Google search rating across different internet browsers

You could get different results with the same browser on different computers. It's not the browser, it's you the user that defines the results. -
2016 US Presidential Race - Landslide or Laughing Stock?
StringJunky replied to iNow's topic in Politics
A national health service should be a pillar of any properly run society. Most people will need it at some point in their life and it will likely be very expensive when they do if they had to do it privately. I think it's good for the collective psyche to have such an institution where people don't have to worry about costs as well as any potentially life changing/ending medical problem. -

The results are personalised from data extracted from the cookies in each browser, the results of which will depend on what you've searched for with a particular browser in the past with it. -
What's new in physics (split from is Nobel suffocating science)
StringJunky replied to Chriss's topic in Physics
Yes, it's an emergent property of an ensemble of neural signals; Physics is too fundamental and low level to describe stuff like the mind. Like trying to describe flower arranging with maths; can be done but unecessarily tedious and long-winded. -
Anything that leaves a residue on your scalp and solely intended for cosmetic purposes is not going to be entirely risk-free. Even if there is no cfhemical effects from its components, they may hinder the scalps' natural processes by physically blocking the pores. Occassional use won't cause any real lasting problems as long as you wash it out at the end of the day. Chronic daily use causes hair and skin dehydration apparently.

Was this a miracle or a mistake?

I just laugh it off and say "I've forgotten, Alzheimer's must be setting in." We are not perfect automatons anyway so don't get hung about it. Rather than fruitlessly pursue that elusive word in mid-speech grab the first alternative that comes to mind. -

In that situation, I think it's best to forget about it for a bit. I think of our knowledge base like one big bookshelf and it takes your 'little librarian' a while to find what you want! -
Translated into American, yes.

I have a niece in Italy, who's English, and she says the Italians are very big spenders on stylish clothes; apparently it's a signficant chunk of their income.

My vocabulary let me down and I couldn't figure the right word at the time so I used 'usage'. 'Morphology' is spot-on. +1 -
Mayo is too boring for me and, besides, it's for posh people; salad cream or tomato sauce for me, thank you. And I want it ON my chips, not in a little puddle by the side.

A suit without a tie is like chips without tomato sauce.

That seems about right, apparently.

Will a person suffocate if their inner ears are destroyed?
StringJunky replied to LisaLiel's topic in Biology
That study is looking for possible causes of SIDS and I think it's speculating that, in the very, very young, the receptors that detect carbon dioxide levels are not yet developed in the areas where a more developed human performs this task. It suggests, at this period in development, that this task is largely performed by vestibular hairs in the inner ear until the main pathways are developed. From your link: Your brother is more developed than that so I don't think it applies to him. Consult a doctor if you still feel doubt. -
I must be getting old thinking like that.

It recently occurred to me that, although I want to see the licence fee abolished, that would be a significant loss to many people in the world for a relatively unbiased, advert-free news source with public service at it's core rather than the whims and mercenary desires of shareholders. I'm wobbling a bit now on that idea.

It's 89% Shia. 9% Sunni. IS is Sunni. Not very likely.

Questionist You mentioned earlier about light bending around a star. Here's a picture of the light of a galaxy 12 billion light years away, bending around another galaxy 4 billion light years away, that's in our line of sight. This phenomenon was predicted by General Relativity. It's called an Einstein Ring. http://phys.org/news/2015-04-alma-einstein-stunning-image-lensed.html

Looking in the comments, he says you can pick two from three: Special Relativity, FTL, Causality. Not that I do appreciate it fully, but this seems to be the crux of what must be understood: why all three together are incompatible.

I don't know where Reuters is in the news food chain but the BBC seems to use it as a source quite often. These are the two I use everyday. Reuters is quicker to get the world news and updates events a bit quicker if one is keen following some current event. I don't feel that either of them are pushing any particular agenda other than to present news in a reasonably impartial way. Opinions are always clearly tagged as such.
