  1. uhh, there are literally millions of chemicals used. idoubt there is any one website that lists them all. it seems you attend a fictional university as well, just to let you know. which is probably why you haven't looked in the university libraray for this information.
  2. what? no, don't use 20barg. i haven't calculated anything yet. you haven't gave me all the data. why would you use a barometer? it won't go up to 20bar.
  3. i'd go see a doctor. it does however sound like a mild seizure. not to scare you but this could be a symptom of something more serious so you should get it checked out by a professional. not some forum on the internet. on the other hand, itcould be nothing. but do you really want to take the chance?
  4. well you need to tell me this. give me all the information you can. 20 barg means a presure 20 bar above atmospheric. its nealy 20 atmospheres of pressure.
  5. doesn't matter if it's on a hill or not. if it has to ascend 300ft it will require 10bar to reach it. or is the 300ft the length and it only goes up 20ft or so?
  6. wait hang on, i was checking your diagram again to do some calculations and i noticed something i missed before. how in hell will you manage to siphon water UP 300ft? you'll get 30ft if you create a complete vacuu in the pipe above. you'll need a pump capable of at LEAST 10 barg to get flow. although, for practical purposes you'll probably need something like 15barg. for getting it up 600ft you'll need at least 20barg at the bottom.
  7. okay, coupla points. 1/ what is the flowrate of the drip valves 2/ what is the diameter of the pipe 3/ why don't you have the drip valves on the first pipe, it would save you having to pump the water back up from the pond. there should be enough pressure difference to do this and siphon the water to the pond. although, that depends on what sort of flowrates you want.
  8. doesn't it use the opera browser? surely you can use the control thingy(technical term) as a mouse or something.

    What if...

science wouldn't exist without imagination. quantum mechanics in particular. we just term it speculation. you'd be amazed at what scientists have imagined up. look at string theory, quantum mechanics, relativity. lots of wacky stuff going on there.
  10. well, if you are talking about species with long lifespans then we cannot DIRECTLY observe evolution, though, by looking at fossils and other remains we can collect indirect evidence. this is still classed as observing it by science. for species with a short generation time, say bacteria, we CAN and HAVE observed evolution. also, micro and macro evolution are very illdefined concepts imposed by the creationists.
  11. speculations isn't the trash. but this really is trash.
  12. 12 types of ice. though, ice IX does not act like the ice IX in the sci-fi novel cat's cradle and it will not freeze the oceans from a single molecule.
  13. different mechanisms of breathing. we use sacks that we can stretch to draw air into our lungs using muscles and expel air by relaxing. fish use gills which are the equivalent of a hollow tube, there are no muscles capable of creating a current so they must swim. also, up here we have a higher concentration of oxygen.
  14. slackchad, just ignore Guest026, he's new and isn't aquainted with the forums etiquette yet. i'm sure Cap'n will aquaint him with a copy of the rules and a vat of hot oil. if you post your answer(and we want you to) provide your working. if we don't know how you got to your answer we can't tell you where you went wrong, that is if you went wrong at all.
  15. you just highlight the spoiler and it reveals the text. okay, so you're in the 'talented and gifted' class then? could you lay of the semitxtspk it's getting a bit annoying.
  16. try drinking till 6am and getting up at ~10am. started around 3pm. i was still drunk when i got up. definitely a lot of alcohol left over. now you mention it, i haven't noticed with other drinks like cider. i'll have to experiment. some people i kow are coming to the university this semester so i'll probably end up at freshers week(for the third time) i'll lay off the vodka and see what happens.
  17. draw a diagram, put as much information on the diagram as possible. i'll need the diameter of the pipe for one thing. i'll work out what size of pump you need.
  18. summary of paper Electric motors Electric motors Electric motors Perpetual Motion Electric motors God did it Yeah, nothing to do with the universe really. you can't just tag something unrelated on at the end of a paper. also, you have premises in your conclusions. it's all very mixxed up. not a good paper
  19. depends on your definition of contact. in physics, contact just means an interaction. so technically, you could say we are in contact with every particle in exitence right now. the effects just don't become all that noticable until you're realy close though.
  20. pickles will light up if you connect them to the mains.
  21. unless it is deuterium. or tritium where it has 2 neutrons. both of those are still hydrogen.
  22. 1/ it is the quarks that make the protons and neutrons that are charged. charge is an intrinsic property of these particles like mass. electrons themselves have charge. it is again an intrinsic property. 2/ electrostatic charges. it works a bit like gravity but it is the electromagnetic force in this case. there are also some quantum mechanical effects at these scales which makes it more complicated. especially if you have anything above hydrogen.
  23. well, assuming it is transparent. otherwise it will just get reflected or absorbed.
  24. no, they would still slow down upon entering a medium and colour is only determined by frequency(or energy, it comes to the same). frequency does not change because of the lack of an atmosphere.
  25. aha. well, that explains it. thanks man.
