying to convey information to other scientists they do not talk in riddles and cryptic clues. they get down to the point and include a lot of precision so there is no doubt about what they mean. 3/ you don't NEED to be good at it to be a competent research scientist. as long as your analytical methods are good you won't need to have any epiphanies. -
oh is that what it is. i didn't know that. i thought CMOS were just for transistors.

Digestive transit time ?

27 hours for me. accidentally swallowed some lead pellets. they chink against the bowl when the come out the other end. -
not really, camera phones have crap IR filters and the CCD has some sensitivity in the near IR range.

because they think magnets are some magical thing only vaguely understood by scientists.

because it is always the present. if he returned somewhere at any other time than the present when he done it, it would be very very strange.

Men Will Farm Women In The Future! No Joke!!
insane_alien replied to HumanBeast's topic in Speculations
totally agree with you there. i held a door open for one and got a slap in the face for it. i held the door open because she was right behind me and if i let it go it would have hit her quite hard, which would be rude to anybody, not because i was belittling her. and to keep this fair and reflect my own viewpoints the other extreme, male chauvinists(or whatever the male equivalent of a feminist is called) should also just die. can't stand it when people think down on someone just because they're female. even the common stuff like 'bloody woman drivers' it just irks me. i see things in 'good driver/crap driver' perspective. i'd also like to say i've never done anything considered sexist but i probably have at some point without even realising it. if the situation gets to the point where either gender is farmed then it will be a very very sad day. -
thats what the tall skinny kid is for.
