  1. thats exactly what you are asking us to do though but you're not speculating. and your proposing we remove all the rules behind speculation too. it wasn't an insult. read it again and don't assume the word ignorant automatically makes a sentence a personal insult. you have completely misunderstood 50:50. 50:50 means there is an equal probability of one thing happening over the other. a yes or no question could have a yes:no probability of 100:1 or 25:32. misapplication of universe. there can only be one universe by definition. also, evidence? this doesn't make sense on several levels, you are reffering to one specific monitor(the one in this universe) yet you put the others into the probability and then mess it up. infinity:infinity is not 50:50
  2. if you have a complaint against a moderator then use the report post button or PM another moderator. but i'm not sure what mooey has done to deserve a report, i've certainly never seen her abuse her powers.
  3. hang on, i'm on it. meanwhile you can just click the chat link at the top of the page fixed now, i completely forgot i had photobucket and these images were hosted there. i'll have a word with an admin about getting them hosted on SFN.
  4. jimmy, pioneer is known for not making a whole lot of sense or even being relevant to the conversation. if by some miracle he decides to respond directly to a question his answer is ALWAYS irreleveant, wrong and out of touch with reality.
  5. pioneer, do you actually read what people say or just make it up?
  6. that was a very silly film. i don't think it tells us anything useful about the core of the earth except that you need to go down to get to it.
  7. Another fine example of why we shouldn't listen to pioneer.
  8. actually, counterintuitively, microblack holes would blow. the hawking radiation coming off them would be immense. they wouldn't even make it to the walls of the collision chamber before decaying.
  9. well, the easiest ore to identify reliably is magnetite as it's magnetic(hence the name). look for geological surveys of your area as they should identify likely areas for iron ore. as for smelting, remember that you will need to mix some charcoal with the iron ore(don't set the mixture on fire itself though you need the carbon to be carbon as long as possible. for the furnace itsself, the easiest solution would probably be a partially burried clay pot with a smaller pot inside and burning charcoal surrounding it. i've had success reaching similar temperatures using this method (although my pots weren't burried so i had to insulate them). you will want to get yourself a pair of bellows(or make them yourself if you want) otherwise you will not reach the required temperatures very easily. you might want to start off with making bronze. its easier to do as it doesn't require as high a temperature.
  10. yess bombs are dangerous and you have just enough information there for people to hurt themselves quite badly. this violates the HAZMAT policy.
  11. Moontan, at that pressure and temperature the mercury would be solid. but still FAR too hot to be super conductive. there aren't many substances that ar super conductive ast such high temperatures.
  12. Energy and mass are different facets of the same thing. and taking a photon at rest is an invalid frame.
  13. actually, pseudoscience and speculations has even more rigorous rules than the rest of the forum seeing as it so easily attracts loonies. just because its in P&S doesn't mean you can just drop every standard science sets.
  14. well, they haven't structurally modelled an entire cat brain. that wasn't the goal. they have just simulated a collection of neurons that outnumbers that of a cat. given the right structural information, the computer would be capable of simulating an entire cat brain. as for robot cats, unless they're 50m tall, powered by a nuclear reactor and have giant whiskers made of radio antenas then no, we can't have robot cats.
  15. if you're just writing up a procedure for the experiment, what's wrong with just sticking a thermometer into it?
  16. well, we'd need more information to tell you what 'black river sand' was. a sample prefferably. but i doubt it is iron ore as it typically turns orange/red in a river.
  17. well, the only force that repulses the particles is electromagnetic in nature. and as the particles can only exhert a repulsive force inwards as space is so warped that all paths lead to the center, it is reasonable to assume that the particles are confined to a very small area. it is probably wrong to think of it as infinite density as it will occupy a plank volume at the very least.
  18. there is no 'human gene' as far as i know. we are not defined by a single gene but by much larger patterns in our genome and its not at all close to the pattern of a bacteria. so, the 'human' gene is not expressed in bacteria because it doesn't exist. i can't find any reference to a gene named as such.
  19. well, all the claims have been thouroughly debunked and nothing new was being offered so there isn't much to go on other than the OP insisting its a theory.
  20. while some of them are merely practicing debate skills, there is a core of people who really do still believe the earth is flat. there are also those who believe the earth is hollw and there is a giant 1000km wide hole at the north pole to the center that people have somehow missed all these years.
  21. because people always want to mix the definitions so it seems more important than it really is.
  22. you joined these forums just to necromance that?
  23. mixing masses like that is a bad idea, it only leads to confusion.
  24. also, using the correct equation woul be a good idea too. its E^2=(mc^2)^2 + (pc)^2 E=mc^2 only applies to the very specific scenario where momentum equals zero. all factors must be considered otherwise.
  25. over the distances concerned, the earth is flat. if you really want to be pedantic enough to consider a few parts per 10 million error then go ahead and do it in your own time. but the error limits on a class room demonstration are far bigger and its just not worth considering when other factors play a far more significant role in producing errors
