  1. doG: the materials are defined as incompressible because for most conditions we can create outside the pressures at the detonation of a nuclear device, they are practically incompressible.
  2. welcome to the wacky world of relativity. if ou think this stuff is confusing, try and visualize a 4 dimensional cube then a 5 dimensional cube or take a peek at quantum mechanics.
  3. MMM... Genocideflakes.
  4. again it would be limited to just below c since the force applied to the pivot to close the blades travels at the speed of light, if you had blades 1 light year long then the tips would feel no effect until 1 year after the blades started closing so the time taken to close the blades woul be just greater than 1 year. if the speed of light was not a limit then this could be done
  5. this isn't nature, its football. there are only three possible outcomes, win, lose or draw. the decision is trinary and the answer is most often win or lose.
  6. are you sure the mother board can handle the cpu? even if it fits, it doesn't mean that it has the necessary hardware to be compatible.
  7. a single infinite planar plate would have a uniform electric field i believe
  8. well you would describe the sun as a fire ball but theres no oxygen(well, a little) there either. a flame is just ionized gas anyways.
  9. ummm... yeah... my bad. /me hides his PC for a few years.
  10. this 50p coin i have has made more accurate predictions than your universal mind, 2/3 so far.
  11. Thats perfectly accurate. its just that the outer ear and the little bones filter out the higher frequencies because they're a bit squishy. if you use the skull as the entry point for the sound, the vibrations can be transferred to the cochlea much more effectively with less high frequency loss.
  12. well humans can hear upto about 50kHz if you bypass the outer ear and transmit the sound through the bone...
  13. sure thats not the FSB? try a program called everest, http://www.lavalys.com/ just use the free version, its an awesome specs program gives you everything.
  14. sorry for the late reply but i've been on holiday. 1. the only wavelegnths(frequencies) that have the right amount of energy to intereact with the electrons in glass are invisible to our eyes. this inly means that we have to use a camera that can see these wavelegnths to observe the effects. 2. steel(and all other metals and metal alloys) are a whole different story... the electrons in metals and alloys that bond the atoms together and the ones that the light would interact with, are all floating about in a kind of sea through out the metal. the has the strange effect of allowing practically ANY frequency of light to interact. this is why they appear silvery and are usually impervious to X-rays, ultraviolet, visible light, infra-red(well once you get to these longer wavelegnths its a bit different but close enough)
  15. well, seeing as the new parachutes usually have a manual backup release on the underside of the pack and are generally quite reliablly packed i wouldn't have a problem taking it. the older parachute would still be in good condition and unless donalds law of entanglement has interfered with the cords the parachute should open fine. i wouldn't have a problem taking that one either. so, the problem is reduced to a matter of time. Since both will have a similar arrangement of straps that require contortions of a ridiculous and superfluous nature that will take roughly equal time to put on. in the end they are both equal. personally i would go for the older type as i have more experience with that type.
  16. wait till i find my booklist for next year. i'm sure its around here somewhere. if i don' get back to you its because i'm 1000miles away from my computer.
  17. i've had this problem on 98se before. go to tools -> options -> File types in WMP click select all(assuming this is the only media player you want) and then click apply. should be solved. if you only want it to play certain files then you'll need to select those from the list yourself.
  18. ok, to start with, light is made up of these little particles called photons. these photons interact with the atoms of a material by shoving the electrons of the atoms about. These electrons only have a certain number of places they can be and each place takes a certain amount of energy to get there. if a photon shoves an electron into a different place the photon is absorbed and the energy is what makes the electron jump. if this happens, light of this energy(frequency) will not pass through the material. if the photon that hits the electron doesn't have the right amount of energy to shove it into a different place then it just passes on by as if nothing happened. these photons pass through the material. in glass there are no places for the electrons to go that have the same energy as a photon of visible light so all the photons pass through and a few are reflected. If you look at glass in the UV spectrum(we can't see it but we can make cameras that can. glass is completely opaque(you can't see through it at all) this explains why you can't get a suntan in a greenhouse(no UV gets through) This is a simplified explanation but its basically true.
  19. watch out, freddy's about.
  20. never seen loch ness look like that. come to think of it, i've never seen a loch in scotland where the water was that shade of blue, usually a steel grey sort of colour
  21. couldn't the same effect be had by pumping nyquil into the water supply?
  22. WTF does one of them look like? Did you just pick up a battery off the shelf in asda labelled "battery for experimental home use"?
  23. or you toss around when sleeping like me. i've put fair sized dents in the walls by doing that.
