  1. So, should England play to lose against Belgium, so they don't meet Germany or Brazil just yet?
  2. As I said earlier: The situation is unknown but needs to be known.
  3. What about overall health. No one said it's a mortal illness.
  4. Do we know their health status due to lack of it? All we can say is that they are alive OK.
  5. The sun's not on a light-switch. There are such things as cloudy days and very short days in northern lattitudes. From about October to April in the UK, there is insufficient sunlight for adequate vitamin D production, even if every day was cloudless. The further north, the worse it gets.
  6. One is not writing just for contemporary readers but those in the future as well: forums are repositories.
  7. I forgot about ricketts. that causes deformities of the long bones in particular. This is a childhood condition. that would have an effect on fecundity.
  8. It most likely would have kicked-in in middle age with a generally weaker skeleton, which probably affected their strength/usefulness/longevity in pre-modern times. Modern medicine and relative affluence mitigates it now in first world societies with mobility devices and social care.
  9. At the least, they can be part of the NSA mass surveillance apparatus, by design or in ignorance.
  10. If the distribution is isotropic and homogenous, and the galaxies are moving in random directions as an ensemble, how might there be a centre of mass?
  11. "Hi Alexa". I know at this point in my life I'm becoming a Luddite. Over my dead body am I having listening and watching devices in my home just because I can't be bothered to do some things I've been doing all my life.. There's enough of them out in the UK streets atop traffic lights and elsewhere.
  12. That's enlightening. I never thought of it that way. So, the US has got a significant problem whereby the governance and media reflects the whims of those that can afford it.
  13. Maths describes the answer, It is not the source of the answer itself. Apparently, Einstein made that mistake later in life; thinking that the answer was in the maths. One can go too far the other way from neglecting intuition, imagination etc.
  14. It's also called Atom Land, apparently. https://www.amazon.com/Atom-Land-Through-Impossibly-Particle/dp/1615193731
  15. In the long term, one might fair better over the other statistically but I don't know if it would be really significant at this point in human history. I think you'll get a better answer if CharonY sees this thread
  16. UK health authorities are only just becoming aware of the implications of vitamin D deficiency in northern lattitudes in general but I imagine in time, if they are not now, will target people of colour in particular eventually. White people may need supplementation for half the year and probably black people may need all the time here. I think there will probably be more official publicity on this in time.
  17. Actually, dark skin has problems with D deficiency in northern lattitudes from less sun and a tendency towards lactose intolerance which compounds the problem.
  18. This squad don't have the weight of great expectations on them, so maybe they can just focus on playing.
  19. Yeah, I watched one just now and it was pathetic, I like this headline: "Dive, score, cry: Neymar earns rave reviews for acting masterclass in Brazil's win over Costa Rica" It's sad when really good footballers stoop this low.
  20. He's doing the old-version of Ronaldo proud then... he always looked like he was ready to fall over if someone even thought of tackling him.
  21. I think there''s usually a fair amount of psychology going on between the famous and not-so-famous teams in big tournaments. The latter can feel intimidated by these players worth many millions each, when, at the end of the day, they are just footballers like them with all the human frailties. Money puts an aura around rich people and it's BS really. This tournament seems to be highlighting that for some reason. Only Ronaldo's looking like a Pele or Maradona,, so far.
  22. What's social healthcare got to do with growth? That side can only lose in the face of profiteering.
  23. Can you elaborate on the bolded bit?
