the dust is sand. silicon dioxide does not combust so it cannot form a dust explosion.

September 11th; does anyone else think it was suspicious

and the absolutely stunning lack of an increase in radiation levels around new york. even if this was the cleanest nuclear bomb ever made (and also the lowest yield which makes it even more unlikely) there would still be a load of highly radioactive materials thrown about. we would have seen people with radiation poisoning in the aftermath. now, you've seen the pictures and video. EVERYBODY was covered in dust. it would be in their lungs, stomachs, mouths, nostrils, under their fingers, ground into their skin and it'd be radioactive. as there were zero cases of radiation poisoning (apart from the usual people undergoing radiotherapy which are intentional cases of radiation poisoning and not related to the towers) then we can conclude there was no nuclear bomb. also, where was the incredibly loud 'crack' sound of a nuclear blast at close range? nuclear bombs don't sound like a rumble unless you are far away. just like lightning within about 4-5 miles sounds sharp but further away and its a rolling rumble. and if it was a nuke it'd be LOUD. i don't think you could even pass it off as a half tonne of C4 either. which would be more likely. -
Cause of the magnetic fields of the Earth?
insane_alien replied to alpha2cen's topic in Astronomy and Cosmology
you can use a compass near the sun if you want. It will still show you where the nearest north pole is. whether this is the information you want is another matter. -
Cause of the magnetic fields of the Earth?
insane_alien replied to alpha2cen's topic in Astronomy and Cosmology
no. it has many north and south poles and the number varies with time as does their location. far greater than earths. This is all due to the fact that the sun is a conductor all the way through while the earth only has a little bit of molten metal near the center. -
About the reasent flooding in australia
insane_alien replied to torbjorn fredriksson's topic in Speculations
The flooding in austrailia wasn't caused by tides. it was caused by rainstorms. magnetic fields also don't behave the way you describe. -

Apologies, been a while since I've actually paid attention to this. Thanks for the correction. -
September 11th; does anyone else think it was suspicious
insane_alien replied to Fanghur's topic in Speculations
If you recall, the 'war on terror' did not start in Iraq. The place everybody started attacking was Afghanistan as this is where the Taliban (Osama and all his lot) were currently based. The war with Iraq started because the USA thought they were hiding WMD's. PS. Please don't put words in my mouth, its not a good tactic and not once did i mention Iraq or the Iraqi people -
September 11th; does anyone else think it was suspicious
insane_alien replied to Fanghur's topic in Speculations
There was no bombing on the 11th of september. Two dirty great planes flew into the buildings. And yes, when two planes are flown into buildings within minutes of each other yes it is bloody suspicious. Luckily we found out who did it and are still hounding them to extinction. Oh the aircraft controllers would have realised in a jiffy that something was up. The problem here lies in that aircraft do deviate from the perfectly planned course all the time. This can be due to weather, the pilot not getting the guidance exactly right and other fun stuff. This in itself is not suspicious. By the time the planes were far enough off course for it to become suspicious there wasn't much time left. Also, I doubt the terrorists were responding to ATC radio chatter, they could have assumed a communications malfunction. Also, if they scrambled fighter jets, they wouldn't reach the aircraft in time. It wasn't wartime so getting the jets off the ground isn't going to be their quickest possible time. Also, if some fighters did arrive, what are they going to do? Shoot it down? over one of the most crowded cities in the world? Like hell they are, they didn't know what they were going to do at the time. Massive structural damage from an impact and raging fires tend to have an impact on a buildings ability to stand up. Steel is not indestructable no matter what some people may think. If you heat a 2cm thick steel rod up to the temperatures experience in the fire even a stereotypical computer nerd would have the strength to bend it never mind 10000tonnes of building. No, they did not have time to reach terminal velocity. What most people say about this is that they fell at an acceleration of g. Although, if you calculate it out (and it is possible, i did it on another thread) they fell at an acceleration of 8.something m/s^2. This is far from g. This is what you'd expect when something is offering resistance like, oh they rest of a building. Buildings do not cope with shock damage well. they are not designed to have massive weights dropped on them. Steel beams breaking and falling stuff can sound like explosions when they are big, this isn't a new phenomenon. I think you'll agree with me when i say the towers were big. Oh yes they could. you don't need to get THAT hot to melt steel. only 1500*C. Do you know how hot a candle flame is? 1000*C and that is largely because it is small. Also, there's plenty of other burnables in an office. and plenty that can cause some interestingly hot fires. yes, that is true. but they weren't hit by planes first. Steel buildings come with fire proofing around the steel supports. This is because it is known if the steel gets hot, the building is coming down. Having a plane slam into the building (destroying plenty of main suport colomns completely on itw own) tends to rip and knock off a lot of this fire proofing while setting the beams on fire by dousing them in jet fuel. Can you spot the difference between an ordinary building fire? the people who planned the attack were not the ones flying the aircraft. I assure you that the ones flyingthe aircraft were not found alive and well. And you can understand why the taliban didn't want to lose the planners, anyone who can pull of a plan like that is a skilled planner and could be of great future use. But it was a conspiracy. It was a conspiracy by the taliban to kill people. Yes, people did find it suspicious, thats why lots of people went to war with the people who did it. How could you fail to notice how many people wwere treating it suspiciously? -
thats because the earth isn't spherical. the strongest gravitational field is a few thousand kilometers away from the magnetic poles as the magnetic poles are not at the geographic poles.

there was also a slight smell of banana
-
its older than 6 million because it is. lets assume you meet someone who is 25. would you ask them "why are you not 10?"?
-
well, i think both would have to have come from the foods and sweets because the tandoori chicken did not cause it on its own and the polo didn't cause it on its own. only in combination. it may not have been isoamyl acetate but another banana tasting ester. I only mentioned isoamyl acetate as i have tasted it and it tasted the same. I don't think it is out of the realms of possibility that it was something else entirely.

Hey, so i stumbled upon an interesting bit of esterification today. After lunch (tandoori chicken wrap) i had a polomint at my desk and got back to work. After a few minutes as the mintyness was starting to disappear, BAM. banana flavour! out of nowhere! As some, or most of you will know, there are a few esters that taste just like banana and are used in banana flavouring. There is a high chance this is what happened. I'm just guessing but I think the ester formed was 3-methyl-1-butyl ethanoate otherwise known as isoamyl acetate. this is a common banana flavouring and the result on my tounge tasted very banana-y while the guy who runs the QC labs at my work is pretty cool, he wasn't up for analysing my spit to see exactly which ester was forming on my tounge so no luck there. it would have been interesting to know. Anybody know of any other impromptu in mouth esterification reactions that could produce a good (and tasty) result? I can't guarantee that this will work with any tandoori chicken. this probably counts double considering that there is a special level reserved in hell for my companies new catering company. The cafeteria staff are excellent and they do the best with what they're given though. always good chat too.

First off, learn to type properly. Syntax is as important in communicating as it is in programming. Most of that post is unparseable. Second, if you do know programming like you claim then yes, you can program whatever you want. Congratulations. All that is limiting you is your knowledge of the programming language. If you want to code device drivers(and that seems to me to be the only reason for wanting to know the physical side in relation to programming) then all you need is a copy of the interface codings which are usually proprietry. You can of course work out the interface commands on your own by trial and error but this is time consuming even if you have scripted it. So, can you tell us what you want more specifically and in a parseable manner?

it'll be filled with bacteria and phlegm and spit. hardly a pure sample. does it have to be from a smoker, i mean, you get a chamber, 500 cigarettes and light them all. it should provide a significant amount of smoke, you'll want to do it outside in a well ventilated area though. i imagine the smell would be particularly pungent.

well, if any object can be redefined to make atheists into theists then yes. I don't think it matters what other people think about what you believe. it matters what the person in question believes. if subject A does not believe in god and subject B beleives god is television and then A watches television, this does not hange the athiest nature of A regardless of the opinions of B. similarly, the fact that A does not believe that god is television this does not change the B from being a theist to an athiest.

How does an electrical charge behave in a Klein bottle?
insane_alien replied to HiggsBoson's topic in Classical Physics
they aren't true klein bottles. a true klein bottle does not intersect itself -
i believe the universe exists but i do not believe that the universe is a god.
-
i don't believe in any of those conceptions of god. i honestly can't place any of my beliefs as pointing towards any definition of god i have heard. i don't believe there is a supreme being, i don't believe god exists in the rocks and the rivers, i don't believe that there is an ultimate form, i don't believe in any of it. i'm sure there are others like me.
-
well, as they gave out some puffs of smoke and then didn't work i'm going to go with: something important broke and you haven't fixed it. beyond that, we do not have anywhere near enough information to diagnose the problem let alone tell you how to fix it. you never even told us what type of jet engine it was.

no, gravitationally bound bodies aren't expanding. but the space they occupy is still expanding. remember, its space itself thats undergoing expansion, not the objects contained within.
-
nope. yep, thats what current observations suggest.
-
thats an easy one. everywhere. when the universe started it was all the same point.

you agreed to the rules when you joined. you didn't follow them by talking about religion outside the religion forum, the rules were enforced. deal with it.

do you have a job? because if you do you probably signed a confidentiality agreement saying that you wouldn't talk about company secrets to the public and so on. this is a legal agreement that limits what you can say. well, more to the point, it does NOT limit what you can say. all it does is state that if you say such things then you will undergo some sort of punishment, from losing your job to prison depending on the nature of the breach of contract. i mean, if you tell a report about a minor nonconformance to some standard your company should be operating to then you are only likely to lose your job. if however you are working for the government and talk about how the government is secretly developing a new weapon then there is a real chance you'll go to prison. the SFN terms and conditions do not limit what you can say, they inform you that if you behave in a certain manner(contrary to the rules) then punishments will occur. from the locking of a thread to a permanent ban. i've never seen any agreement that physically stops you from saying something. just agreements saying that you agree to undergo a punishment if you do say it.
