it is pretty cool isn't it. if you really wanted to you could to a real time trip to mars(or any of the other planets and their moons) or whatever. i've only been patient enough to go to the moon in realtime though. recreated apollo 11. got there 32 seconds faster

because a whole lot of air was pushed out of that area. this results in a lower than atmospheric pressure zone which promptly gets filled again.

Are impredicative statements and axiom reducibility invalid
insane_alien replied to das's topic in Mathematics
but you can't prove that either. -

a yes or no answer is hard when the answer is neither yes nor no. not everything exists in a boolean state. -
A new style reflecting telescope
insane_alien replied to square173205's topic in Astronomy and Cosmology
wouldn't the scanning mirror need to change rotation and curvature depending on where it was? i can see problems with that. also, telescope arrays already exist and are in use today. -
HOw do i measure in grams without an expensive scale?
insane_alien replied to AZNchemist's topic in Science Education
thats why i suggested the volume displacement scale. it can be quite accurate. you could also put the scale on the sample float. the thinner it is the more accurate it will be although it won't be able to hold as much. you could probably get down to tenths of a gram reasonably easily. with some more tweaking it should be possible to get hundredths. -
not really my field, you might want to chack wikipedia for generaldescriptions of the course.

enviromental studies will be well, studying the environmentits pretty vague so i suppose it will touch on many aspects. enviromental engineering will be about engineering the environment. could be anything from office air conditioning to designing habitats. enviromental science will be the science behind the previous two chemical engineering is the design, and construction of chemical plants. again, this covers a lot of things and can range from micro fuelccells to massive oil refineries and associated trans continental pipelines. after two years of this course and a quarter of my way into the third the term 'glorified plumber' seems to becoming more and more apt. theres pipes everywhere.

i want a minature robot to be invented that can hunt for lost socks. i only have 3 matching pairs left.

A doubt in the Law of conservation of energy
insane_alien replied to Nivvedan's topic in Classical Physics
there will also be some lost through EM radiation from the motor. -
while the graphics and animations aren't as good as that professionally rendered movie(which probably took weeks to make) ...yet. the physics works and some addons will even simulate cabin conditions and if the crew will survive. http://www.orbitersim.com is quite impressive. works with XP not sure about vista, can be made to work on linux although buggily

thats only true if you started tunneling into the earth. all of the mass of the earth is 'below' you and you are closer to the centre. so all the mass still has an effect and on average you are closer to it. the centrifugal force does have an effect but it is a few orders of magnitude smaller.

was spacetime really created with the Big Bang?
insane_alien replied to gib65's topic in Astronomy and Cosmology
The correct answer is, we don't know since we can't work back to the beginning(if there was one) we can get close(we think) but the laws of physics have not been tested/break down under those conditions. not sure what the current consensus is, seems to change every other week. -
yeah, but it doesn't have the effects that the yoga teachers say it will(i've even heard them claim it cures cancer.

maybe you can eat it?

some people are utter prats and like to have power over people by convincing them of falsehoods. sometimes they just believe it for an unknown reason. i don't act like i know everything because i know i don't but there are empircal observations that disprove every claim they make. and reality does have some constraints. namely, the rules discovered by physics. they do prohibit certain occurences. like the creation/destruction of energy.

yeah and they change all the time, heck i can alter mine just by getting drunk
-
yeah, even if the earth does somehow survive the white dwarf will provide some radiation for a long long time. too far into the x-ray spectrum for us but it would be light none the less.

stick a flame in an electric field and tell me it isn't a plasma. if it were gas it would be unaffected. plasmas are strongly affected though. you can even extinguish a flame with an intense enough field.

HOw do i measure in grams without an expensive scale?
insane_alien replied to AZNchemist's topic in Science Education
that is why the sample is placed into a floating container as i said before. several times. why does everyone think i just said chuck the sample into the water. -
artificial sunlight is more than possible already. we just don't have the resources to do it on as large a scale as lighting the entire planet yet. all you need to do is generate a light curve at ~6000K not too difficult.

that would be impressive if you could pierce a vein without piercing the skin. last time i had to get an injection into a vein it most definitely pierced the skin as well. why not ask a diabetic to pose while taking their shot of insulin. real injection for a real purpose, you're just photographing it.

insane_alien replied to AZNchemist's topic in Science Education
no it doesn't. thats what the sample float is for. it just needs the working fluid(water) to have a density of 1 g/ml the density of the sample is irrelevant. -
yeah it does. the ass changes in the second law depending on how fast your going. though in the local frame you can probably take it as uncahnged.

no, there are free electrons and free radicals, it IS a plasma. regardless ofhow 'sciency' it sounds.
