what about the GM crops we've been eating for centuries? bananas for example. and if you go to korean markets then you can pick up genetically modified meats(dogs). the method didn't involve a lab but its still GM
-
i'd eat them. they would still have to go through the same checks that the rest of our food goes through.

hydrogen(pure at any rate) is quite safe, even if you light it. think about the hindenburg. a heck of a lot more hydrogen (that even had some oxygen in it which makes it more explosive) did just blow up and take out 3 square miles/ it burned slowly shedding fire balls upward as the hydrogen bags burst. it was actually quite a safe combustion(if you convieniently forget the people strapped to the underside of it and those jumping to their deaths.) i would feel more comfortable with a tank of hydrogen than a tank of petrol

aj, ask that again when you get a disease in some organ or other. then think long and hard about it. we ain't going to learn anything if we don't take a look and prod things.

yeah but bone marrow donation hurts have you seen the size of needle they stick into you bones?
-
well, they give permission to harvest them while they are still living and occasionally the donor may be alive if its a kidney transplant or partial liver transplant.

yes and the must be surrounded by a border of amusing doodles as they would be if i was taking notes.
-
do you want to go to my thermo lectures then?
-
no such thing as a compound element. please, start a different thread rather than hijacking someone elses.

yes but what about the people handing out all the leaflets? they really suck, i was walking down the street(coincidentally eating a sarnie out of greggs) and asked me if i ever went to subway when it was obvious i wasn't even interested. so naturally i chucked the remainder of my sandwich at him(don't worry it wasn't that good the mayonaise had started to turn)

heh i had my career all planned out throughout my life. its just the plans changed a lot. originally i wanted to be an astronaut, then an arcaeologist(still can't spell it), then a pilot, then i wanted to go into the RAF but i seem to have settled on being a chemical engineer. although that list starts from when i was about 7. and the last change was 2 months before i picked courses to apply to. so nothing is set this early. you still got plenty of time to change your mind or whatever.

ecoli, come to glasgow, you'll learn to loathe subway.

more to the point, if he has insufficient mathematical background to write it then how does he know that its any different from SR

but light always travels at c relative to ALL observers. if A was travelling away from B at 0.99 c then he would see light(assuming there was a reflective medium so he could guage the speed at which light is receding his ship) at c relative to him. with the beam heading towards B, B would see it approaching him at c(yeah, i know you can't see light approaching you its just a thought experiment) also, A and B are inter changeable. according to A, B is travelling away from him at 0.99c and according to B, A is travelling away from him at 0.99c there is no possible experiment to say which one is moving without another reference point but then you have the same problem, there is no reference to know whether that point is stationary. with relation to the rest of the universe. more over it is impossible to know if the universe is moving.

I'm a big fan of the classic sandwiches, tuna mayonaise. with some lettuce, cucumber and spring onion through it. its the closest thing to ambrosia this world has. i'm eating one now while furiously typing away at my lab report and this post. god i procrastinate too much.

actually hydrogen under pressure is lousy. at least if you compare it to hydrogen stored in the form of metal hydrides. thiis is currently what would be used if we mass produced fuel cells. metal hydrices can contain about 3times more hydrogen than if you have a block of hydrogen ice as the hydrogen source for equal volume apparently. a battery/supercap back up system would also still be there just for back up and fuel efficiency.

well if they are left to rot in the body they don't stand a chance of helping anyone. if they are transplanted then the could extend someones life by a couple years possibly decades with new anti rejection drugs.

my question was answered before my crappy connection allowed me to post

where the hell is IC? i can't see it anywhere.
-
nope, i signed up as an organ donor. after i'm dead they can do whatever the hell they like with the bits leftover. i won't need them any more

the diamagnetic idea is actually not too shaby and you could probably get away with it in a novel. first of all, it goesn't negate gravity at all just counters it. but gravity isn't a factor here, just incredible accelerations. while humans are slightly diamagnetic and could in theory levitate a slight problem is encountered when you consider 1. the sheer massivenes of the magnets needed 2. electrons will be ripped from the nuclei of every atom in your body resulting in some rather nasty disintegration with lightning effects thrown in due to the immense currents. but for a novel its perfectly feasible. for slowing down, you could incorporate a blackhole into the equation. have the star system orbiting a black hole and you should be able to dump enough momentum onto the sun(or the black hole depending on respective masses). The good bit about this method is that you are in freefall ALL THE TIME. that means the crew experiences a grand total of 0g although it will take slightly longer than the ultra magnets of doom. maybe a couple of months.

then why did you bring isotopes up? if you were trying to be sarky then you'll need to wait till we know you better.
-
so you obviously have no idea what an isotope is. An isotope is an atom of some element(lets take hydrogen as an example) with a number of neutrons. Hydrogen has 3 main isotopes, H-1 (only a proton) H-2 (1 proton, 1 neutron) and H-3(1 proton, 2 neutrons) it goes up to H-7 but they don't last very long. the three main isotopes are also called protium, deuterium and tritium respectivley

the order and number of base pairs. lotsa things. its kind of like whats the difference between 'war and peace' and 'les miserables' too many differences to count.
