it is called a plasma ball. the 'lightning' you see is plasma. it is effectively a gaseous wire. there is a voltage on the outside(especially if you have a coin or similar on top of it) but the amperage it is capable of is absolutely tiny. sine it is high frequency ac(like a tesla coil, thats what the innards essentially are) it will appear to produce a constant spark on the outside. it is anything but.

yep this is what would happen, they matter and antimatter would annihilate into photons which are trapped there anyway and would still give the same mass. this would cause the same gravitaional effects.

What is it that makes time appear to slow down?
insane_alien replied to jdurg's topic in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
happened again about twenty minutes ago. some half-wit decided it would be fun to go round a blind corner at what must have been 60-70mph. the eejit missed my car by about 10cm. seemed as if he was going past real slow though. lets just say there are skidmarks both on the road and on my underwear. i'm still jumped up with adrenaline and can't actually sit still just now. -
Dichotomy’s non-random science questions.

well, the way he worded it seemed to imply that it was a blade dragged across the surface scratching it. or maybe i just never thought it through. -
terminal velocity only occurs within an atmosphere. the less atmosphere, the higher the terminal velocity. until a vacuum when you have 3e8 m/s

you also don't know how common hydrogen peroxide is. i can get it at any supermarket. though, your chances of finding a decent concentraton are higher if you go to a hardware store.

Dichotomy’s non-random science questions.

no, it can occur between two single protons that just happen to collide with the tight energy. Q16/ the jet will not be harder than diamond. water jets do not cut like a blade it uses pressure to force the material out the way. -
just because it is editable does not mean that it is wrong. google, you will find many agreeing sources.

i'm going to walk into an airport with a labcoat on and an empty testube in the pocket just to see what happens well, obviously i'll wear a kevlar body suit.

youdo not make the rules. this is not IRC. this is a forum. timescales are longer. if you want IRC we have a chatroom, i am online just now as is capn and klay.

use a zip file or a .tar.gz anybody can open those. it'll make things easier.

yesterday is not a long time ago.

yeah, why don't you just not start spouting off about things you don't know? it only makes you look like a fool. also, you would do well to actually read what you are responding to. it helps keep discussion relevant.

we have been telling you to do that for ages now. so you are blatantly ignore the thousands of ware houses STACKED with fossil records, DNA samples, Experimental results, etc. etc. etc. i mean, how can you get to college level biology and not know about this stuff.

hydrogen ion =/= hydrogen gas. get your facts right. and hydrogen peroxide does give of oxygen in the presence of acid. i preffer just dunking in a copper catalyst but an acid will do it too. an acid solution in itself i.e. H2SO4 (aq) will not give off hydrogen fumes.

i just done this the other day. i used an oven to speed up the drying process. it's working fine.

sigh, there have been many, even in antiquity http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_supernova_observation http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Supernova_1987A this is a recent(though not the most recent) one its not as if these things are quick and clean like a camera flash, the can last months and years.

well they work on the principal of conservation of momentum and that every action will have an equal and opposite reaction(newtons third law.) the basics of how they work is to chuck a lot of gas out the nozzle really really fast(a few kilometers per second.) the faster you chuck stuff out the back, the more thrust. rockets burn hydrogen and oxygen(usually) to create the energy and the material to fire out of the nozzle. the rest, i suggest you research yourself. it is a useful skill to have later on in academic life.

actually, protons can't go into each other because the constituent components have noninteger spins. neutrinos can happly be in the same place at the same time hanging out with their mass. prove it the sun varies in its diameter faster than this all the time. it shrinks and expands periodically. usually at a few meters per second. even if that is true it is well into the experimental noise range and the observations would need to be over deades perhaps centuries to get a decent trend.
-
same way they work on earth, just without the pesky atmosphere getting in the way of the exauhst gases and reducing the overall thrust.
-
well, seeing as we have a good geological history of the earth, it was perfectly solid 25,000 years ago. you also haven't shown that the sun is shrinking of moving away. and, at the moment, we are getting closer to the sun. we will be closest on january third. then we will start moving away again till july fourth. do you mind linking to those laws and why can't you have a large number of photons in the same place at once? there is no law against that.

http://www.mindat.org/min-955.html there isn't any data on it's toxicology. doubt it's soluble as well. why don't you give it a shot an see try dissolving some of it in hot water. it oxidises in air but i can't find any reference to H2S evolving from it. from the looks of it the most severe damage is going t obe caused by the actual act of excavation rather than the excavated materials. i can't find any references to ecological damage from CuFeS2 dust from any other quarries either.

i wouldn't buy from these guys when they claim 90% of our energy comes from oxygen, hey we can live of air! wooo! also, just labeling it powder A and powder B isn't actually legal, there should be a link telling you exactly what powder A and what powder B is. i wouldn't be surprised if this thing doesn't actually give off oxygen.
