  1. You might find this BBC article interesting on the way Europe is starting to deal with Russia:
  2. I was just thinking the same. Not long ago read about 2 rifles and a couple pairs of boots being found in an African game reserve... 2 ivory poachers became lunch for a pride of lions that sneaked up on them, it was suspected. It was not regarded as tragic.
  3. She has been given that courtesy and asked to present her case to the panel.
  4. I do not think there is any ambiguity. She even says she believes Ford. Hirono is expecting the men to as well. It's ridiculous.
  5. Her message seemed unequivocal to me, which was to believe Ford purely on her testimony.
  6. Race is a social construct based on colour differences and that doesn't directly correlate with specific abilities in each colour group; unless one exercises some cognitive bias. Race is a nebulous concept, especially when you think of the increasing integration between all the different ethnicities. I wonder if a racist will magically appear here now, as they often do with this subject.
  7. Going to get some.
  8. It's probably that they are over represented in that sport because they don't have as many opportunities to progress in other areas of western society.
  9. Did you lose your other thread on this?
  10. You are looking at the wrong statistic. Republicans won more than half the seats: 306 Republican to 232 Dems. It should be based on individual votes but isn't, and I think that''s what MigL means.
  11. Science teacher in high school, if you get the necessary teaching qualifications.
  12. Yes, US politics is very ugly at this time, and internationally too.
  13. Haven't they heard enough of those two?
  14. Oui.
  15. I asked this once and was asked "Does it matter?". Two photons with the same frequency are the same. The electron absorbs the photon, and because it's the 'wrong' energy, emits it back out again in exactly the same form. If it was the 'right' energy, it would be absorbed and you would see black. There will be no reflection.
  16. Essentially yes, the reflected photon that enters your lens has the same properties as the photon that hit the stone.
  17. Can you rephrase that? There's no photoelectric effect when you view an image; The photon is absorbed and immediately reflected back at you, or the ones incident to your eyes.
  18. I think we should sit on the fence until we know with further dialogue.
  19. Photons have energy and they can be absorbed by an electron, if it has the right frequency. This absorption causes the electron to become energetic and that can create a current in a digital system, or cause a film emulsion to deposit the metal, which makes your negative or slide image in one spot of it.
  20. If something can be measured it is physical; it doesn't have to have mass to qualify. To put it another way: if something can be related to physics, it's physical. Photons are physical. The notion of 'physical' in the scale of our everyday experience is related to things we can sense through touch and have some kind of solidity but when you zoom in far enough everything is just fields and, at that small scale, the idea we call "solid" is actually just repulsion between sets of these fields, like magnets, which actually have no sense of substance we can directly relate to.
  21. Picking upon your initial response. Is it the fault of the OP, given that they are in their formative years, to present such a view - and question it - or are they unwitting victims of 'intentional cultural programming'?
  22. OK. Cheers.
