  1. The smelly culprit is sulphur-based and that, apparently, forms an acid with water, which reacts with some component in the metal bar. My guess is iron into its sulphate.
  2. With any luck, with a new administration, we'll find out just how much they tried to interfere with those career admins that supplied information based on objectivity.
  3. The increasingly negative attitude to vaccines in general is more evidence of a short societal memory that can only compound the problem.
  4. Right. Gotcha. Yes, we are in an emerging age of i(mis)nformation wars, which a new president can't change much. The main social technology groups are going to get a lot of scrutiny in an attempt to manage it.
  5. Quite the contrary. Do we need to repeat what we've been saying for the last 4 years?
  6. If he wins, I propose we ban discussion here on US politics until November 2024,
  7. I looked into this some time ago and the way to go seems to be to put a directional antenna outside in the line of the transmitter,
  8. Yeah, don't give it the oxygen of exposure.
  9. Everyone still needs mobile airfields. I read recently that they will have to be further away from ground-launched anti-ship missiles now though. This is becoming an issue in the S. China sea.
  10. That''s not a material object and you can't sell it.
  11. However hard something is to make, it is still what it is. I think synthetic vs natural diamonds illustrates this. People in this instance place more value on the natural diamonds, even though synthetics have less inclusions (flaws). It's an inarguable subject... purely subjective.
  12. A perfect replica still expresses the concept of the artist, which is the real thing of value, in my opinion... the information he wishes to impart. The value of such things like provenance are emotional intangibles.
  13. LOL
  14. Trust you to bring Einstein into it.
  15. Oil needs to at least be aerosolized for it to ignite under pressure, doesn't it? Gasoline will autoignite at 234psi, apparently.
  16. The 'observable universe' is an observer-dependent limitation centred around where they are located. Why should things be different outside of that field of view?
  17. Thanks. I'm out of my depth now.
  18. Is there any path where some of those combined virtual states don't annihilate and can become stable, measurable quanta? It must have happened because... here we are.
  19. Would it be feasible to say that the pre-BB the universe was in a sub-quantum state and therefore not measurable, so essentially, nothing measurable existed then. What I'm suggesting is that sub-quantum is the nearest thing to nothing that can exist because virtual particles only exist briefly in combination.
  20. "Not available in your country". :(
  21. Given that any typical sexual relationship will fail with some degree of lasting animosity, the consequences of such actions in a familial situation would be catastrophic for the wider family. I think that is ample reason for it to be taboo.
  22. CharonY has more than enough knowledge for your topic.
  23. Where are your friend's citations?
  24. As we've said before dictionaries record, not dictate, contempoary usage. Does 'gay' mean now, in common usage, what it meant when we were young? I certainly remember older folks at the time using it in a now-archaic sense. My point being that pedantry is pointless when language is constantly evolving.
