right first of all burning H2 requires oxygen which is counter productive, try using fusion reactors to provide the heat. if your going to insist on increasing the gravity of the moon then here is how you do it. 1.collect practically all of the major asteroids from the asteroid belt and the jovian asteroids plus a few of jubiters smaller moons. 2.clump them all together (gravity will do this for you) put it in orbit around jupiter and let ganymede crash into it 3.besides the fact that it is now nolonger ganymede you have increased gravity. 4. you might want some oceans so why not crash Europa into it as well

can you not make a mini dyson sphere around the planet to hold in an atmosphere? its more fesable(sp?) whats your idea for making an atmosphere? i'm interested fusion power and electric heaters you can get the fuel from jupiter just send down some big gas collectors to skim the jovian atmosphere and filter out what you don't need.

Lucid Dreams as good as regular REM?
insane_alien replied to Nevermore's topic in Psychiatry and Psychology
Lucid dreaming requires greater mental activity which uses up more energy than REM sleep. so you can wake up feeling groggy and its not as good. never had sleep paralysis before, is it common? -
Basically yes. gravity applies an acceleration to objects and the acceleration is the same for everything. You would be surprised how many people think gravity applies a speed. Now if you bring in air resistance then the bowling ball would hit first since the golf ball would experience (relatively) a greater drag force.

Why is there no forum for (insert field here)?
insane_alien replied to Sayonara's topic in Suggestions, Comments and Support
How about a forum where we can post methods for extracting chemicals and elements from everyday things like bleach, paint etc.(mabye a sub forum of chemistry) i'm thinking along the lines of YT's thread about tin. The reason i think a seperate forum would be better is because some people who visit the chemistry forum don't have that good access to chemicals (under 18/ short on cash) so this could be a way of obtaining them. -
it doesn't work. a pressure of one bar (101,500 Pa) could lift water up by 10.347 meters assuming a complete vacuum sucking it up if the centrifuge equilibriumpoint is < 10m then it could work but its no planets are spinning that fast.

the pump would have to be at the bottom

thats my problem, yourdad. lasers=fun biotech=usefulness + better job prospects but then i have seen the lasers and they do look big and shiny and lasery and cool and stuff and big and shiny. **drools**

lots and lots of power and then some more power. need to genetically modify some plants so they are able to survive the conditions and then plant billions of them(i nominate YT for the plants, he likes gardening). heat up the polarcaps to melt them and then continue heating up the rest of the planet till around 17*C

you probably wouldn't be able to get a whole sphere but you could probably get it close
-
but what about the way that the brain interprets the signals from the eye could that lead to a difference?
-
umm it could be since i know a lot of people who wouldn't know how to start a fire to keep warm. unless they had a lighter or some matches. they also wouldn't know how to hunt. since there are a lot of people who depend on technology and don't bother learning some basic stuff if technology dissapeared they wouldn't stand much of a chance

i never thought of looking at it like that... thanks skye.

no. it doesn't matter. its more of a philosphy question type thing.

right i need to pick an elective class for MEng in Chemical Engineering nad i have worked it down to 3 possibles. 1. Engineering Physics: All about waves (sound and light) but you get to use some really cool and big lasers 2. Intoduction to process biotechnology: examines some extraction and production processes and you get to make BEER! i don't like biology that much and i haven't done any since second year in highschool. 3. biomedical engineering: sounds cool with loads of cyborg type stuff and artificial organs but again i'm not too keen on biology. any advice? i'm currently leaning towards No.2

i've always wondered about this as well so your not alone. like what i see as green it might be someone elses orange. but i think it would be more similarthan that.

Are A levels and GCSE's getting easier??
insane_alien replied to bloodhound's topic in Science Education
up in scotland the Advanced highers are the supposed equivalent of A-levels although the paper is harder and its only taught in one year with no bother. I passed all of mine -
yup i always cook the haggis in my house. everything else to do with cooking and i'm crap. i can also fix things with lots of duct tape. <edit> oops forgot to put my point in. if people stick to their talents and drop the issue of biological differences then we would all get along fine.

the only thing that i might consider to be extremeism is that i strongly believe that schools should be religion free.
-
i'm not really a big fan of math but i'm doing an engineering couse that has a lot of maths but i know it will be worth it. i suppose it should be the same thing for you with chem. if you can understand whats being said and do the work then you will be fine. its chemical engineering i'm doing btw.
-
yeah i suppose. hey if they generate power it all helps at least until we can get a fusion reaction where we get a net energy gain.
-
i could make technology needed to survive if i was dumped somewhere without anything. (fire, clothes, hunting tools (spear, bow and arrow, big rock), shelter if there isn't a handy cave nearby)

if i was a judge, personally, i would not have a problem with castrating a child molester in the most painful way possible and forcing them to eat their own genitalia. then have them put to death.
-
true unless its a lithium battery but they are damn expensive

actually i learned most of my knowledge about how to make bombs off of my chemistry teacher in 3rd year at highschool. and most of the textbooks since 1st year. since then its been experience. if you took away the internet people would still find perversions and how to make bombs and maybe turn into bad people. the internet is more like a catalyst than a source. And remember, a catalyst can work both ways and produce good people as well.
