Should we start heavily censoring what we say?

I am offended by your acceptance of sisyphus's challenge. -
life on an atmosphere-less planet
insane_alien replied to gib65's topic in Ecology and the Environment
the amount of radiation(X-rays and all that) at the surface would be substantially higher than here on earth especially if it didn't have a magnetic field. i would imagine that the life would be subterranean if it existed at all. -
the kubuntu installer will do it just make sure to do a few defragments on XP before hand other wise you might lose data.(if its above 100GB do at least 4 defragments). when you get to the partitioning stage shrink the NTFS(XP) partition to whatever size you want leaving some free space and then if you don't want a FAT32 partition to swap files then you can just hit auto assign. if you do want a FAT32 make a 5GB(although its up to you) FAT32 partition and then take your remaining un partitioned space and hit auto assign. the installer will then go and put kubuntu on and GRUB. GRUB lets you choose what OS to boot up and you can select a default and change the timer before it loads up the default (kubuntu unless you change it).

norton is almost definitely far superior as it is a matured antivirus program meaning that it has stood up to countless tests and is stable.

Near Earth Asteroid Moon Hit...what would happen?
insane_alien replied to RichF's topic in Astronomy and Cosmology
a fair percentage of the moons mass (maybe >2%) and travelling at a hefty speed >17km/s say. -

if we constructed our words to offend nobody then we would have no words. there is always someone who will be offended by anything. censorship sucks. -
Near Earth Asteroid Moon Hit...what would happen?
insane_alien replied to RichF's topic in Astronomy and Cosmology
RichF a 400m asteroid would do relatively little to our moon. a little flash and it would be gone. probably the equivalent of a few megatons of TNT. even a 10000m wide asteroid would probably still only scar the surface but it would be a much better light show followed by a meteor shower from impact debris. -
unexplained nosebleeds
insane_alien replied to insane_alien's topic in Anatomy, Physiology and Neuroscience
ecoli, depends whether it arose due to randomness or injury. sophster, i am currently a student, i have £1000 in the bank and no job (although i'll get one soon) moving house ain't an option. -
unexplained nosebleeds
insane_alien replied to insane_alien's topic in Anatomy, Physiology and Neuroscience
i doubt its a low platelet count as i have none of the other syptoms and i also doubt that its weak blood vessels since it hasn't happened in a long time. could be the pollen thing though, i have bad hayfever. i was just wondering what causes them. -
small, thats a fully fuelled shuttle stack(the orbiter, ET and SRB's) the orbiter only weighs in at about 50 tonnes. the shuttle can kind of be launched from a 747 but its more of a pull up over the tail and glide down thing.

Capn, the router probably came with an initial configuration program which needs to be used by a computer hardwired to the router.

After haveing random nosebleeds twice recently (lastnight and just now) i have to wonder if there is a cause to these. both times i've just been sitting around and then i have a nice big bloodstain on my t shirt. this isn't normal for me either its been about 4 years since i last had a nosebleed and thats because i got kicked in the face.

uh huh. you mean it doesn't look like poo at all. in fact, it looks like a paste made out of nuts (peanuts before anyone makes an innuendo).
-
or, if your peanut butter looks like poo check the expiry date on the tub.

sophster: do not mock lest ye hath tried

cornflakes and peanut butter. the meal of gods. either that or chocolate spread.

i would say a fast release because that means that external heat hasn't had enough time to be absorbed by the slightly colder can and beer once the pressure has started to drop.

ok i got it done using partimage. the drive is now dead and smells of burning so i don't think its gonna come back. i just hope the image is fine.
-
Ok, my laptop (a thinkpad R50e) has a hard drive thats beginning to fail, so, while its still useable i want to get an image of the recovery partition and store it on my PC until i get a new harddrive. i don't want to spend a lot of money for programs like norton ghost because i would only use it once or twice before its outdated and then useless. i have found 1 program that can get an image of it but it uses its own format (.arc) that is useless because i can't burn to DVD with that. So, eh, how would i go about getting an image of this?

How long until keyboards/mice are obsolete?
insane_alien replied to bascule's topic in Computer Science
there are the keyboards(i use that term loosely here) that are actually small laser projectors and will project the layout onto any surface and you just hit the part of the table that is marked as a key to type. not strictly a keyboard and they exist today. -
have a google around for it. most of these pyramids are supposedly able to transmute gold into "the philosophers stone". yeah... not too believeable.

Advance of Mercury's perihelion (the right solution)
insane_alien replied to tsolkas's topic in Trash Can
4. what makes you think that the center of mass(the right one) has not been factored into the calculation using both newtonian and einsteinian gravity?
