it was crap when sunshine said it, it's crap now you're repeating it.

or buy a big ol block of dry ice. or a fire extinguisher.

well, except from CO, soot and other agglomerations of partially burnt carbon if you're burner isn't set up right. not to mention un burnt methane.

That won't work. for the fission to supply enough temperature for fusion to start it essentially needs to be a bomb. However, there are more viable hybrid designs out there. What you do is you take all your fission waste products(or even U-238) melt them and pump the resulting fluid through a jacket on the fusion reactor wall. The excess neutrons from the fusion will fission the heavy elements contained there releasing more heat which you can use to get more power and deal with the problem of long lasting nuclear waste. Also, if you're interested in methods of sparking off a fusion reaction, you might want to look into the exotic methods of muon catalysed fusion and antimatter catalysed fusion.

They aren't being censored. they are allowed to say whatever they like on the pulpit. However, when they say certain things it disqualifies them from being eligble for other benefits. a good parallel would be entering a writing competition. Now, there is nothing STOPPING you copying a classic novel and submitting it. But by doing so you are making yourself ineligble to win the contest. The criteria to be eligble for the tax exemption(as well as other criteria) is you don't get political. If you get political you don't get exemption. Where is the censorship? They won't break the door down and gag the pastors or lock them up, they'll just require them to pay taxes. Nothing more, Nothing less. If they don't pay the taxes then they'll be convicted of tax dodging. I doubt their exemption will be revoked for minor infringements such as mentioning a politician but for more gross violations such as proclaiming <insert hated candidate here> is Satan/Jesus in disguise and stuff of a similar nature. Saying stuff like "I had a talk with <insert political figure> and he said the work we were doing for charity was great etc. etc." is unlikely to get tax exemption removed.

simple solution, remove tax exempt status from all religious organisations.

what equation describes this trend?

tell that to the people who were on board the gimli glider. units are VERY worth being VERY explicit about. for instance, if you went to a bank and the offered you an account with 2 interest, how do you know if its good or not? it could be 2% per year or it could be 2% per millenium or it could even be 2 kiwi fruits total. if you think units don't matter then please never enter a career path that involves mathematics in any way shape or form. -
dale, please, look up the concept of equilibriums. and not just the definition of it. go into some detail on what actually happens. and yes, it can contract and heat up. this will happen if there is a drop in fusion rates(such as casued by an over expansion). its only really a cyclical process like that in variable stars. most stars have reached a stable equilibrium where the fusion rate is near constant so the core isn't expanding or contracting very much. stellar dynamics are complicated because you need to pull in models from all sorts of fields. from fluid mechanics to high energy physics. trying to simplify this down to a few forum posts for someone unrelated to the field would be impossible. there are many many papers on stellar dynamics and most relate only to one aspect of the fusion process in stars. it's only when physicists model the internal dynamics of a star do they all come together, but to do that requires a super computer. and even then it requires multiple people to contribute the equations from their own particular expertise to make the complete model. on the plus side we get cool movies like this (shows an example of when equilibrium is broken.

all other things being equal, fusion rates increase with temperature. what matters for fusion is the numebr of particles that collide with enough momentum to overcome electrostatic repulsion barrier. so, first off that means there is a minimum temperature before the particles will be able to fuse. as for a given temperature there is a distribution of momentums, the hotter, the more of this distribution is above the lower limit for fusion. ALSO, the higher the temperature(and pressure) the more collisions there are. so for high fusion rates you want high temperatures and high pressures. now for the sun. The core of the sun is roughly constant pressure. So, if the core heats up due to an excess amount of fusion it EXPANDS. When it expands it COOLS so more of the momentum distribution is below the barrier and it gets less DENSE so there are fewer collisions. this results in a decrease in fusion rates. Is this really so hard to understand? also, cold fusion is in no way shape or form confirmed. I honestly don't know why you keep on harping on about it.

hydrogen power isn't in the market because of a few reasons. 1/ currently more expensive. 2/ currently less energy density than petrol 3/ efficient fuelcells with the power density needed for automotive transport are still maturing. but saying all that, you CAN but a fuel cell car if you're willing to fork out the money for it, so the market does exist. i don't see what the education system has to do with this. reality works the same way everywhere. you can't change reality because it does not give a crap what you think is a good idea. it just so happens that captain panic and myself are engineers who know exactly how stuff like the device in question should behave. and it won't work as described. its like saying you've invented a car that will run uphill forever without an engine. sure, you can claim thats what you've done, and you could even make a demonstration model that would appear to function like that as long as you didn't let anyone look too carefully at it, but you have not achieved what you said you achieved.

why? hot plasma IS less dense if it's at the same pressure. also, less dense plasma does have a lower rate of fusion. plasma will also cool off when emitting blackbody radiation. and gravity can compress plasma. nothing he said is false.

yep, there'll be something concealed all right. look, if you actually performed a proper analysis on it, you'd find it was complete rubbish.

thats not science, thats just jumping to conclusions without evidence. also known as pseudoscience.

http://www.sigmaaldrich.com/catalog/ProductDetail.do?lang=en&N4=244864|ALDRICH&N5=SEARCH_CONCAT_PNO|BRAND_KEY&F=SPEC 50 grams for £80 not sure what it's like i nthe states but here in th UK hobby suppliers will usually sell at only slightly higher prices than sigma aldrich(sigma only supplies organizations)
-
meh, i just looked up sigma aldrich. you can usually find hobby suppliers that will supply the chemicals at a similar price except on stuff that requires stuff like low temperature storage and what not.

well, no, all my lab funds for the next year are planned out.

What is the height of Jupiter's atmsophere?

MRlogic, care to back up that claim? i don't think we have data to support that. -
$5 per GRAM???? whit? i don't think you'll find many people to take you up on that. yeah, just double checked that. most suppliers will supply for about half that price.

assuming that measures have been taken to prevent them displacing true salmon (limited to fish farms, rendered sterile, whatever) and they've been through at least some basic tests to make sure no toxins are generated because of the change(toxins that are present in the original fish are fine) then i'll eat it.

ah brilliant. finally some downtime while i'll be sleeping rather than awake

that may be, but it is still a paltry dataset. more data would be needed before you could even think about making predictions as well. just because that is all the ones we have discovered, does not mean that those are the only ones out there. also, i count 10 systems with 3 or more. http://www.princeton.edu/~willman/planetary_systems/
-
because your data set is limited to 7 systems. hardly the most comprehensive data set ever, and you didn't HAVE to put in predictions. and infact, you SHOULDn't have put in predictions. i would estimate that if you had data on 100 or more planetary systems then the data would be a better fit to a straight line. but again, this doesn't mean anything other than you sorted your dataset the way you sorted it. it has no physical significance at all.

i was planning to attach a sheet showing the exact same thing but for some reason the forum said i dodn't have permission to upload a .xls file.

not yet. largely mars is too cold and dry (not to mention the really low pressure). but if you set up a green house on mars it should be reasonable to expect something to grow.
