  1. This is consistent with our monarch as well... she's technically above the law.
  2. Space is volume. Volume does not exist by itself because it is a property of things. It should be easy to see that space isn't a thing of itself. i think, probably, a volume of virtual particles is the emptiest you can get.
  3. I'm only a layman but: as organisms get older, the fidelity of replications goes down and the probability of mutations increases anyway. Cloned offspring are the same age as their parents and carry the same state of senescence as the parents. The act of cloning adds its own stresses, producing even more mutations. Sexual reproduction resets the clock, so to speak, and any flaws in the offspring genes will also, with greater likelihood, be cancelled out at fertilisation.
  4. Probably availability, or lack thereof, of certain nutrients to the relevant cells in the body.
  5. With my link and Strange's, you'll be quite enlightened... they clear the mud quite a bit.
  6. You might find this lecture by Sean Carroll interesting. It's an hour or so long but well worth your while. He ventures at some later point into the future or physics which can leave at that point if you wish.
  7. We are not demonizing all the gun owners. You've been in this conversation long enough to realise we are talking about a certain faction of gun owners. It's like they've lost an oxygen tank and they'll die without it.
  8. I think a scene in an Evil Roy Slade film highlights it really well, when a woman he loves asks him to remove all his weapons - of which there are many - and he turns into a gibbering wreck as lets go of each one. Gun rights advocates probably feel emasculated at the thought of not having guns available to them on hand.
  9. I think the problem you've got with securing a school is probably not unlike securing an airliner; think Germanwings plane crash. The problem could appear from the inside as much as the outside. It's a tough cookie.
  10. People can do what they like there with them. There is insufficient regulation and oversight. You don't see this sort of stuff elsewhere: Church officials hold their AR-15-style rifles while people attend a blessing ceremony with their AR-15-style rifles at the Sanctuary Church in Newfoundland, Pennsylvania. Many celebrants wore crowns - some made of bullets - while church officials. https://www.reuters.com/news/picture/blessing-the-ar-15-idUSRTX4ZCOJ
  11. Is this not a utilisation of antimatter?
  12. The medication only confirms that they were mentally ill.
  13. From what I've read on it, regarding psychiatric drugs, the suicidal ideation is usually a temporary state whilst a patient adjusts to a drug in the early stages and they'll be monitored anyway with their healthcare professionals mindful of it.
  14. Yeah. Cheers. Charge is an intrinsic property.
  15. Am I conflating charge with magnetic moment; it's moving charge that creates it? I've forgotten what I was thinking at the time now.
  16. I started a psychology course, with a view to doing a degree, and gave up not long after learning about Maslow's hierarchy. For me, psychology needs to have a neuroscientific foundation. Biopsychology is much better grounded.
  17. A little known fact I've just learnt is that the temperature difference between snow falling and cold rain is 0.1oC.
  18. Hypothetically, say there was a foreign billionaire interested in thwarting the efforts regarding the CDC research, would they be allowed to fund the organisation in those areas the republican administration and NRA are trying to supress?
  19. It allows some room for adjusting an initially incompatible attitude without consequence, if they care.
  20. I do it often, possibly more than for other reasons. I think crediting with some number is the best compromise. If someone lets it go into the negative then they probably don't care, and nor should we.
  21. This is the problem with a positive-only system. Is it possible to give newcomers an initial credit of so many points that they can lose before going negative??
  22. Has the forum ever had a system with no negative points? If so, how was it then? This will be before 2009, when I joined.
  23. Empathy and charity may ultimately bring about our downfall but we can go down with peace of mind. Can you cut out the sneering wordage? It's not necessary. Thanks.
  24. But if we do, do these things then they've got the right idea how we like to discuss things.
