i said left. /me shiftily draws attention away from the editted notification. yeah but if it is less dense than aire then it'll move left, if it is more dense then it will move right
-
it'll move to the left. justification, buoyancy. the air is heavier than the balloon. if it was a air filled balloon i would agree with YT
-
i imagine, they would have a relative velocity of zero. as long as it is in freefall, as air resistance becomes significant tey will rise to the top

this is the internet, £20 says someone out there has a fetish for it. flu is infectious. as far as i am aware, sexual preference is not.
-
because you can get the former out of asda for £3 while a suit will set you back a bit.

Personally, i am with you on the point that i think it looks stupid. i also think black people doing it look pretty stupid as well. on the other hand, i really don't care. If they want to look like idiots then they can I won't stop them but I won't join them. As for adopting the dialect, imitaion is the greatest form of flattery. maybe he is doing it because he likes it. not for jest not for kidding around but because he likes it.

i've had DSL booting from a pendrive (256 MB) i don't see why it wouldn;t be possible, you just need to configure your BIOS to boot from the USB first. if you can't then go get a copy of the superGRUB disk and that'll redirect the boot to the pendrive. ubuntu is 2GB btw. cooling wasn't an issue for me. i don't see how it would boot 300% faster though as the data rates can be slower than a harddrive though the seek latency is MUCH lower.

possible future contribution to forum

sure go for it. as long as it doesn't turn out like farsights '... EXPLAINED!' 'essays' i'm sure it will be useful. if it is useful then it will be stickied, or at least referenced often. -
Is Stephen Hawkings "A BRIEF HISTORY OF TIME" Good reading.
insane_alien replied to Killa Klown's topic in The Lounge
its a good read but it is not to be confused with a technical article. if you ant hard science, go find a scientific journal. 'A Brief History of Time' is more geared towards the general public. -
its been done before, what bombus said is true, there is no net gain. you can do the same thing with standard electrolysis. this is just a wireless version.

d orbital vs s orbital... a small chemistry question
insane_alien replied to albertlee's topic in Chemistry
half filled orbitals are more stable than 4s2 and 3d4 a half filled orbital is still reactive unlike a fully filled orbital but it is preferrable over the other options available. to have 2 electrons in the 4s2 but only 4 in the 3d orbital is at a higher energy, things like low energies. -
Extremely difficult question from an IQ test...
insane_alien replied to w=f[z]'s topic in Brain Teasers and Puzzles
if it is to do with chemistry then K is way way off the mark so is U B V etc. etc. -
i'm not sure if the copper foil will peel or not but it will definitely cut through it.

The Black Hole at The Center of The Universe
insane_alien replied to astrocat's topic in Astronomy and Cosmology
umm, when it compacts on landing its because there is a big force acting on it. it does not need to expand first while on the second it would need to compact yeah, cause solids really expand from a few pascals change in presure. umm have you done any physics at all? the potential energy gets given up as kinetic energy. then some of that kinetic energy gets turned into heat with friction in the air and will heat the ball. it will only cool once it has landed. if your not sure about the ball compacting still, analyse a rock falling through water. if you still think it expands as the pressure get greater then we'll talk. -
yeah, most of QM sounds like mumbo jumbo to me. i get few thiings like electron orbitals though. observation in this case means interaction. when you say is at an electron interacting with a photon it doesn't sound so wierd.

the NIST are not my heroes. i don't know why they didn't investigate it. i'm going on what i have seen in videos and pictures along with my knowledge of science. maybe it was because their focus was on the cause of collapse and not what happened after. remember the cause and effect thing we talked about earlier?

well, i couldn't find a picture of the material i wanted so i thought i'd just slip that in as a blooper. number 5 is actually steel. well, done. although, it is n the first page of a google image search. i like how on the link you posted, the 'examples of molten steel' are actually solid. and the red hot material picked up by the claw is solid. also, the fact that the eyewitnesses were first hand accounts, doesn't really help. if you can mistake it in a picture then you can mistake it in reallife. the point i am trying to get across here is that first hand information is not always reliable. the most information we can glean of them is that there was a molten substance that was red/yellow hot.the source also does not allow for the variations in emissivity which can affect the colour/temperature corelation.
-
but you are going on eyewitness's. why don't you have a go at the test. then see how reliable you think the witnesses would have been. even just do it for kicks.
-
but can you trust their opinion? the point of the test is to show that anyone will not be able to tell what the material is beyond, red glowing and fluid.
-
this has everything to do with it. you are showing videos and pictures claiming to show molten steel. who says so? are you sure thats molten steel? can you say 100% that that could be nothing other than steel. if it is so obvious, try the test.
-
very nice ad hominem attack. not really making your side look good on a debating ground though is it? anyway, the scientist in me has devised a little experiment that will hopefully prove that humans(especially the casual observer) is extremely bad at identifying molten substances by sight alone. i will post 10 pictures and i want you to guess what the substance is. later on after everybody has had a go, i will post links to the origional pictures so you can check for your selfs that i wasn't lying. since steel is being talked about in this thread, i have included it in the line up. see if you can guess which one it is. each material shows up once and once only. 1/ http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j256/insane_alien_2006/1.jpg 2/ http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j256/insane_alien_2006/2.jpg 3/ http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j256/insane_alien_2006/3.jpg 4/ http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j256/insane_alien_2006/4.jpg 5/ http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j256/insane_alien_2006/5.jpg 6/ http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j256/insane_alien_2006/6.jpg 7/ http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j256/insane_alien_2006/7.gif 8/ http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j256/insane_alien_2006/8.gif 9/ http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j256/insane_alien_2006/9.jpg 10/ http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j256/insane_alien_2006/10.gif if you do not agree that this is fair please tell me and point out where there is flaw. obviously i can't try this as i know which is which. if this is successful it will show that the average joe looking at videos on the net cannot tell what a glowing red liquid substance is. heck, even your professional paul would have trouble. and no using google.
-
you know what, out of all he videos that show 'molten steel' i have not seen a single one where you could conclusively say without a doubt that it is a molten metal. well, actually i tell a lie. i have seen one. it was of a guy using a cutting torch to break apart some steel beams for removal. the liquid flowing off that was definitely steel.

because they know that no matter how much evidence they put forward there will always be a group of crazies who still believe its a cover up because the NIST is part of 'the establishment'. those people are never convinced, they would argue that all fire trucks are luminous purple and spray fire everywhere and run on molten lava. it is pointless to debate with these people as they just do not want to know. yes, in the DEMOLTION industry, not the fire services. this could just as easily be a phrase used in place of 'pull out' ordering the firefighters to retreat because it is too dangerous. IIRC shaped charges are used instead of thermite as they are much more efficient. and also easier to set up to cause a simultaneous collapse. thermite would be messy. you would have different bits breaking through at hugely different times. also, you will have to explain how the trigger system survived as long as it did in the fire. the rescuers probably knew it was going to collapse to. nobody knew when though. the building gave way without much warning and i'm sure if they weren't helping people out then the toll could have been higher.

it is relevant because you are looking at the data from the wrong perspective. this is often done when somebody wants to make the data look like it is completely wrong. if your mind is too open it gets filled with crap. we do have open minds, its just we have a set of filters often called 'logic' and 'scientific method' that catch the bad stuff. in other words, for us to accept something as truth, we need evidence for it. until it has that then its truth is unknown. and there can be evidence that explicitly rules out certain scenarios.

nope, the relationship with time isn't linear. acceleration is the one you want. i'm not saying there were explosives in the tower. i'm saying there weren't its you guys who are saying that it was explosives not me. i'm saying why it couldn't have been explosives.
