and what the hell has that got to do with mass in relation to velocity?

Whats the most painful thing you've ever experienced
insane_alien replied to blike's topic in The Lounge
hmm lets see, i had a tooth pulled but the anaesthetic hadn't kicked in yet. that was pretty painfull. i dislocated my leg when snowblading down a mountain then tried to walk on it. not the best idea i've ever had. when they put it back in it hurt more than when it was dangling free. i'll never forget the sound it made. -
it is shown mathematically by E=mc^2 which basically says that energy has mass. obviously going near c means you have a lot of energy. enough to manifest itself as a noticeable amount of mass.

well, they could deflect weapons(projectile) just now if we made one big enough and supplied it with enough power and plasma. its already being used to hold back 1 atm of pressure.

DRAGONS,Myth or Reality?
insane_alien replied to kenshin's topic in Evolution, Morphology and Exobiology
yeah, it waas the repeated use of 'z' that threw me off. i mean, its quite a bit away from the 'g' key so i thought it was on purpoe and you just botched the rest of the spelling(i was assuming you had never seen the word written and had spelt it phonetically) -
DRAGONS,Myth or Reality?

i think you mean Hydrazine rather than hydrozen. isn't hydrazine a rather nastily reactive compound that will burn itself without the need for atmospheric oxygen? -
DRAGONS,Myth or Reality?
insane_alien replied to kenshin's topic in Evolution, Morphology and Exobiology
Lets look at the facts. 1. It never made any big public news and something like that would. 2. Discovery channel has gone WAY downhill. I'm gonna say 999/1000 its complete bunk EDIT: dammit dr dalek ninja'd my post. ok with what he said, then i change my opinion to, it was supposed to be a speculative documentary on what would happen if dragons were real. much like other alternate history documentaries such as "hitlers britain" where the nazi's won the second world war. -
If they don't want to admit that they got something a bit fumbled and made a mistake and then try to disprove centuries of science because of that, they shouldn't be trying to argue the point anyway.

seemed pretty easy for me with HL2. 1.download wine with synaptic(well i used aptitude but synaptic is the GUI for aptitudee basically) 2. initialize wine by typing "wine" in the console. 3. download steam and install it by "wine /pathtoinstallfile/steam.exe" 4. just download it if you can't be bothered getting it off the cd it works like it was on windows

Humongous ball of gas traveling pretty fast
insane_alien replied to silkworm's topic in Astronomy and Cosmology
its far too difuse to ignite. you can't light petrol if theres a metre between the molecules. -
i am so jealous of you. congratulations.

Windows not working - need Half Life 2 and Steam :(
insane_alien replied to -Demosthenes-'s topic in Computer Help
temporarily, you could get HL2 and steam on ubuntu with WINE. tutorial here: http://www.linux-gamers.net/modules/wiwimod/index.php?page=HOWTO+Steam I tried it and it works. pretty soon i won't even need windows for games and it will merely be uni sofware keeping me tied to it. -
emulating requires downloading a program called WINE or Cedega(either one works but i like WINE) and then using a command line to open the program you want through WINE and it should then work normally. Ubuntu is a distro of linux thats designed to be easy to use but still as functional as all the other distros. meaning it can be used by beginners or advanced users. there is no normal linux as far as i'm aware. not a clue why your asking so many questions. a sedative may help in this regard. yeah ubuntu is a pretty crazy word.
-
linux CAN be all of those things but thats usually the rare case. Ubuntu is a distro that is incredibly simple, won't screw up your machine(no linux distro will screw up your machine if you use it properly) most window programs and games can be emulated fine in linux with a bit of work. i got half life 2 working in ubuntu with little trouble. download the ubuntu live CD and burn it if you want to see what its like without installing it. and if you do decide to install it, you can keep windows as well.

just get linux. its ALL freeware. and you have more choices than you can shake a stick at for which distro, browser, word processor etc. they are all of similar quality and often of greater qualty than the microsoft counter parts.

fill a tub up to the brim with water chuck the human in question into the tub. fully submerge. remove said human. measure how much water was lost. simple.

oops, i never realised that this was the math forum. i just got here from "new posts". yeah it probably is a 50/50 probability or close to it if its not. P.S. i can't find anything about nitro randomly exploding below 13c. infact, i found loads of sites saying that it is cooled to 5-10c to desensitize it to vibrations. and 99/100 colder = more stable.
-
nitro is stable at very cold temperature isn't it?
-
i have a question. is there a possibility that you can leave the container and chemical in a bath of liquid nitrogen? if so then i would say its probably safe to leave the lab if not i would say that you should probably do some tests first although, in reality you can usually guesstimate from the structure whether its stable or not and infer the structure from the reactants and any other products that were produced/used in the making of X

I was randomly surfing around the net and i found this thing called a "Plasma Window" http://www.bnl.gov/bnlweb/pubaf/pr/2001/bnlpr121101b.htm apparently it is a device that uses plasma to form a barrier against any matter but let energy through. apparently if you use argon for the plasma it looks like the force fields in startrek cargo bays. its being used in the welding industry to hold back the atmosphere from an electron beam in electron beam welding. but its about 80kW per inch which is abit high for stuff just now. there is more about it in wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plasma_window

well, we froze those two dogs and woke them up afterwards. when was the last time we hijacked all I/O functions of the nervous system?
-
somehow i think it would be simpler just to freeze someone and revive them at the destination.

i'm an 8.
