  1. all religious texts are equally frought with error. the Torah, Bible and Qur'an are very closely related by the way and have a lot of the exact same mistakes. other religious tets tend to have different historical impossibilities.
  2. not much, the solar wind and radiation pressure doesn't exhert much force on the earth. iirc its about 1.5*10^8 N. sounds like a lot right? but the mass of earth is so stupendously larger than that it doesn't make much acceleration 7.7×10^-17m/s^2 to be exact. you undergo more acceleration when you fart while riding an exercise bike. so the result is that the earths orbit would be stable a few nanometers closer to the sun. i could work out exactly how much closer but whats the point? its so close to zero that it effectively IS zero.
  3. well, the big ones are the creation of earth which the bible says happened around 6000 years ago. then the big flood 4000 years ago. there should be an abundance of evidence for these things happening but there isn't. the earth is known to be many orders of magnitude older than 6000 and that there was not and could not have been a global flood 4000 years ago. any historical content in the bible (and it would have to be the most brilliantly concieved hoax for there not to be any historical data in it at all) will have been warped by the stories being handed around by various story tellers for years before being written down. even different books of the bible have contradictions. even different parts of the same book have contradictions. as a result the bible is not taken as a reliable historical source. however, there are some cases where it is such as in the depictions of roman crucifictions. it is generally accepted that other historical data is required before anything in the bible can be taken as fact.
  4. no the bible is not considered factual evidence by anyone other than the people who believe that the bible is the infallable word of god.
  5. the answer is 'the bible says so'. now, this is enough for people who believe in the bible but for others more evidence is needed. all we have evidence for is that yes, there was an influential jewish preacher called jesus and that he was crucified. as for turning water into wine, resurrection even the gathering at his birth, zilch except for stories written centuries later
  6. as the moon is quite well tidally locked, the tidal forces should be fairly constant(there is a bit of wobble due to the moons eccentricity)

  13. mmm, bacteria are easy enough to wipe out most of the time, but due to the immense variation even in a single colony you will always encounter some that just will not die. even if you use the standard of 'heat them up' even if you bake it at 200*C for an hour the chances of one or two organism still being viable are kind of high. I've even seen stuff thats been fairly well nuked (~100kGy) spontaneously start growing stuff without any breach in packaging. if you want to properly neuter anthrax than you need to change humans into something that can easily tolerate it.
  14. exactly its huge. its enormously unfathomably huge. and al lthat time stars have been exploding and being replaced, orbiting(those inside the suns orbit have orbited more and those outside have orbited less) the arms will have changed appearance considerably (they are really waves in the stars motion so they are under no obligation to move with the stars and can even move in a direction opposite to the rotation of the galaxy.) you can see this behaviour crop up in even very basic simulations of a galaxy with only a few thousand 'stars' even if you start it off as a sphere or any old random shape. it can be done in less than 60 rotations too as most of the balancing tends to occur in the first 10-15 rotations and waves can form just as quick.
  15. well, what would happen is that around the point of breakdown the structure of the plastic molecules will be considerably changed. influencing its conductive properties. you'll find that the conductivity is increased leading to a much faster leak rate of the capacitor and the removal of the dielectric will lead to a lower capacitance. due to the crudeness of the design, it will be quite robust, however its doubtfull that it's be useful in any application.
  16. permanantly damaged usually. tere are a few dielectrics that will return to normal once the capacitor has been discharged. usually gaseous ones like air. most solid and gel dielectrics will become permanantly damaged unless you go to the bother of replacing the dielectric.
  17. false dichotomy. not fixed does not mean random.] the stars do not maintain a fixed place in the galaxy, they orbit the center like the planets orbit the sun. even the apparent arms will fade and reappear over time. it's all moving but because the speed of light is so small comparatively it appears fixed.
  18. they don't need to collide to produce electron-positron pairs, if the photon is over 1.04MeV then it'll do it on its own quite happily. protons and antiprotons require a much much more energetic photon so these are really really unlikely to happen.

  20. remember, on an industrial synthesis you can boost efficiency of a reaction step by the use of recycle loops. theoreticaly to 100% although to do so would require infinite money and resources. but getting close can be done much more cheaply.
  21. even then, no. remember, indefinitely is an incredibly long time. even if we ignore the death of the sun and the gravity of the moon destabilizing the path and assume that this is a tube going through a homogenous non-rotating sphere and so on and do forth ideal conditions in other words, the answer is still no, it will not be indefinite. it will eventually come to rest at the center as it loses energy to the emission of gravity waves. all objects in orbit emit waves of gravity and at the scales we are considering, the effect is incredibly tiny. and this is an orbit we're talking about, albeit a very unusual one. so it will eventually come to a standstill. it will take many trillions of years but it will happen. i suppose you could even work out exactly how long it would take if you wanted.

  24. there won't be a table but its easy enough to calculate. just look at the molecular formula count up the number of occurances of the species of interest(magnesium etc) and then divide the weight of the magnesium by the weight of the full molecule. multiply by 100 and there you go. for instance lets say you have magnesium chloride the formula is MgCl2 so, there is one magnesium atom and 2 chlorine the molecule has a mass of 95.211g/mol magnesium has a mass of 24.305 so (24.305/95.211)*100% = 25.5% simple.
