insane_alien replied to dr.syntax's topic in Speculations
thats your opinion. it does not change any of the facts. -
If Kinetic friction is a constant can I accelerate forever?
insane_alien replied to scilearner's topic in Physics
ignoring air resistance, relativity and all that, then yes. -

yes, she's been eliminating juice for years. -
the mods can look it up if there is a claim of abuse. they'll only bother if it is clear that the post in question is in no way deserving of negative rep. ie. if you claim abuse of negative rep when the post in question is a 1000 word long post entirely composed of expletives then they won't investigate. if the post is a logical, well thought out arguement against or for a point then they will investigate.

yes it happens, i don't know if anyone has bothered to do much checking. we know it happens to earth(otherwise GPS would be less accurate than a sextant) and we test it out and detect it every second of every day.

Cancer jab to stop Cervical Cancer Type 16 & 18
insane_alien replied to AlexTehManiac's topic in Microbiology and Immunology
yeah, so it turns out this girl actually died of an undiagnosed tumour on her heart and lungs and not the vaccine. http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/2009/10/01/cervical-jab-teenager-died-from-tumour-in-chest-coroner-reveals-86908-21714553/ no need to panic. -
flash writes slower than it reads true, but this is stil lan order of magnitude greater than the read speeds of a fast hard drive. the big clue to flash drives being accepted soon is they are starting to see use in data centers. so 2-3 years and they'll be common for consumers.

A Question About the Mechanics of Cooling a Mid-engine car
insane_alien replied to LeePeyton's topic in Engineering
yes, the fans likely won't become a net loss rather than a net benefit until you get up to very high speeds. the 850CFM assumes the air at the intake is staionary and if you're going 50mph then this is definitely not stationary. the biggest benefit is if you are moving slowly(or not at all) the fans will be able to maintain better cooling. -
So in the second semester of this year at uni i'll either be on an industrial placement or a research project. i'm hoping(and expecting) that i'll get an industrial placement. one of the two options i selected, i commute to from home. the other is in newcastle upon tyne(what the hell is it with the english and these weird names). so, anyone know what its like down there? only time i ever see it mentioned is when there's been a spate of murders or something.

you have negative rep(as indicated by the red card) which means you cannot influence someones reputation. and rep power also depends on the length of time you have been a member.

well, you can make massive coil in you'r loft to get energy from radiowaves. only provides usable amounts of power if you live really close to a powerful radio antenna though. and they'll notice and beable to track you down and then prosecute you. free energy doesn't exist. best you can do is breakeven. but thats impossible too.

klay said 'where' as in the post that recieved the reputation, not 'who'

new demo idea. Brainstormers needed.
insane_alien replied to hermanntrude's topic in Applied Chemistry
yes, they are incredibly unstable. they spontaneously combust on exposre to air. but they are able to bubble up through water quite easily. long term storage is probably impossible, i tried it but it only lasted a week or two. i'm not sure what the largest silicon analogue is but it ain't a big one. -
someones been watching too much crap Sci-Fi

insane_alien replied to forufes's topic in Suggestions, Comments and Support
you need 50 posts. stops people just coming by to spam about politics. -
repeated offtopic spamming will get you banned. so no, you won't post about it as often as you care to. primal therapy has bog all to do with the topic. and also, for someone named 'dr. syntax' you seem to be completely unaware of the concept of a paragraph.

meltdowns aren't so big of an issue now. infact, long before the reactor core gets hot enough to melt, the thermal expansion and changes to the moderator cause it to go subcritical and the rate of reaction slows down enough so it can't actually get hot enough. and even if you do force a meltdown, there is sufficient containment structure to prevent it getting out., also, the molten matterial tends to spread out a bit and form a puddle(fair enough its a puddle of excruciating death) that isn't an optimal shape to keep the chain reaction going. the waste however is a serious problem. and we have the solution to it, it is just that nobody has allowed anyone to actually implement it. the big hole in stable ground stuff works. infact, there is a whole mess of naturally formed nuclear waste buried in the oklo natural reactor and no giant mutated insectoids have appeared there. and anyway, such a waste dump would not be permanent. we have plans for a way to both extract energy from the wast and render it safe at the same time using neutrons from a fusion reactor. so it only really needs to be down there a century or so.

is there anything you wished to discuss or did you just sign up to advertise your website? also, fossil fuels are still used not because of a lack of awareness of the negative consequences but because they are cheap. ridiculously cheap compared to many of the renewable sources. solar in particular. it is only recently that prices for renewable generation has got within the feasible range.

Cancer jab to stop Cervical Cancer Type 16 & 18
insane_alien replied to AlexTehManiac's topic in Microbiology and Immunology
well, hundreds of thousands(if not millions) of people have had it and not died or experienced significant sideeffects which makes me think there was a complicating factor in that case. it is safe, you are more likely to die just sitting on your couch than from it. -

in a cacuum and in a box are different yes, but they are not mutually exclusive. -
by terrestrial he means the ones transmitted to an antenna rather than through a cable or sattelite dish. although with the advent of freeview this situation has changed and there are more than 5 but many people still only have the five terrestrial channels (BBC1, BBC2, ITV/STV, Channel4, Five)
