  1. The problem with this is nothing well get done or good plans/policies will be compromised too much. I prefer the idea of a voted executive political group being able to implement their policy as they intend it to be executed. I want to see a clear five year plan not a mish-mash of opposing ideas from different groups being implemented.
  2. People who think like that are likely ignorant of the realities of those they purport to know.
  3. Yeah, I thought it would be something like that..Maybe, I'm assuming it was an 'average' reading as opposed to a median one. Thanks anyway. I was just curious.
  4. It's a fibroscan liver stiffness result. The 10 samples would need to be + or - 1 or 2 within each other to be a valid test series I think, otherwise it would have been done again. I just wondered what the IQR of 0.6 meant WRT to this.
  5. Ten samples are taken and an average reading of 6.1 resulted. The IQR was 0.6. Does this mean the sample readings were pretty close in range about the mean?
  6. Yes. Originally, the server was in the US. It looks like admin didn't click that this needed changing as well.
  7. . Like Acme says: he can hear therefore his inner ear is OK. Concerning critical systems, such as breathing regulation, tthe body has system redundancy i.e. backup systems in the event of failure. It is just that in very young babies it is being speculated in your link, with respect to possible causes of SIDS, that this redundancy is not yet developed. This is a summary of what I've already said and I cannot add any more.
  8. See a doctor. I've no wish to be pushed out of my depth on medical stuff.
  9. There are chemoreceptors in the aorta.and somewhere else, which name escapes me atm.. As Acme has just prompted; see a doctor. It's not our place to reassure you. as you clearly have doubts.
  10. Not in a more mature human. Other receptors later develop in other sites in major blood vessels, like the aorta. The vulnerable period is before these two areas have developed. Your brother is way passed this stage.
  11. What's with the attitude? Does every conversation have to be a bad-tempered battle?

It seems it can be both. Found this thread: https://www.quora.com/Tap-Water/What-is-the-cause-of-the-black-deposit-in-kettles

Right. I'm playing "Twenty Questions" with you trying to help you fathom it. That avenue's off then.

No, they aren't but they are starchy and can stubbornly cling to the pan in a virtually invisible film. When you tip the boiling water out the heat in the pan dries the starch hard. When you think about it, starch used be used as a glue. Needs to be treated the same as oil residues although it can be more stubborn. It could be carbonising starch particles.

Is there any possibility it's carbonised/carbonising oil resides from past cooking sessions? Grease films - from not rinsing in very hot water after normal washing - are invisible until you heat them again and may turn black.

Is it a pressure cooker; does it have a lid with a valve in the middle? Do you just boil water in it; nothing else goes in the pan?

Can you point to picture of what your steamer looks like? Acmes' suggestion is the way to go really. If the facility is automatic, something may be amiss that end.
  18. Checking out flatulence may give you some direction.
  19. I think the real measure of potential gender bias is not relative pay but the presence, or absence of, gender-influenced selection.bias
  20. When people single-handedly argue against several lines of evidence from different people - and it happens too often - I always think of Galileo and his persecution. They are showing signs of a Galileo Complex. I just happened to be thinking of Shakespeare as well.
  21. O Galileo, Galileo! Wherefore art thou Galileo? :
  22. Is the picture still same when hourly rates and job description are compared within the the same organisation? I suspect part of the picture is that many women are taking up the more poorly paid positions that are offered in more poorly paying firms..
  23. So, if massive object A passes through xyz at t=1 and massive object B passes through xyz at t=2, they will collide?
