I don't understand Zero or Negative Numbers - Teach Me the Basics
insane_alien replied to Klaplunk's topic in Mathematics
and how xactly is 0 a duality? saying it is does not make it so -
actually, compressed gas tanks will rarely go boom. more like HISSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSsssssss....... they have a pressure release valve(i say valve, its more of a burst disc) to deal with overpressure situations, any damage to this valve just makes it weaker and more likely to let go under operating loads so thats not an issue. and modern composites make it unlikely to burst from structural compromising such as a crack. the his may be extremely loud and possibly cause some hearing impairment, but it would otherwise leave you alive.

well, your equation doesn't make sense from a chemical point of view for one. why don't you start by defining the terms explicitly. also, 'particle speed of a pulse laser'? what particles are you talking about exactly?

I don't understand Zero or Negative Numbers - Teach Me the Basics

i suppose you also believe double negatives in english still reult in negatives too right? -
most types of glue can do that.

people who keep up to date with the latest in the field of translation for one. so, what about the physics? to which you still haven't gave a reply that indicates sentience.
-
wow, just wow. this tells use you haven't even seen the equations for einsteinian mechanics. they are capable of describing the mechanicsof movement accurately from 0m/s to c. Newtonian mechanics is only accurate up until about 0.1c when relativistic effects(handled by einsteinian mechanics and not by newtonian) become significant and the two theories diverge. you're right here actually(well, if taking that sentence literally. I feel that you meant to say that einstein addresses fewer circumstances which is a false proposition). einstein addresses far MORE circumstances than newton could hope to. actually, einsteinian mechanics DOES have its own version of newtons laws of motion. you should look them up, you might learn something. then reality is pure nonsense, oh no! a unicorn ate my hat and a honey badger fell out of my nostril.
-
emphasis mine. newton was the best at physics in his time. now his work has been superceeded by einsteinin mechanics on the grand scale and quantum mechanics on the small scale. put shortly, newton was inaccurate in his deductions. as time progresses we get a better understanding as further study is conducted. it has already been said you are using outdated translations yet you seem to hold this faulkner guy above error. you are also dodging questions again. i ask you again, assume that we are not utter morons.
-
you must be being deliberately obtuse. and to expect ANYONE with even a basic knowledge of physics to accept what you just said as true beggars belief.] why don't you start off by working on the assumption that we are not morons who have never seen a science book and get scared by by big words like 'rotation' or 'momentum'. because i can assure you, everybody responding to you is well versed in the things they bring up issues with, more so than you appear to be.
-
and again you prove you don't know your rotational physics. earth quakes can cause the earths rotation to increase by the same way you can increase your rotation by spinning on a computer chair with your arms out and then drawing them in. using some weights or tins of food magnifies the event. earthquakes are caused by the movement of mass. they can shift the mass either away, towards or parallel to the axis of rotation. if the mass is shifted towards the axis of rotation then the earth WILL speed up. this is basic newtonian physics. it doesn't require the moon, or any exchange of angular momentum with anything. you say you were employed by nasa, you say you taught physics etc etc but we just don't see any evidence of that. none at all. more of a 2 second google.

Finding an alien species and its effects on religion

if they have records then the religions will deny them, like they so always do until its to late to save any pretence that they were being sane about it. -

well, until they find out that they've never heard of this god guy. -
Technicium-99 DOES give off beta particles. but the half life is longer than that of the C-14 in your body which also decays be beta emission. So really, if you have nothing to worry about from C-14, a little bit of Tc-99 that gets flushed out quickly anyway isn't going to change much.

some are, some aren't. most notably, gas centrifuges.

Moontan wasn't being condescending. he just implied that something so obvious is going to attract the attention of the law as something like that is going to have a lot of consequences and require some planning. he was trying out that thing called humour. i thought he was moderately successful, nothing world class but worth a chuckle. one thing would be people driving near the site, its at night so it will be very obvious, they'll turn to look at it, be at least temporarily blinded/night vision gone and potentially crash. same goes for pilots who will have a clearer view of said fire. so yeah, the police and firebrigade WILL show up if you do that and there WILL be charges. not to mention you'll be directly responsible for a bunch of morons going 'look look aliens!' and 'the governments testing super secret weapons on our back door, we're being secretly irradiated/genetically altered/experimented upon' please don't inflict that upon society. when you're doing something that will affect a radius of a few miles you generally need to get permission from the authorities. and for good reason.

oh i have read every post in this thread, but still you have just ingored a good deal of questions and even more you have not answered sufficiently by giving either an irrelevant 'answer' or showing you don't really understand the principles of basic physics.
-
all very well, but its dodging some very good questions posed by others as well as myself.
-
anecdotes are not evidence. please provide some evidence.

that symptom is purely psychosomatic. if it was radioactive enough to stimulate your nerve cells directly (which i imagine would give an odd sensation) then you wouldn't have very long to live. as both you and rigney have survived long enough to at least post about it, i think we can assume that it wasn't THAT strong.
-
that mentions angular momentum only by twisting the meaning of the words to fit a modern context rather than the ancient context in twhich they were made. don't take things out of context because then the meaning can be misinterpreted. and you ARE misinterpreting the meaning of that quote. i suspect deliberately.
-
you make the mistake of assuming all earthquakes change the rotation in the same way(hint: they don't, some speed it up, some do nothing at all) and that each earthquake has roughly the same magnitude of effect(hint: they don't, but a general rule would be that the bigger the earthquake the bigger the effect). There are very few large earthquakes each year, the millions of earthquakes figure comes from minor tremors that can only be detected by instruments sensitive enough to pick up buildings being demolished at a fair distance.

Technetium-99 is made from the beta decay of Molybdenum-99. the m on the end indicates that the nucleus is metastable and will release a gamma photon and decay from Tc-99m to Tc-99 (which then beta decays to Ru-99 but with a long half life). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Technetium-99m this'll tell you all you need to know. its the half life thats 6 hours. so after 6hours, the radiation dose from the technicium will be half. after 12 hours it'll be a quarter and so on. after about 32 half lifes (192h) there will only be a tiny chance that there is even a single atom of Tc-99m left. but long before that your own natural radioactivity would swamp the radioactivity caused by the Tc-99m.

No, it will not provide a 100% conversion of solar energy. It would perform much worse than the current best contenders if at all.
-
well that was a waste of thirty seconds. it consists of 3 drawings of a 'perpetual' motion machine. seems to be two magnets in a tube. the mechanism of action is lacking even for a perpetual motion machine. utter rubbish really. yo get the link working you need to remove the '.it' at the end of the link.

theory of bargain? i'm going to assume you meant Boron instead of Bore. as for that being a compound, no. the Boron, Gallium and Indium could be used to make an alloy but Argon is very very inert. it will not form a compound. not sure what you expect that mixture to do.
