  1. No problem. Science is an oasis in a sea of bullshit.
  2. Here's a WHO release for health workers:
  3. i tried Linux a few times but I don't want to learn to assemble a car before I get to drive it. Some people just want to get things done, not f..ck about under bonnet.
  4. I can't.
  5. Chips, salt and vinegar; the perfect menage a trois
  6. But the point I'm trying make is, you wouldn't bat an eyelid if a Jamaican-born Rastafarian cut his dreads to a No. 2 and started learning to speak with a cut-glass English accent.I know what you mean though, a brother and sister of mine have removed their accent and act in a manner that belie their more modest upbringing; social chameleons. Your cousin has just gone that extra mile and done a full cultural transplant.
  7. Yes, it looks that way. About a quarter of the UK is obese, so we aren't exactly a healthy nation. It's a Pan-Western problem and not uniquely American .
  8. Right. Heinz, which is common here is probably the sweetest, relatively, but still has a fairly distinct tang. That's American isn't It? Maybe your version is different in sweetness. Most of the others are more tart. I like the tart, cheek-pulling stuff on my chips. I even sprinkle vinegar with it.
  9. But it's ok for people from other countries to attempt to emulate a stereotypical English person, for example. Are they misleading too? In the case of that woman it's a new phenomenon, so it seems 'wrong'. I think it's a sign that that we Westerners are becoming more fluid culturally.
  10. Is it more sweet than sharp, your ketchup?
  11. Unfortunately, it's a huge industry and practice. I think it's great to see white people sincerely emulating practices and visual looks that were the preserve of other cultures that were originally or historically seen as lower in the social order. That's a sure sign of emerging equality for those previously oppressed groups
  12. Thank you. There is usually some grain of truth in a myth or folklore and it quite often helps to consider the prevailing conditions when such myths may have originated.
  13. I think it is rather presumptuous of people to talk about quantum effects in consciousness, especially non-physicists. It's a case of quantum woo, I suspect.
  14. I think you need to use a hosts file, containing a list of all the undesirable sites, which actually stops the content downloading. Adblockers AFAIK are cosemetic and do the job in situ.
  15. The scoring system of his examining body was the opposite of what was common, so it looked like he was a bit thick. He was, in fact, a top student in science and maths, achieving the highest grades.
  16. The myth may have stemmed from pre-street lamp days, when there was little or zero ambient night light, and hence less activity from people. On full moon nights there may have been more activity because people could see better and, hence, more trouble may have occurred.

    Lego

I've built a few legos for my nephew who was being bought sets like that one you mentioned at about 3-4 years old by Mummy and Daddy and, of course, Uncle had to spend all hours building them. It's impressive the detail in some of them though. Some of these sets were 100 quid each.
  18. Basically, they want crap card players that don't know it inside out. Casinos are a scam.
  19. How do they know you are counting? Because you are winning more than expected?
  20. The problem is quite simple: there isn't enough mass. Dark matter is the placeholder name for that missing mass. People like you are just going to have to wait until they figure out what the 'dark' bit is.
  21. Is card counting just remembering what cards have already been used?
  22. The best way way to alleviate repression is to verbalise it with someone so that you can get feedback and you don't feel alone with it. Internalising the violence in the form of like thoughts or even expressing it outwardly solves very little in the long run... the relief is temporary at best. It needs to be articulated to another person . That puts problems in a more objective light. Even if the listener can provide no insight, hearing yourself speak makes your thoughts more objective, instead of just feeling emotions running amok.
  23. Wow! 6 sugars in your tea by any chance and sugar mines in your cereal?
  24. It's you freaking out at the thought we aren't more than just wet machines... you want us to be more than that. Just because we don't know the whole process yet doesn't mean it's the wrong road to go down. It's consistent with and extensible from known science; there's no isolated islands of thought being made in the middle of nowhere.
