  1. Time is defined in Relativity as a function with space, aka spacetime, so it doesn't need anything to move.
  2. Given that the displacement tank level is above the main tank it probably acts as a safety regulator for the pressure inside and should the gas outlet pipe be turned off or blocked the build up of gas will push the slurry level down and allow the gas to escape through the outlet pipe and lift the loose cover.slightly to escape; kind of a crude one-way valve.
  3. But acquiring subject-specific vocabulary is an essential part of any technical subject. Creative ability is not much use without intimately understanding the language of interest, especially in science.
  4. Right. That's handy to know.
  5. You don't fancy a cognitive seizure?
  6. Right.
  7. The main reason for that is reading material that is too advanced for ones current ability. One should find starting material on a level that matches; you can't run before you can walk. It's easy not to realise this though. As time passes and one becomes familiar with the terminology, it starts falling into place and you can then start handling more intense, terminology-laden articles. Maths is no different. It's a language, just with different symbols, and you have to learn that language before you can understand it to use it. You can't write a letter until you know your alphabet, words and how they string together; it's the same with maths and science.
  8. Based on the observable universe being isotropic and homogenous, we assume the rest evolves the same though, do we not?
  9. Would it not work if you take a test litre sample of water, add the acid until neutrality is reached, note the amount of acid then multiply that by the volume of water to be treated - does it work that way? I assume the main volume of water might be known or fixed within reasonable limits before treating; could the tank/reservoir water level be calibrated to a mark that denotes a known volume?
  10. Yes, along with the other methods. In sedimentary layers and rocks sourced from those layers. Not sure what you mean with this question.
  11. They extrapolate evolution from fossils; their similarities and differences between each other and to modern organisms and where they lie in the geological strata - by knowing the age range of a stratified layer they can know when those organisms were around and whether they were water-borne or land-borne, amongst other things. The oldest are at the lowest layers. The story is also told in DNA where the relationships between organisms, or not, can be discerned, http://necsi.edu/projects/evolution/evidence/evidence_intro.html
  12. This is going to be the new 'normal' for the next four years.
  13. But how many were pay-per-view?
  14. Not a good start Xingha, he's asking for clarity.
  15. James Lovelock said once that what the Earth has been doing for billions years we'll have to do ourselves eventually if we ignore the problem; regulate the atmosphere to maintain homeostasis.
  16. Nothing new there then. Once a liar...
  17. I I read yesterday - BBC site I think - that he unloaded his investment portfolio in June. He saw that one coming.
  18. Given people's propensity for way out tattoos I think there will be takers.
  19. Culpable negligence - recklessly acting without reasonable caution and putting another person at risk of injury or death (or failing to do something with the same consequences).
  20. You're killing the weeds... once you've got through the snow.
  21. Great minds think alike. You can get 3-head burners for weed clearing.
  22. I agreed.
  23. Melanin is produced by cells called melanocytes. In eyes, it will make them some shade of brown, if abundant, and less will produce blue, grey or green In skin it will make a person darker. Complete absence in both cases will produce a person with albinism; very white skin and eyes can be pink because the blood vessels show through the iris but otherwise very pale blue.
