  1. It's a reactivation of the chickenpox virus.
  2. It's been prepared and released by NASA for the internet: Space Settlements: A Design Study (Table of contents)
  3. I bet the military guys that keep their eyes on the nuclear trigger have quietly put in a new layer of idiot-proofing. "President Trump was reported to have had a funny turn earlier today and is resting in a mental health facility... and for our next news item..."
  4. The fuel is rather dangerous.
  5. Conquest of Paradise - Vangelis
  6. The daily output of one of those rigs would be 1500 gallons a day or 150 000 gallons in the growing season of a 100 days in length. This is assuming good day conditions and basically using the same resources as present agriculture. Is it worth it? Sugar beet is the highest yielding crop.
  7. No it's not. It is detectable to a difference of 20cm.
  8. Yes, when you observe something from a different frame of reference to that which is being observed.
  9. No. Things happen i.e. time progresses, whether we know it or not.
  10. I'm only a novice like you but a few years up the road. All I can say is just accept what you've been told about this and eventually you'll get used to it. You are trying to absorb a lot of things at once and not just about relativity itself but the terminology and the way scientists think. Eventually, it will slowly come together. When you see someone like Mordred writing the way he does, that's more than twenty years of thinking about science and methodically unpicking what it means. You won't get your head around relativity in a few posts.
  11. OK. Every time the clock counts one second, the clock is one second older. How is that different from an aging body. The clock will wear and ultimately stop, just like an aging body.
  12. Can you dumb this bit down? Is there a verbal way to describe it?
  13. It's protectionist market in the US anyway. The idea that it runs on free market forces is a joke. Look at the pharmaceutical industry. Can the government medical agencies negotiate drug prices? No. You guys actually pay more for your US made drugs than we do. Our NHS is allowed to negotiate, as are other countries. Big Corps focuses on lobbying and buying politicians rather than reacting to the market.
  14. OK. i was just wondering if that was a possible explanation for the asymmetry.
  15. Can we say that the accelerating twin is in a stronger gravitational field, or equivalently?
  16. In both scenarios they illustrate the difference in elapsed time between different frames. The frame you measure from is always stationary (or inertial), as long as it's a constant rate of motion.
  17. What you are probably not realising is that they both have clocks and the time on the returning twin's clock will be earlier than the Earthbound twin's when they meet again. This is a real effect and has been measured. Check out the Hafele -Keating experiment. The only difference is that the differences are large in that twin scenario because the speeds are relativistic whereas in that H-K experiment, the difference of the results is micoseconds. using nanosecond-accuracy clocks.
  18. What about this professional insulated pizza delivery bag to put the containers in. https://thermalbags.com
  19. Maybe they require another layer of oversight.
  20. The interior would be better white or mirror-like metal because it's more reflective whereas black is more absorptive. If it's a single-layer container then two or three layers with air gaps in between would be better. The containers want to be pre-warmed prior to putting the food in so that the heat within the food is not used to warm it up initially; that's like pouring hot water into a cold cup.
  21. That about sums it up. We're arguing against fundamentalists.
  22. Yes, it's government-funded research that does the majority of the time consuming, wasteful dirty-work in innovation and invention then commerce milks it. The tax payer pays twice. Yep. I read in Reuters the other day that there is over a trillion dollars squirreled away by American entities abroad. Guess where the excess money from 'trickle-down economics is going to go.
  23. Why does it have to be a dichomitistic argument? There are areas of society that are not conducive to capitalism and the same with socialism.
  24. "Share it fairly but don't take a slice of my pie"
