Sisyphus hit the major problem. plants rely on the sun, sunlight intensity and duration is key. with an undulating arrangement, you will get some area where growth is better, but also other areas where growth is poorer. it'll all average out so you have the same yield as before. although along with the other issues in the thread will probably result in you having less yield than before.

Beware of Compounds that liberate oxygen
insane_alien replied to sivas54's topic in Inorganic Chemistry
actually the OP is akin to the waring you get on a bag of nuts that read 'WARNING: May Contain Nuts' -
i wouldn't put any faith in them at all. i've done a few different ones(proper ones not just the crappy internet ones) and i've had results varying from clinically retarded to genius. also, you can have good and bad days as well. last thursday i felt like ass(had the flu) and made lots of silly mistakes when i was at uni(according to me 3*14 was 314 and it took me an hour to spot the mistake), today i feel like i'm made of awesome and have amanaged to get several problems that have been bugging me for weeks. IQ tests give only the most basic glimmer of intelligence but are easily upset by external factors. it might be you didn't sleep so good the night before, maybe there was roadworks outside throwing your concentration off, maybe you just had bad luck. if you're willing to put the work in and you have the right attitude(the way you posted earlier indicated that you do) then you'll be fine whatever the IQ test shows.

seeing as they aren't magnetic, no. but you could just grow the one big crystal which would only conduct along the one plane. not really sure what the use would be though.

and the fact that the air outside has a much lower water content means that the water vapour is going to tend to diffuse out.

how about the fact he doesn't interact with other members. he's soapboxing. just going on and on without bothering to respond to anything other people have said. that is against the rules.

Theory or vaporware? Can anyone show me?
insane_alien replied to CTD's topic in Evolution, Morphology and Exobiology
not yeat but if he continues the way he's going then he will be soon. probably after several suspensions -
the absolute humidity doesn't change, it is only the relative humidity that does. with the example of the refridgeration coil, the relative humidity increases to 100% then when condensation happens and water is removed from the air you get a decrease in absolute humidity. but there isn't such a decrease with a heater.

Genetically Engineered Crops - Greenpeace Says No
insane_alien replied to Pericles's topic in Genetics
since Dr.Syntax didn't answer the question at all there, GMO means Genetically Modified Organism. a plant(or animal or bacteria) that has underwent some form of genetic manipulation to achieve certain desirable traits. -
thought doesn't have a speed. although i guess you could give it a speed by using the speed of the nerve impulses in the brain. in that case the speed of thought can be exceeded by merely boarding a jet aircraft. even some very fast cars can exceed it.

i think he knows about the structure of graphite. anyway, the electrons can only freely move around parallel to the plane of the crystal structure. if you have a single crystal it will conduct fine in two dimensions but in the third it will not conduct. in an electrode there are millions(okay, several orders of magnitude more but you get the picture) of interlocking crystals and the aren't all aligned so you get conduction in any direction as there will always be a pathway.

it sounds to me like you are saying that the blackhole should behave much the same as an object without an event horizon like a neutron star. also, the only evidence you have presented for a 'solid' black hole is the antiquated term 'frozen star' which has been discredited for decades.
-
yes the mass is compacted within the event horizon(the extent of distribution within is obviously unknown, may be zero) but this does not mean that stuff will bounce off of the event horizon. he also doesn't state that it is solid, he just states that it is dense. he also says nearby objects cannot escape its pull. specifically, once an object crosses the event horizon it isn't coming back out. so lets look at the blackhole impacting earth scenario. black hole hits surface, the matter contacting the event horizon gets pulled beyond it. according to the rest of the earth, this matter has ceased to exist(except for the gravitational attraction). the black hole continues in a similar manner till it gets to the other side. the black hole will also pull in matter from the sides of the tunnel it creates(it does have a strong gravitational field after all). again once this matter crosses the event horizon it can no longer bounce back and repel the rest of the incoming material. now, if we look at the case of something without an event horizon, the object strikes the surface and moves the matter AWAY from it and out of its way to the side causing cratering and massive momentum transfer. blackholes are incapable of imparting momentum by this mechanism.
-
can you show me any reliable sources that state blackholes are solid objects?
-
no, thats not how black holes work. anything that passes the event horizon gets sucked in. matter does not bounce off it. the only way it interacts with the earth is via the attractive force of gravity.
-
the thing is though, thing other than black holes tend to collide, the blackhole will absorb everything directly infront of it and some stuff to the side but it will still exit with pretty much the same velocity as it exited as the force never gets distributed through out the bulk of earth. Mooey, the even horizon would become length contracted i think, as for whats inside it, well we don't really know.
-
even if it was a solar mass blackhole it would only leave a small(compared with the rest of the planet) hole through the planet.

there is a reason it is called length CONTRACTION

The Technological Singularity: all but inevitable?
insane_alien replied to dr.syntax's topic in Computer Science
guess what einstein was wrong about quantum mechanics. this is an arguement from authority fallacy here. einstein didn't like quantum mechanics, he spent the latter years of his life trying to disprove it. he failed to disprove it. now we have billions of devices operating on the principles of quantum mechanics. quantum mechanics exists and people understand it(sure the field is so massive that no one person can understand it all at the same time but you don't expect anybody to know everything do you) -
Problem with multi posting merging
insane_alien replied to dr.syntax's topic in Suggestions, Comments and Support
post only get merged when a user makes multiple consecutive posts. the only difference it makes is that the thread is slightly shorter in length as it isn't required to render so many message boxes. this has been a feature of the forums since before you arrived and was implemented for a very good reason, multiple consecutive postings are annoying and disrupt thread flow. it isn't hard to post a reply in the one post. you should try it sometime. -
you're pulling 2-g's until your feet leave the grounf then you'd be pulling zero. it works on an absolute basis.

Why is there no forum for (insert field here)?
insane_alien replied to Sayonara's topic in Suggestions, Comments and Support
there isn't enough demand for it. we get maybe 10 threads a year on the subject, not really worth giving it its own subforum. -
there are similar wind systems on earth, google trade winds. although if you factor in the planets rotation, they are all moving in the one direction just some are moving slower than others. for them to be moving opposite to roatational velocity then the winds would have to be going some 40000km/h which they're not.

let me elaborate for you. you are trying to get the answer to the N=NP problem which has stumped everyone for decades. there are MANY cash prizes also offered for anyone who can achieve a solution as it would allow large advances in computing(potentially). you were obviously planning to get someone to send you the answer and then you take the credit and maybe send a small percentage of the prize money back. now, the major flaw with this is that the people most capable of solving the problem already know that many institutions are offering a reward for the solution to this problem. the also know that international recognition as the greatest mathematician of all time would also result. a little analogy for the situation. i have a lottery ticket, it has the winning numbers and i've hit the $1million jackpot. you approach me and offer to buy the ticket for $250,000 in the hopes i haven't realised i've won the lottery. but as i play the lottery, i was watching the draw live so i know whether i've won or not. if i sold you the ticket i'd have to be pretty damn dumb.

Or they could submit it here and get $1million not to mention world wide fame(among mathematicians at least). http://www.claymath.org/millennium/ there is a reason that prize is unclaimed, nobody yet knows the answer even though many many mathematicians are working on it.
